I. NEWS ZOOM-IN

1. SAMATVA

Intercollegiate Competitions on Gender

Sensitization- 4th April, 2018.

The one day intercollegiate event on Gender

Sensitization, titled ‘SAMATVA’ was held in

the college campus with the objective of

creating awareness among the youth on

Gender Equality and Women Empowerment.

The event was inaugurated by Mr. Kapil Dev,

renowned Media Personality and an Effective

Speaker. In his deliberation, he enlightened

the audience on the significance of gender

equality and how a woman can multitask.

The Principal’s message on the importance of

Gender sensitization captivated the attention

of audience. Rev. Sister Japamala, College-

Correspondent reflected upon the significance

of gender sensitization and wished the

participants best of luck. As a part of this

event various competitions were held.

The response to the event was overwhelming.

Around 277 students from various colleges of

the city such as Bhavan’s Vivekananda

College, Kasturba Degree College, Cognizant

College of Commerce, Little Flower Degree

College and St. Pious X Degree & PG

College enthusiastically participated in the

five events conducted on the following

themes:

CAPTURING THOUGHTS - An online open

competition was organized by the department

of Physical Sciences in which participants

were asked to express their feelings on “My

daughter, My pride” and “The woman who

inspired me”. More than 100 participants in

the age group of 15 to 75 years, from various

countries such as US, UK, Australia, Dubai

and different states of India participated in the

competition. An album comprising the

collection of the messages on “Capturing

Thoughts” was played in the auditorium.

Dr.Sree Devi received award for the best

presentation from Mr Maanas-An Upcoming

film Actor.

ABHINAYA - Dramatics Competition was

organized by the Department of Commerce. 8

teams participated and gave stupendous

performances.

MOB GAB – A competition on Group

Discussion was organized by the Department

of Life-Sciences. Around 16 groups of 72

students participated in the event. The group

discussion event saw the students discussing

on various issues pertaining to gender

discrimination & empowerment, Reservation

Bill for women, Gender issues & challenges,

equal pay and equal work, problems faced by

trans-genders & gender stratification. All the

members of the groups were successful in

putting forth their views & exhibiting good

leadership & communication skills. I prize

was won by Bhavan’s College and II prize

won by St. Pious X Degree & P.G. College.

NRITHYANJALI - Group Dance

Competition was organized by the

Department of the Second Languages. A total

of 10 colleges participated in the competition.

I Prize was bagged by Kishore Dora & Group

from Bhavan’s Vivekananda Degree College

and II Prize by Abegail & Group from

St.Pious X Degree & PG College.

SPEECH CRAFT – A debate competition on

the themes- “Enriching and Empowering

Women through Education” and Elocution

Competition on “The most inspiring woman

leader in the world” was organized by

Departments of Social Sciences. 26 students

participated in the elocution competition and

spoke about various inspiring leaders such as

Laxmi Narayan Tripathy, Oprah Winfrey,

Malala etc.

The Departments of Biochemistry and

English organized the Inaugural and

Valedictory Function of Samatva. The

Communication were in-charge for the

photography of the event.

2. LMS- Learning Management System

(STUMAGZ)

The Management and Dept. of English

coordinated with Stumagz to make the

college a digitalized learning campus for all.

Stumagz is a software application for the

administration, documentation, tracking,

reporting and delivery of courses or training

programs. It helps the instructor to deliver

material to the students, administer tests and

other assignments, track student progress, and

manage record-keeping.

An interactive orientation for the staff was

held by Stumagz on Learning Management

System (LMS) on 8th Dec 2017.

An orientation on Learning Management

System (LMS) for all UG students was

organized on 3rd March 2018. Mr. Fredy and

Mr. Teja from the Stumagz team gave a

practical orientation for staff on 9th March

2018 and also selected the Avengers, the

student volunteers from each faculty.

4. KRTYA - 2018

On 18th April, 2018 the students of St.Pious X

MBA College for Women organized a state

level - Management Meet ‘KRTYA - 2018’

on the theme ‘INNOVATION AND

BEYOND’. This event was aimed at fostering

innovation by encouraging student

entrepreneurs. 287 participants from 30

colleges participated in various formal and

informal events. The Chief Guest of the event

was Mr. Ravi Teja Jallepalli –CEO-Goli

Soda, and Vijaya Kumar-Lead, BVIC Bala

Vikasa International Centre.

