Planning Your Holiday In Advance Will Make You Rich The headline is actually deceptive, it might not really make a person rich wealthy, but will definately help save you some cash :) In the last post I touched in brief on the topmost golden rule of traveling - Travel light. Furthermore, I requested you to go and visit money belt bearing in mind the first golden rule. Hope you did that and simplified your current list. The very first overseas trip I ever took with the family was while I was 14. The vacation destination was India and this was in the late 80s. Dad was an army colonel and mum had a small string of book shops. While mother and father started out planning for the journey almost Six months in advance, we read about the different places we would check out each day. The 2nd golden rule for vacation travel is you guessed it - Plan in Advance! My dad planned every thing with mum with his army precision, lists were created, responsibilities were allocated to me and my sister (who was elder by 3 years) 6 months prior to we were to journey. We made 3 checklists Common checklist - Where all the stuff that everybody would need and use was detailed (toothpaste, nail clippers etc) Emergency Checklist - Where prescribed medicines, emergency numbers etc were detailed Individual List - In which our own individual items that we would like to bring were listed (man! this list ended up being enormous!!!) And then there were the tasks checklist. My dad would do the flights, visa, permission for him to travel (he was serving then), Mum would take care of the doctor prescribed drugs, doctor visits, clothing, I and Emily were instructed to check out places we wanted to visit. All Emily wanted to do was find out snake charmers & princes (: )!!), me I desired to look at the Mount Everest & ride elephants. We had been so far removed from actuality (well considerably far!) The point I'm attempting to make here is, for anyone who is travelling international on a family vacation, plan as soon as possible. Write every little thing down in Two-Three checklists and then begin weeding things that are not required. I am sure you don't have to carry 5 different kinds of moisturiser. You need a sunscreen lotion and a moisturizing lotion. We were given only two bags; I had a duffel and a little backpack. Planning this early, resulted us in completing all of our travel requirements and bag buying at the time of sales. By doing this I guess we managed to save nearly 50% of what we would have paid for had we waited till the last second.
