Mayor’s Youth Council Recognizing the need to honor the voices of young people in the City of Pittsburgh and the importance of highlighting youth’s lived experiences, Councilman Corey O’Connor will launch the Youth Participatory Budget Council (YPBC) in 2017. The YPBC is a youth led program that focuses on promoting understanding of city government, developing youth leadership, elevating youth voices in the City of Pittsburgh, and providing a platform for youth to propose projects to City Council members and the Mayor. In each session, youth will learn lessons on Teamwork, Planning Projects, City Government, Advocacy, and Research and Development, through a series of activities and guest speakers. These lessons will help the youth develop their project proposal. Youth are expected to participate in all sessions, develop a project proposal, and then present that project proposal to City Council at the end of the program.
