Suppose that you are a plant manager and you know that your budget has been padded by the

division manager. Further, suppose that the padding is common knowldge among the plant

managers, who support it because it increase their ability to achieve the budget and received

a bonus. What would you do?

A plant manager oversees all daily operations of a plant and othen often is in charge of

everything from production and manufacturing to making sure policies and procedures are

followed in all departments. Supervising and motivating staff members generally are major

parts of the job as well.

In addition to managing daily plant functions, the plant manager may be responsible

for creating and following a budget and preparing profit and loss projections. This requires

proficiency in math and skills in creating reports and spreadsheets utilizing commercially

produced and in-house software programs. The ability to interpret reports and statistics from

outside agencies is also an important skill needed by a plant manager. Eventhough the budget

has been padded by the division manager, as a plant manager, I should be responsibe to help

the company to become more successful and profitable, no tjust think of rewards and bonus

only.

It is my responsible to plan, organize and direct the manufacturing and maintenance

operations which ensure the most effective return on assets. Besides that, I will have initiative

plans and processes which minimize manufacturing costs through effective utilization of

manpower, equipment, facilities, materials, and capital. Assure attainment of business

objectives and productions schedules while insuring product standards that will exceed our

customers expectations.

Implement manufacturing strategies and action plans to ensure that the company will

achieve the budgeted profits and establish group and individual accountabilities throughout

assigned departments for problem solving and cost reduction, both on a permanent and ad-hoc

basis, depending on need. I will encourage use of new techniques and focus on fact based

problem solving and improve manpower utilization within existing departments and

processes.

I will schedule stability that allows for maximum return on efficiencies and manage

spending against budget and in relation to changes in production volume.

Assure that collective bargaining agreements are effectively administered and that employee

grievances are addressed in a timely fashion will be part of my responsible as a plant

manager. I will work to establish management practices throughout assigned areas which

include all employees positive involvement with opportunity for construction input and

action.
