Environmental Impact Assessment
Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is
“a process that identifies both the positive andnegative environmental effects of significantdevelopments prior to planning permissionbeing considered.
It aims to prevent, reduce or offset anyidentified significant adverse environmentaleffects of development proposals.”
The EIA process is a method of ensuring thatplanning decisions are made in the fullknowledge of the environmental effects andwith full engagement of statutory bodies, localinterest groups and members of the public.
The responsibility of completing an EIA lieswholly with the developer.
It is mandatory for a hospital in Jersey.
