ANIMATED FILMMAKINGOur Character Animation and AnimatedFilmmaking course has been world-recognisedfor its excellence in character animation and thehigh-level of professionalism of its students for40 years. This course allows students to masterboth traditional and digital animation techniques(2D and 3D) following professional methods in

animation studio conditions.The original aspect of our approach lies in ourability to enable our students to capture, fromfirst year, each step of film design and productionin order to progressively equip them with allthe skills expected to be able to work on a longfeature.

PHOTOGRAPHYOur reputed Photographic department has

dedicated itself for 50 years to train multi-skilledstudents in becoming professionals in imageacquisition as well as in photographic printingand editing for the illustration, publishing,industrial and journalism sectors. Our coursesenable students to acquire high-level creativeand technical skills, taught in conjunction withexperts from different practices to aid studentsin realising achievements of professional quality.Training is conducted in a variety of approachableand engaging formats:conventional lessons, conferences, core subjects

as well as workshops covering themes such aspublicity, food photography, fashion, beauty andarchitecture.

INTERACTIVE DESIGNAt the centre of the new technological challenges,our students learn to design new interactiveservices or products meeting social, urban,environmental, cultural requirements. They produce2D or 3D content or implement technologies

linked to the convergence of multimedia platforms,manage teams and steer complex projects. Theschool trains highly sought-after professionals,graphic designers and developers, who aim to meetthe needs of new communication practices in termsof design, of graphic interface design and newergonomic user interfaces.

VIDEO GAMEThe heart of branding is with the video gameindustry! Our Specialized Masters degree Interactive Digital Experiences , conceivedwith the CNAM/ENJMIN is the first of its kindin France. The strength of this programme isthat it prepares high-level engineers, graphicdesigners and IT specialists to become expertsin the design and creation of games formobiles, tablets, social networks, terminals andinstallations.

GRAPHIC INDUSTRIESFrom printed to web-based, our training

in Graphic Industries responds to the newchallenges of the digital revolution. GOBELINSis the only school to offer Post-16 professionalapprenticeships in Graphic Industries andpropose a path of studies from undergraduateto postgraduate level to master the whole of thegraphics process.

I entered GOBELINS more than 30 yearsago, well before globalization, and yet already

at the time, there were 6 different nationalitiesamongst the 12 students from our year!

Thanks to the GOBELINS/Calarts exchange programme I was very lucky to spend 6 months as studentand director of an end of studies film within the school created by Walt Disney, in Los Angeles! I was also

able to meet the recruiters of the majority of the American studios and was hired as training concept artist/character designer at Pixar. At the end of this training course, I got employed at Pixar Studios.

Upon completing his studies at GOBELINS,Pierre worked as an animator for several importantstudios in Europe, working on both feature fi lmsand TV series. In 2008, he joined DreamWorksAnimation Studio where he worked on Kung FuPanda. In 2009, he won the prestigious AnnieAward in Hollywood for the category CharacterAnimation in a Television Production or ShortForm. He was the character lead of the villainof Kung Fu Panda 2, and of North for Rise of theGuardians. He was nominated for an Annie Award in

the Category Best character animation in a featureproduction for both movies in 2011 and 2012. Heis a supervising animator since 2011. He is nowworking on Me and my Shadow.

SUMMERSCHOOLIn order to share its expertise in animation withan international audience, GOBELINS organiseseach year in Paris a two-week InternationalSummer School in Character Animation.

Mainly designed for professionals and advancedstudents in animation, entirely in English, itsaim is to enable participants from all aroundthe world to gain a better understanding of whatmakes for successful character animation.

The GOBELINS Summer School completely surpassed my expectations. The staff were absolutelyincredible.I was delighted to find that most of the content was completely new to me! Not only new, but exciting,practical and insightful.One of best things about the course was that by exposing us to a number of accomplished animators whohave very contradictory views on work-flow, it challenged us to reassess our own assumptions about how toanimate, and gave us new tools to help us find our own way of working. I highly recommend the GOBELINSSummer School to anyone who loves creating character animation, who is looking for inspiration, insight anda challenge!
