A Message from Greg GicziPresident and GM, WNIT Public Television

Hello Avid WNIT Viewers/Donors —

Happy Holidays! This is our last WNIT Planner of 2017 and we certainly do have a lot of holidays to celebrate in the next few months, so I think a holiday greeting is appropriate.

November and December are months when people are typically more generous. As you open your hearts to family, friends and organizations you admire, please consider WNIT Public Television for a special year-end gift. We have many needs, large and small, but they all go to support your community-owned media organization dedicated to early childhood education, lifelong learning and community service. WNIT’s educationally inspired content is available free to all in our 10-county broadcast area. If this happens to be a year when you are considering a very large gift or planning your estate, please call me personally and let me suggest some exciting projects where you can make a significant community impact.

If you are unable to make a year-end gift, do the next best thing. Please bring WNIT a new donor/member or two. Because we are there 24/7, I believe most people take us for granted. Less than 5% of WNIT viewers support our service with a donation. Yet, nearly everyone watches some of our programming during the course of a month. Please encourage your friends that are avid viewers to help out. Sustaining memberships start at only $5 per month, which includes the WNIT Passport member benefit.

You will see for yourself, as you browse through this WNIT Planner, all the exciting local programming coming up in the next two months. It will include two Our Town specials. Stories of Benton Harbor will be featured Monday, November 27 at 8pm (repeated at 9:30pm), then we will go across the river and feature St. Joseph, MI, on Monday, December 4 at 8pm (repeats at 9:30pm). The Our Town series of programs are among the most popular local programs we produce.

Other programs you may want to highlight in the Planner include Anne of Green Gables: The Good Stars on Thanksgiving evening at 8pm, The Beatles: Eight Days a Week – the Touring Years premiering on Saturday, November 25 at 8pm, as well as numerous holiday musical specials in December.

Thank you for your viewership this past year and the financial support that came with it. For all the holidays we will be celebrating these next two months, all of us at WNIT wish you happy times. Blessings to you and your family as we close 2017 and welcome 2018.

Best wishes,

Greg Giczi President & General Manager

Our on-air membership campaigns remain the most effective way of encouraging viewers to join the WNIT family of supporters. WNIT has an exciting line-up of new programs, including ticket offers to some Michiana favorites! Be sure to join us and tell your family and friends why you think supporting WNIT is important.

It’s viewer-members like you who make a real difference to everyone in our community. Thank you for supporting WNIT!

End of Year Tax Planning & DonationsAs the year comes to a close, please consider making an additional investment in the future of WNIT – an investment in a remarkable brand of television that is here for everyone to enjoy. Individuals interested in this type of contribution should consult their tax or financial advisors for more information.

At this special time of year, all of us at WNIT wish you and your family a festive holiday season and a joyous new year. We look forward to serving you in 2018 and remain dedicated to bringing you the best that public television has to offer.

Donate Your Vehicle to WNIT!When you donate a vehicle to benefit WNIT, you actually turn your car into the programs you rely on and love. WNIT accepts any vehicle, running or not. Donate your car, truck, motorcycle or RV and your vehicle is towed free of charge. The donation is also eligible for a tax deduction. We work with our public television colleagues at Car Talk Vehicle Donation Services to ensure that your donation delivers the highest possible revenue to WNIT and that your experience is convenient, efficient and even fun. The Beatles: Eight Days a Week – The Touring YearsThe moment is February 9, 1964, at 8:12 p.m. EST. After a brief commercial break, four young men from Liverpool step onto the stage of The Ed Sullivan Show, changing culture forever. Seventy-three million people watched The Beatles perform that night — the largest television audience to date anywhere. This was the event that introduced The Beatles to America. But what the band did next would introduce them to the entire world, permanently transforming the music industry, forever ingraining them into the fabric of popular culture.

They went on tour.

From June 1962 to the time the band quit the stage in August 1966, The Beatles performed a staggering 815 times in 15 different countries and 90 cities around the world. This incredible period gave birth to “Beatlemania,” and showed the world something completely new: youth-culture unchained!

From Academy Award®-winning director Ron Howard, The Beatles: Eight Days a Week – The Touring Years tells the story of these exceptional years from the point of view of the band, the world and the fans. The GRAMMY®-winning film explores the inner workings of The Beatles — how they made decisions, created their music and built an astonishing collective career together. The band rode this tidal wave of energy for four incredible years, and then, almost as suddenly as their arrival on the world scene, they quit touring to focus their creativity in the studio. The film tells that amazing story, as well as the story of how, just months after leaving the stage at their very peak, The Beatles again changed the world by recording the groundbreaking album, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

Authorized by The Beatles and featuring new interviews with the band’s surviving members, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, The Beatles: Eight Days a Week – The Touring Years draws from more than 100 hours of rare and unseen footage collected from fans, news outlets and national archives, giving the viewer a ticket to this extraordinary ride.

WNIT Public Television is proud to air The Beatles: Eight Days a Week – The Touring Years premiering Saturday, November 25 at 8pm and re-airing on Thursday, November 30 at 8pm on WNIT Ch. 34.1.

SupporterSpotlight

WNIT Supporter Spotlight gives us an opportunity to highlight the impact that our supporters are having in our community, and Pat and Jeannie Welch are wonderful such examples.

Pat is the owner and president of Alpha Graphics, and Jeannie is now retired after previously working at Memorial Hospital. Pat is a current WNIT board member as well as a board member for Camp Tannadoonah and a member of the Rotary Club of South Bend. He is also a past president of both the Montessori School of Elkhart and the Elcona Country Club. Jeannie is involved with PEO, a philanthropic organization supporting scholarships for young women, and a former member of the St. Anthony’s church choir. Most importantly, she stays busy as a grandmother of four.

Pat and Jeannie appreciate the unbiased news reporting and important educational opportunities that WNIT provides for the community. Specifically, they enjoy Charlie Rose interviews and they are dedicated fans of Antiques Roadshow.

Pat and Jeannie were married in the spring of 2017. These self-proclaimed “old newlyweds” split their time between Birch Lake in Vandalia, MI and Naples, FL.

She was known for her detail in fashion, interior design and entertaining, was an avid reader who loved history, enjoyed watching NASCAR and college football. WNIT expresses our condolences to Jodie’s family and loved ones.

Maritza RoblesWNIT Public Television honors the life of Maritza Robles, WNIT board member, community leader and advocate for those in need. Maritza began her career with the South Bend Community School Corporation serving as the Director of Bilingual Services from 1981 until her retirement in 2012.
