The programme of our school is 43 years old and offers dual specialization. The batch (2013-15) has 95 participants and their area of choice is Marketing, Finance and Human Resource Managment. ABOUT THE INSTITUTE
Himachal Pradesh University Business School, formerly the Institute of
Management Studies of H.P. University (Estd. 1971) is proud of some eminent
personalities in the field of management education who were associated in its
establishment & development.
Dr. S.K.R. Bhandari, Professor of Management Studies was invited form Banaras
Hindu University to design and start the MBA program. Late Dr. R.N. Singh, former Vice-
Chancellor, Rajasthan University, Jaipur headed the enlarged faculty of Commerce and
Business Administration.
The aim of HPUBS, is to recognize the universality of application of
management discipline to all walks of life. Besides so many management graduates,
the school also boasts of about hundred Ph. Ds and three hundred M. Phils. The
school is well equipped with modern library facilities. Modern teaching aids like
Audio-Video are being used in the classroom. The school has a well managed
Computer Lab, with all latest facilities.

INDUSTRIAL INTERACTION PROGRAMME (IIP)
The basic framework of the IIP is that the experts from various industries are
invited to the campus to have interactive sessions with the students; the sessions as of
now are held on a monthly basis but with the success that the programme has seen in
the initial few sessions, it has been planned that the frequency of such sessions would
be increased to once a fortnight.
The basic motive of the programme is to expose the students of HPUBS to the
corporate world and give them a general exposure to various industries so that by the
time they are about to graduate they have a fair idea of the industry that they want to
pursue a career in. This exposure to the students would be brought about by
interaction sessions and regular industrial visits.
PURPOSE
EXPOSURE: The most important purpose of the Industry Interaction Programme is to
expose the students to the cultures of the corporate world so that they gain insight
about various industries and their work practices.
SENSE OF DIRECTION: The various industrial experts can easily provide a sense of
direction to the students for their careers in different fields by giving them an insight
on the opportunities available and the trends prevalent in those fields.
INSPIRATION/MOTIVATION: Interaction with successful people can act as a huge
source of inspiration for the students who are at a critical stage of their careers who
more than anything else need motivation to be able to set and achieve their goals.
CONFIDENCE BUILDING: Such interactions enable students to open up to become
more interactive and give them confidence to be able to communicate well and shed
their fear of being irrelevant.
PORTFOLIO OF PROGRAMMES
The programs offered by the Business School are :

