Rome is the capital of Italy. It has a population of 2.7 million residents. Rome is home to the Colosseum (right) which was built in 1st century AD.

Sicily

Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. There are minor islands around it that are part of Sicily. Sicily is big in crime and the mafia.

Sardinia

Sardinia is the 2nd largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. It has 54 artificial lakes and dams to supply water and electricity. The main lakes are Lake Omodeo and Lake Coghinas.

Abruzzo

• Abruzzo consists of many mountains and beechwood forests.

• The beaches run along the Adriatic sea.

• People called this region the “Gods Country”

Basilicata

• Home to the Volturino mountains that are 2005 m high

• The Gravida, Bradano, Basento, Cavone, Agri, Sinni rivers are here

• It has San Giuliano, Lake of Pietra del Petrusillo and Lake of Abate Atonia (lakes)

• Liguria is alongside the border of France

• There are mountains in between Liguria and Piedmont and Tuscany

• Umbria is a very small region near Tuscany

• Umbria is home to many hills and mountains

• In its hills you can find many castles

Calabria

• Calabria is in the far South of Italy

• It is said to have the best beaches and cleanest seas

• Calabria is the peninsula above Sicily

Lombardy

• Lombary is right at the bottom of the Italian Alps

• Near Piedmont, there are many miles of rice fields

Piedmont

• Piedmont borders France and Switzerland

• It is famous for its food like wines, cheeses and different kinds of meat dishes

Apulia

• What some people call the heel of the boot that is Italy

• It is home to many castles

Campania

• Its capital is Naples• Here you can find

Pompeii, the Amalfi Coast and the Isle of Campri

• It was also the place that pizza, buffalo mozzarella and spaghetti were first made

Lazio

• Lazio runs along the Thyrrhenian sea

• Most of it is plains and small hills with mountains like Rieti and Monte Terminillo

Marche

• Marche touches the Adriatic sea and the provinces Ascona, Ascoli Piceno, Fermo, Macerata and Pesaro

• It is full of mountains and hills

• Its mountain range is a section of the Apennines

Tuscany

• Tuscany is full of vineyards and hills

• In the hills you can find dark green cypress trees

• You can also find hidden castles in the hills

• It is a very beautiful part of Italy

Aosta Valley

• Aosta valley is great for skiing

• You can go to Mont Blanc, Monte Rosa, the Matterhorn, Great Saint Bernard, Gran Paradiso and other ski mountains in Aosta.

Although Veneto looks small and boring it is in fact filled beautiful houses and art

It is only a few miles South of the Alps
