Plate (offset printing)

If a default plate is assigned to an offset press:

Printer’s Plan automatically adds the default plate Service to the Item specs.

You may replace the default plate or add more than one plate type to the Item specs.

Printer’s Plan calculates the number of plates required based on:

o Number of sides, up, ink colors (from paper specs window)

o Printing Method, such as Work and Turn (from paper specs window)

o Colors/Pass property of press (from press setup)

In the specs window, you may not change the number of plates required.

Printer’s Plan uses the number of plates to calculate:

o Setup Time for the press

o Number of Setup Waste sheets

If no default plate is assigned to press:

Printer’s Plan does not add a plate Service to the Item specs.

You may use this option for digital printers that do not use plates.

Printer’s Plan uses the following fields to calculate Setup Time per plate:

1. Press Service Setup

2. Paper Service Setup (used with a Press that uses Paper Properties)

3. Difficulty Table of a Press

Printer’s Plan uses the following fields to calculate Setup Waste per plate:

1. Waste Table

2. Difficulty Table of a Press

3. Press setup: If Use following Waste Properties: option is selected in the Waste… field

Plate Category:

You must set up plate services in Plate category.

Printer’s Plan allows only one Plate category. If there’s already a Plate category in your setup, you will

not see this option in the ‘New Category’ window.

You may include the Plate category in the same department (folder) of your Offset Press category or in

another department.

You may set up as many Plate services in the Plate category as you wish.

A Typical Plate Service Setup:

About the “--- not used ---“Option:

If you select the --- not used --- option, Printer’s Plan will not add press setup time for this Plate.

If you do not want to add cost and price for this plate, select --- No Cost --- No Price --- in the Cost field.

Example of a condition when to use a “--- not used ---“plate:

Assume you are running a 2-sided job 1-up, one color each side. Printer’s Plan requires two plates for these

specifications. However, both sides of the sheet may be the same image, so you need only one plate. Replacing

one of the assigned plates with this plate allows you to meet both yours and Printer’s Plan’s requirements.

Select

Plates or

---not used---

Be sure the Category Type is Plate. This enables Printer’s Plan to ensure the job is assigned correct number of plates.