The key event of the Meet was ‘Product

Presentation’ where the students were

encouraged to come out with their innovative

ideas for start-ups through product

presentation- a working model with their

unique features to scale it on the business

floor. The event was judged by Mr. Ravi Teja

Jallepalli, Mr. Ravikumar and Mr.Thalla

Veerendranath.

The second session of the meet started with

the first rounds of formal events, informal

events and subsequent rounds of formal

events. The day came to an end with the

valedictory session where the winners of all

the formal events were given cash awards

followed by a presentation of valedictory

report by Mrs. C. Latha –HOD – Department

of MBA and vote of thanks by the II year

students of MBA.

5. TWO-DAY NATIONAL SEMINAR

- MBA DEPARTMENT

The department of Business Management

organized Two-Day National Seminar on

‘Startup Ecosystem: Opportunities &

Challenges’ under the able guidance of the

College Management. The Seminar was

attended by more than 200 participants, who

included Faculty of Affiliated Colleges,

Research Scholars and Students. The Seminar

was inaugurated by the hon’ble Vice-

Chancellor, Prof. S. Ramachandram along

with Rev. Sister Japamala, Correspondent and

Rev. Sister Velangini, Principal, St. Pious X

Degree & P.G. College and Prof.K. Kalidas,

Principal of St. Pious X MBA College for

Women. The other dignitaries for the

inaugural function included Mr. Mihir

Paryal, Directorr ATI, Mr.T.Suresh, Founder

TechiesNest, Mr. T. Veerendranath, Co-

founder, Techies Nest, Mr. Ramesh

Venuganti, Mr. Hafees Basha and Dr Mohd.

Rafi.

Inaugurating the seminar Prof. Ramachandra,

Vice chancellor, appreciated the college for

choosing the topic which was apt and advised

to conduct series of activities to fructify the

substratum of the seminar. Prof. K. Kalidas,

Convener, presented his detailed report on the

Two Day seminar highlighting its purpose,

scope and possible endeavor. Mr. Tanneru

Suresh, in his key note address, stated that the

future of India is in the hands of 75 crore

young population who are under the age of 25

years. Innovation entrepreneurship is the only

solution to the future.

The seminar was spread into four technical

tracks. Around 24 papers were presented on

various themes and sub themes of the

seminar. The participants were happy with the

presentations and deliberations. The seminar

finally passed major resolutions on the

Startup Ecosystem – Opportunities and

Challenges for furthering the activities/events

by the college and also to the benefit of

faculty and research scholars. The valedictory

address was given by Prof. Gopal Reddy,

Registrar, O.U. The Seminar proceedings

were declared closed with vote of thanks by

Prof. K..Kalidas, Convener of the program.

6. INTERNATIONAL SOCIO-

CULTURAL INTERACTION

23rd March 2018: A team of 15 members

from Tanzania, Africa visited the campus, as

a part of Indo-Social Cultural interaction

organized by Department of Computer

Science. The team comprised of 11 students

accompanied by 4 teachers, Br.Robert,

Letticia, Dotto and Seclas. The team members

interacted with the students of the college to

understand the education system and with lot

of enthusiasm visited various departmental

laboratories, Library, Gymnasium and Sports

room. After the glimpses of the campus, they

participated in the cultural program organized

in the Auditorium.

The Dignitaries, Correspondent Rev.Sr.

Japamala, Principal Rev.Sr.Velangini of

St.Pious College and Br. Robert from

Tanzania addressed the gathering. The

students of the college depicted Indian culture

through Folk dance and skit. The students

performance on song ‘Bombalela’ has

attracted the gathering and invoked their spirit

to join them with zeal and enthusiasm.

Br. Robert expressed his views and

acknowledged that students of St. Pious are in

plenty with talents, campus with sophisticated

technology and Infrastructure. The program

ended with vote of thanks followed by

National Anthem.

7. NATIONAL LITTERLESS

COMPETITION FOR WOMEN-

ZOOLOGY DEPARTMENT

Three students studying at St. Pious X Degree

and PG College For Women, Nacharam won

first prizes in ‘LITTER LESS’campaign

organized by YRE (Young Reporters For

Environment), SAYEN (South Asian Youth

Environment Network) and FEE (Federation

for Environment Education). This

Competition was held at National level and

included three categories: Article Writing,

Videography and Photography. There were

more than 1500 entries from across India and

only 9 students were chosen as winners.

