Sasol’s world-scale petrochemical complex currently under construction is adjacent to our existing site in Southwest Louisiana. The complex will roughly triple the company’s global chemical production capacity in the United States and enable it to build on its strong positions in robust and growing global chemical markets. At the heart of the project is an ethane cracker that will produce 1.5 million tons of ethylene annually, benefiting from significant economies of scale. The complex also includes six chemical manufacturing plants. Approximately 90 percent of the cracker’s ethylene output will be converted into a diverse slate of commodity and high-margin specialty chemicals for markets in which Sasol has a strong position, underpinned by collaborative customer relationships.

Millions of barrels of oil, chemicals and other products are moved through pipelines each day in this country. They are moved safely, quietly, inexpensively and with minimal impact on the environment. Without this “mass transit” system, many of the household products you use each day, such as laundry detergents, shampoo, car wax, plastics and gasoline, would not be as readily available.

Most pipelines are buried underground. You most likely drive over pipelines each day and never realize it. Line markers, like the one below, are used to indicate the approximate location of pipelines. You can spot these markers where a pipeline intersects a street, highway or railroad.

The markers identify the material transported in the line, the name of the pipeline operator and a telephone number where the company can be reached in the event of an emergency.

Millones de barriles de petróleo, químicos y otros productos son transportados a través de ductos cada día en este país. A leak may be present if you notice any of the following: • A blowing or hissing sound • A white vapor cloud – like fog • Dust blowing from a hole in the ground • Continued bubbling in wet areas • Patches of dead vegetation (grass, bushes, trees, etc.) • Areas of abnormally hard or dry soil (discolored, cracked, different) • A gasoline-type or “oily” odor • Fire burning on or above the ground • A rainbow-colored sheen on water • Puddles of product below or near a pipeline • Leaking pipeline

There are a number of things you should do if you suspect a pipeline leak: • Stop using all spark or flame-producing equipment (pilot lights on water heaters, furnaces or kitchen ranges, electric motors, etc.) • Do not smoke • Notify your local fire or police department • Call the responsible company listed on the pipeline marker • Evacuate from the area • Do not drive into escaping gas or liquid • Do not attempt to operate a valve or plug a leak