ACADEMIC YEAR
The academic year begins on First of July every year and extends upto the
Thirtieth of June of the following year. Semester system runs bi-annually from June to
December and January to June. The examinations are held at the end of each
semester.
ADMISSION PROCEDURE TO MBA PROGRAM The school admits 120 students for MBA course.
Minimum eligibility for the course is any first bachelor degree of a university,
established by law in India, at least with 50% marks.
The admission is based on the merit in HPUMAT competitive examination,
which comprises of Application Rating, Management Aptitude Test, Group Discussion
and Personal Interview.
INDUSTRIAL EXPOSURE
The students undergo industrial tour and industrial training during the winters
every year.
INDUSTRIAL TOUR
The students of first year undertake an industrial tour just after completion of
first semester. The visit is in line with the preference of the student of MBA programme.
The tour spreads over a period of about 15-20 days during which students visit
various industrial and commercial centers of the country. They visit a number of
industrial concerns and Management Institutes to get familiarized with their working
environment. This enables them to develop clarity of their areas of interest and chalk
out career goals and objectives.
WINTER TRAINING PROGRAMME
The winter training programme is viewed as an exposure to the work
environment of industry. In order to polish the future manager's skills, a winter
assignment is an essential academic requirement to the second year students.
Duration of the winter training is about eight to ten weeks, which begins in the month
of January every year. After general understanding of organizational setting during
two weeks each participant is expected to work in the field of his/her interest and
selects a problem for project work. Student has to complete it in consultation with
their supervision in the concerned organization. Student's performance is evaluated
on the basis of reports duly signed by his/her supervisor in the company. Each student
is required to submit the training report to the institute with in fifteen days of the
completion of training.
STUDENT ASSOCIATION ACTIVITIES
HPUBS Students Association is a front-runner duly-registered association
managed & controlled by the students of HPUBS Shimla. Round the year, the
association organizes a variety of events & activities. To mention as few:
TEACHERS DAY:
“Education is the key to success in life, and teachers make a lasting impact in the
lives of their students.” A teacher is a stepping stone in a student's life. Therefore, the
students of HPUBS leave no stone unturned to express their love and gratitude
towards their teachers by celebrating their day, “TEACHERS' DAY” September 2014 in
a reverent manner.
AARABDHI 2014
A National Level Management Fest named “Aarabhi '14” was organized by the
students of HPUBS on 12th and 13th May, 2014. The Chief Guest for the fest was Prof.
ADN Bajpai, hon'ble VC of the HPU. This 2-day fest included more than 40 events
categorized into four genres namely, Management, Literary, Fine-Arts & Cultural
events. Various Universities and Colleges had participated in different events.
FAREWELL 2014
Farewell has a sweet sound of reluctance. Good-bye is short and final, a word
with teeth sharp to bite through the string that ties past to the future. The students of
first year bid adieu to the second year students at the event called “Cheerios '14” held
at Ritz, The Mall, Shimla.
FRESHERS 2014
Time and tide waits for none, and so is life. One goes, another comes. It was the
time to welcome a new batch of students to the HPUBS, an addition to the family. A
welcome party named “Augustine” was organized for the junior batch at 'The British
Resort', Shimla on 3rd November, 2014. All the students enjoyed to their fullest.
INDUSTRIAL TRIP TO GOA
Like every year the students of HPUBS went on an Industrial Trip to Goa. The
main aim of this trip is to acquaint the students with the working of the industries. It
gives an exposure to the students as to how things are carries out at an industrial level.
The students visited industries like Surekleen (laundry industry) and Hit (mosquito
repellent). It was a good experience.
ALUMNI MEET�2015:
'BIENVENIDO A CASA' the annual Alumni Meet of the Business School was
organized on 4th April 2015 at Chandigarh. Forty distinguished alumni along with the
students of MBA current batch and teachers of HPUBS attended the event. The event
was marked by a presentation by the students about the activities and achievements
of the Business School. Many alumni who are successful entrepreneurs shared their
experiences with the participants in the meet. During the course of discussion a lot of
ideas and suggestions came up, which can be effective in improving the placement
activities of the Business School and interaction with the industry. It was also resolved
that the next meet will be organized at a bigger scale in Shimla in 2016.
THE MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION PROGRAM
AIM
The aim of MBA program is to enable a graduate student to become a practitioner during the course itself. While preparing a student for management career the emphasis is on self-learning. We encourage the analytical and searching minds to consolidate their varied skills, creativity, innovativeness and thus knowledge to be able to make mature judgments.
PATTERN
Master of Business Administration program is spread over four semesters (2 years). It attracts students from all over the country and admission is strictly based on merit in HPUMAT competitive examination comprising of written test, group discussion and personal interview. All 120 students inducted every year go through a comprehensive Management Program.

The curriculum of MBA Program has been designed such a way that it impart the knowledge of different functional areas of management and provides the global perspective and latest dimensions of business.
FIRST YEAR
The first two semesters are common to all the students of MBA with a focus on thorough grinding in the fundamentals of managements like accounting, organizational behavior, economics, computer, finance, marketing, operation research and quantitative technique. Besides academic learning, students are also taken for industrial visits in order to familiarize the participants about the actual industrial situations.

SECOND YEAR
During the last two semesters of the MBA programme, the students are imparted theoretical and practical aspects of the various specialized fields as per the aptitude and option of the students. All the students are required to complete a minimum of one research project under the guidance of a faculty member and are required to undergo for a period of in Industry. Each 'On the Job Training' Eight Weeksstudent has an option to select two specializations in the beginning of 2nd year.

Placement Cell is functioning within the Institute so as to have an intense
interaction with the Industry. The Cell comprises of teachers and students
representatives. This Cell provides guidance and counseling with respect to career
choices, performance goals, successful work habits, communication skills, helps
inculcating passion for success, developing enterprising attitude, positive thinking,
and organizes personality development programmes, workshops, and mock
interviews for students. The main focus of the Cell is to enhance University Industry