The names of winners from Hyderabad were

Huma Khatoon - First prize- Article Writing.

Marina Judy - First prize – Videography

Syeda Sameena Fatima-First prize -

photography. Mrs. Grace Beena Paul, Head

Dept. of Zoology, was instrumental in

motivating the students, and was awarded an

International Certificate of ‘Best Teacher’ in

Environmental Sustainability. She was also

presented with a gift by FEE in collaboration

with Wrigley’s and associated with SAYEN,

CEE and Paryavaran Mitra. The Award

ceremony was held at Lucknow on 27th

November 2017.

The speakers at the ceremony were Mrs.

Madhavi Joshi, Director of Sayen, and Mrs.

Preethi from CEE and Mr. Ratanmanlal-

Senior Journalist. Mr.Sagar Suri, CEE played

a key role in managing the event, sponsorship

of accommodation and travel. The

Management, Correspondent and Principal

were the tower of support

❖ On 23rd March, 2018 Dr. R. Komala

and Dr.Annie Sunil attended IQAC

Seminar at St. Joseph’s college on the

topic ‘NAAC Assessment process and

Methodology’.

❖ On 21st April 2018, Mrs. G.

Nagalaxmi attended the national

seminar on “Revised NAAC

Framework: The road ahead towards

excellence in Quality Education” at

Bhavan’s Vivekananda College. She

presented a paper on the topic ‘Gender

equality-An exclusive goal’ at the

seminar.

ADD-ON COURSES

As a part of policy initiative

interdisciplinary culture is promoted un

the college. Inter disciplinary classes were

conducted by the departments of Physics,

Botany, biotechnology, Genetics and

Mathematics.

Dept. of Physics : 15th Feb to 15th March,

2018 Ms Paleena Thulimilli from Dept of

Physics conducted the interdisciplinary

students from B.Com, BA and BSc. A total of

109 students attended thiscourse

Dept. of Botany & Biotechnology: 13th to

16th Feb 2018. The dept. has conducted

Interdisciplinary classes for the II year,

semester – IV B.Sc., B.Com, & B.A students

on the topic:-Advances of sciences &

technology for human welfare. 100 students

opted for this course.

Dept. of Genetics: 16th Feb 2018 The

department has conducted Interdisciplinary

classes for the II year - semester IV - B.Sc.,

B.Com & B.A students on the topics: Life

Style Diseases and Management. 100 students

opted for this course.

Dept. of Mathematics: Conducted

Interdisciplinary classes from 14.2.2018 to

21.3.2018 on Basic Mathematics.

MBA Interdisciplinary courses:

Mrs. Anika and Mrs. Sushama from

department business management were the

resource persons for Interdisciplinary

courses on Online Trading for UG students

(B.Com, B.Sc., and BA). 90 students Enrolled

and successfully completed the course which

was held from 1st to 15th March 2018

ADD-ON courses

Dept. of Chemistry : A 30 hour add on course

on Molecular Docking was conducted by

QSTATIX for M.Sc. Chemistry students in

the month of April 2018.

Dept. of Computer Science. Advance Excel

Training Course: The Department of

Computer Science in collaboration with

NIIT, conducted 40days training in Advance

Excel Course from 25th Oct, 2017 to 15th

Dec, 2017. The Resource person Mrs.

Rameshwari, from NIIT, delivered the

lectures as well as practical sessions in lab

every alternate day. 30 final year students

from different groups registered for the

training.

The Course Outcomes are as follows: After

completing this course, students will be able

to apply advanced features of Microsoft

Office Excel 2013 and benefit at their

workplace by increasing productivity and

efficiency. Students will be able to extend

their knowledge on Microsoft Office Excel

and use it to be more productive and efficient

at their workplace. The Students are

evaluated after taking a MCQ test and Lab

practical test from the trainer at the end of the

Course. Based on their performance the

certificate is generated and will be issued by

NIIT Ltd.

Two faculty members Ms.Sandhya Maithreyi

and Mrs.N.Swathisree have successfully

completed this 54 hrs course.

MBA Add on Courses:

• Advance Diploma course: is offered by

NIIT in Advanced MS – Excel for the

Business Management students which

commenced from 1st November 2017.

