TEACHERS’...The current USTHS Father Regent, Rev. Fr. Ed Aligan, and current HS principal, Ms. Eden Tolentino, were guests of honor. Fr. Aligan gave the latebatchmate Miloy Cabansag the last sacramentswhile in the course of doing priestly duties atthe San Juan de Dios Hospital in Manila duringMiloy’s last few days.

Batch President Rocky Siasoco and formerPresidents Marlene Salazar-David and ApedSantos attended the event with Larry Aluning,Custer Castillo and Alex Salvador.

The affair sadly coincided with the College ofEngineering reunion. It affected the attendance of otherjubilarian classes celebrating this year. Obviously felt wasthe timid attendance of Pearl Jubilarian Batch ’76 thatoccupied only less than two tables. It came in full forcefive years ago for their Silver Jubilee.

The presence of other jubilarian classes, if there were any,was not noticeable. Sadly missed also was the traditional

noise-making ‘batch calls’ that recognize theattendance of all batches present during the night. The show also missed the traditional calling of theoldest batch and alumnus present. The show’sconcept was commendable, although overalltechnical direction could have been better executed.

A Scholarship grant was awarded. There wereraffles from the Alumni Association and give-awayitems from Manila Hotel. Complimentary’Aficionado’ perfumes courtesy of Joel Cruz fromBatch ’82 were also handed out. Beer was openbar.

USTHSAA President for the year is Baltazar Endriga ofthe CCP. Vice-Presidents Mitos Araneta of Batch ‘56 andQuiel Delgado of ‘81 actively managed the affair with theparticipation of other committee members.

The year…2007. The tunnel of flowers is white in fact. The dress of the lady in a pearl colored gown glitters as the rayof lights now directly hit her. Two mascots at the end wait as she approaches. It is a design made by an award winningbatchmate from a contest previously held.

She finally reaches the end and was advised to momentarily stop. In front of her was an unaided videocam fixed atopa tripod. She thought it was there just to capture and document her presence. On second thought, what else could it befor?

The color of rays began to suddenly change. The white flowers became candy red, so with her pearl colored gown. Itshifts to powder blue and everything else changes with it, too! She briefly stooped her head in amazement to check onherself as she revel on what more exciting enhancement will be done to her. The magic of this lights show excites andshe could no longer hide her delight.

She suddenly notices that nobody among the crowd looks at her. They are all staring at two separate angles and shecuriously glanced to where they were focused. Two giant frames that initially looked like backdrops in the likeness ofa pearl opens....that pearl backdrop is opening!!!

The pearl or, actually the clam is now completely open. You can see water still dripping from around this fantasticgiant sea creature. A scream is suddenly heard, “Oh, my GODDD! It’s me on those two giant screens!”

Indeed, she saw herself in disbelief. It has finally dawned upon her on what that video camera was for. OOOOOHs!and WOWWWs! are now being heard everywhere. Some begin to ask who that lady is. Is she from 87?

Letters of the alphabet shoot print in quick, rapid succession as her name pops up electronically on the same screen. Some still cannot remember. Even before people can begin to open and scan their 30-year old Veritas, her old highschool picture now comes into view. There are now three substances on those giant screens: her present likeness, hername and her old high school photograph.

She is now instructed by the two mascots to exit the archway of flowers. Slowly and gently she walks through aguided pathway back to her table. She passes by one table after the other, her enchanting self still perched on the giantscreen. She can see that at the corner of her eyes.

She now feels very conscious of herself as people clap in wondrous delight. Another unaided camera hangs above, digitally manipulated from what looks like the arm of a crane, following her every move from high above thosescaffoldings. Men approach to steal a kiss, those thirty year fantasy of theirs suddenly coming to fruition. Alas! “Ifinally got that kiss!”

As she walks by, a power dresser and former high school ladies’ man now looms in the dark tunnel, about to reveal hismachismo.

But people are not yet done with the lady. They just can’t seem to release their hold on her. Tightly fit, V-shaped infront down to her belly-button, her dress seemed to be her own god’s twin creation. It reveals an unbelievable displayof slightly covered, still upright breasts. Without makeup, the face remains flawless even with the passing of time, herback a velvety persuasion. The behind is full of life, more discernible with nay signs of panty lines. Her belly ismarvelously curved, analogous to the ‘sakto’ of Coke. At forty-six, she is the living antonym of aging, a carefullymanufactured article of passion, and skill.

I have attended numerous General Alumni Homecomings(GAH) since the late ‘90s. Boards are elected yearlyprimarily only to organize the next big event. RockySiasoco’s discussion with me on how the mother AlumniAssociation must function led us to a more aggressiveposture before the body.

The recent experience of the present Board, where turnoverof accountabilities to them was delayed, is a signal that amore organized and visionary form of association must beconvened soon. Rocky and I are very thankful that batches

The Mother AlumniAssociation

’56 and ’81 took the initiative in organizing the Feb. 18,2006 affair. Just the same, rituals were missed here andthere. Elections for the incoming Board of Directors, traditionally done on the very night of every GAH did noteven happen.

It will not be long before we encounter a weak group offuture Silver Jubilarians lacking in organization and reunionexperience. Kakaloka yan !!! This is a disaster waiting inthe wings if the mother Alumni Association does notestablish even a Secretariat of its own. Furthermore, Rockysays that the incoming Board of the Alumni Associationmust gain recognition beyond organizing parties. It mustcommit itself to the ideals of its Thomasian pledge. Thiscan be done by undertaking various humane socio-civicactivities. If it chooses not to commit to this, the least itcould do is track its alumni and not leave that job to theindividual batches. Afterall, they may serendipitouslyregroup, or tragically fail to find batchmates at all!

The University’s trunkline is 409-1611 . It will celebrate

its 400th year in 2011. Does the USTHSAA still have

time to stand up and be recognized? Batch ’77 thinks so.And our Batch President says “let ‘77 lead the way!”
