Haunting music and poetic storytelling combine to tell the fascinating life of iconic
American writer, Edgar Allen Poe. A literary rock star of his day. Poe struggles with
tragedy and addiction, poverty and loss, yet produces some of the world’s most
original, visionary and enduring literature before dying in unexplained
circumstances at the age of 40. At once gorgeous and grotesque, Nevermore
explores the events that shape Poe's character and career, blurring the line between
fact and fiction-- after all, as Poe himself writes, "All that we see or seem is but a
dream within a dream."

Blue Connection will host and welcome
Millikin’s very own BFA students, Natalie
Zelman (art pictured on the left) and Taryn Pepping (art pictured on the right).
Natalie Zelman is a Senior Studio Art major with concentrations in ceramics and
sculpture. She says, "my ceramic work is an exploration of the functional form and
the freedom that the blank canvas of a wide platter or bowl can provide." Taryn
Pepping is a Junior Art Therapy major with concentrations in painting and
ceramics, due to graduate in December 2017. She takes a lot of her inspiration from
her own energy, emotions, and decisions. Because of this, she exclaims: "I let each
new stroke change my end product, and often work until I've resolved the anxiety
caused by previous mistakes and decisions." Come to support these wonderful and
talented students. Like always, complimentary food and drinks will be provided!

A Closing Reception and Awards Ceremony will be held on Saturday, November 19 from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm in the Perkinson Gallery in Millikin’s Kirkland Fine Arts Center. The reception is open to the public and to the press. The awards ceremony will begin at 4:30 pm. Prior to the reception, the high school students will have the opportunity to participate in an afternoon of workshops known as ACE (Arts, Creativity, and Entrepreneurship). School of Theatre and Dance Student News
On Saturday, November 12, five School of Theatre & Dance students will attend the Midwestern Undergraduate
Conference in the Humanities at Central College in Pella, Iowa. The five students--Rachel Head, Mary
McCormack, Daniel Mendoza, Grace Piper, and Blythe Schwaller, are all earning their BA degrees
in Theatre from Millikin. Each student will present a staged reading of a ten-minute play originally written in
the Spring 2016 semester as part of the TH 325: Playwriting class. The plays range in style and tone, from
abstract to realistic, comic to deadly serious. Since the end of the spring semester these students have
continued to revise their plays, responding to feedback from classmates and their instructor, Dr. Tom Robson,
Assistant Professor of Theatre & Dance.
Millikin's School of Theatre & Dance has a long reputation for producing tremendously talented performers,
yet without plays those performers will have no place to demonstrate their skills. By sending five students to
this conference, the School reaffirms its commitment to the development of new works and new voices for
the stage. Whether it be through the nationally recognized New Musicals program or the growing emphasis
on student writers, the School of Theatre & Dance proudly celebrates playwriting. The School of Theatre &
Dance and the College of Fine Arts extend our heartiest congratulations to these five outstanding students
and celebrate this shining example of Performance Learning in action.