• Soft Skills: To equip the students with the

required Soft skills the college has

organized 40 hrs program on soft skills

2. ORIENTATION PROGRAMS

Commerce: An orientation program for

commerce students was organized on 6th

April on various schemes of Central Govt. by

Mr Jagdish from Disha Trust & ICICI bank

Social Sciences: “SHE TEAM” Orientation-

II on 5th Jan, 2018

She Team orientation was organized for BA

PPML, MPML and EPP students by the

Department of Social Sciences and

Rachakonda police. DCP Saleema was the

resource person for the orientation. She had

an interaction with the students on safety

measures for women, importance and

working of She teams.

MBA: Orientation on Employability skills by

Dr Hyma and Ms Pratibha from Soft Skillz

Institute, Tarnaka was organized for 1st year

MBA

students.

Computer Science

World Health Day 7th April 2018

World Health Day is celebrated every year on

(7th April). On this occasion an orientation

programme on Organ Donation by a Private

Organization ‘DO INDIA’ in collaboration

with TCS was organized for the students of II

UG and PG. Mr. Ram Coordinator of ‘DO

India’ motivated the students on the

importance of Organ Donation and also

suggested to choose a proper channel for

donating organs. Two 2nd year students were

nominated as college volunteers for

registration.

3. CAREER GUIDANCE

Dept. of Biochemistry: Career Guidance

Program, 22nd Feb, 2018 at Conference Hall

A Career Guidance Program on ‘Various

opportunities after Post-graduation’ was

organized by the Department of Biochemistry

for the students of 1stMSc and 2ndM.Sc

Biochemistry and Microbiology. The guest

speaker of the program was Miss. Shradddha

Vyas from Vyas Academy, CSIR. She

enlightened the students on the possible

options after Post-graduation like Industries,

Teaching and Research and how to reach

them. She guided the students about the exam

the students was overwhelming.

Career Guidance for PG students by speaker

Dr. Anuradha Govt. Degree College For

Women, Begumpet.

Dept. of Microbiology & MBA

On 18th November 2017 a Seminar on ‘Goal

setting’ by Lion K.S.K Jayadeva Rao for

M.Sc and MBA students was organized by

Departments of Microbiology and MBA in

association with Lions Club of Hyderabad,

Krishnanagar .

150 students of I and II yr MBA, PG students

of Microbiology, Biochemistry and

Chemistry attended the session. The program

The Department of Psychology conducted a

organized Saksham program and a safety

clinic under the aegis of Petroleum

Conservation Research Association and

2018.The officer from HPCL explained the

need of safety measures to be adopted while

using LPG Cylinder. He described all the

precautions to be followed with live

demonstration. Around 150 students (PG and

MBA) attended the program.

Workshop on Gender Awareness - 20th Mar,

2018

Dept. of English

An intercollegiate workshop on Gender

Awareness was organized by the Dept. of

English to obtain an understanding of gender

roles and responsibilities in the present time.

The workshop was headed by Ms. Pankaja,

Assistant Professor, RBVRR Women’s

College and the faculty, Dept. of English St.

Pious X College. Teachers and students of

other colleges were invited to take part in the

workshop. Little Flower College, Malla

Reddy Engineering College & Loyola

College attended the workshop. Dr. D.

Pankaja presented a paper on Gender

Awareness and different types of Gender and

various issues faced by them. The first

session was a question answer session that

discussed gender queries of girls and boys

represented by male and female students from

each college.

They expressed their views, problems faced

and how to solve them, existing notions on

gender bias and put forth a vision on gender

equality. ‘He for she’ and ‘She for he’ were

transformed into ‘He and she for he’ and ‘She

and he for she’ and ‘We for Zie’ especially

keeping in mind the transgenders. The

Pronoun ‘Ze’ for trans genders was also

discussed by the students.

The participants came up with interesting and

innovative role plays in the next session

which were appreciated by all. Each play

different situations and thus made the

audience aware of the mistakes in order to

overcome them. The participants were also

given a questionnaire which was handed over

to Ms. Pankaja for further study. All the

participants received certificates for attending

the workshop.

World Theatre Day - 27th Mar, 2018

Dept of English

On the occasion of World Theatre day, the St.

Pious X Dept. Of English organized a

seminar and panel discussion on Women

Enpowerment by noted film and TV

personalities, Mr Kapil Dev, Mrs. Shahanaz

(Event Manager, Model and Actor), Mr

Sudheer (Producer), Mr. Charan (Actor), and

Mr Prashant (Cast Crew Manager). Mr. Kapil

talked about filmmaking, Mr Sudhir spoke

about his Studio ‘Laxvil Studios’. Mrs.

Shahnaz was wonderful in motivating the

students to pursue modelling, acting or event

management by giving examples from her life

and how she balances work and personal life

in the glamorous film industry by maintain

values and standards of living. She also stated

the importance of convincing the family

members before choosing professions such as

acting or modelling in case they believe that

they are not as clean/safe/well paid as other

professions. Mr. Charan, the younger brother

of the renowned actress Jaya Prada, took over

and spoke about some of his films and his

experiences when he entered into the film

industry. Mr. Prashant who was a main part

of the casting crew in the Laxvil Studios

wished the best of luck to all the students in

the audience who were interested in acting

Interactive session: 7 students were asked to

come up to the dais and join the guests for a

panel discussion. Mr Kapil was the moderator

and involved the guests and the students in

asking and answering questions and enacting

a few situations. It ended in some hands-on

experience in spontaneous acting with real

actors for the students. A few student groups

exhibited their talent in acting which were

appreciated and assessed by the dignitaries.

Two of the students were given a role in one

of the forthcoming productions by them.

conducted a seminar on ‘Motivational

Enhancement Therapy’ for the final year

conducted a seminar on “Emotional

Regulation” for the first and second year

students of BA MPML & PPML and the

resource person was Ms. Tina Fernandes

from St. Francis College for Women,

Begumpet. The main objective of the seminar

was to equip one to identify the destructive

emotions and help them to manage the

distressing ones. Students were equipped with

the skills to deal with negative emotions and

also to manage them in a better way during

tough situations.

Modern Analytical Techniques In Chemistry

– 22nd Feb, 2018.

19 students of First year M.Sc attended a

seminar at AMS (Andhra Mahila Sabha),

Hyderabad on 22nd February, 2018.The title

of the seminar was ‘Modern Analytical

Techniques’ in Chemistry. Four students

participated in Power point presentation

competition which was conducted as a part of

the seminar. Two students (Ms. Swarna and

Ms. Navyasree) bagged prizes for delivering

MBA: Workshop on Research Methodology

2nd May, 2018

A half- day workshop on ‘Questionnaire

design’ was organized for MBA I yr students.

100 students attended the workshop. The

resource person was Dr A. Patrick from

faculty of Commerce, Osmania University,

Hyderabad. This workshop briefed upon how

to define a research problem, and explained

the complete research process. The

criticalities of designing the questionnaire

was discussed throwing light upon certain

issues that distort the information sought.

The various sources for collecting

information and its relevance to different

methods of eliciting the information were

presented. With several real time examples

the speaker cleared several queries and

brought clarity to research methodology.. A

list of research topics, ways of identifying the

need of data, the methods to follow to elicit

the right response and how to avoid errors

were also demonstrated.

Medical Camp

The MBA department organized a medical

camp in collaboration with Lions club, A.S

Rao Nagar on 23rd and 24th of November

2017. The Inauguration ceremony was on

23rd where the members of Lions club

enlightened the gathering regarding their

work and the initiatives taken to help one live

a healthy life in body, mind and soul. The

camp was opened for the students, staff,

convent and neighborhood from morning

10.00 am to 3.00 pm in the afternoon. Six

doctors i.e.Ophthalmologist, General

Surgeon, Diabetologist, Physiotherapist,

Homeopath and Dentist rendered their

services to nearly 1000 members.The

benefactors were deeply satisfied and

expressed their gratitude for arranging a

needful service in the college.

GENDER SENSITIZATION PROGRAM

Department of Business Management has

organized an intercollege competition on the

theme “Gender Sensitization” on 7th March

2018. The programme was aimed at enabling

the youth to understand the importance of

gender equality.

The event was inaugurated by the

Correspondent, Rev. Sr. Japamala and Prof.

K. Kalidas, Principal, MBA. During the

inaugural session Rev.Sr.Japamala,

Correspondent, addressed the students on the

current situation of the women in India and

mentioned that the change can come only if

the youth brings out a change from within.

The programme was planned and hosted by

the II year MBA students, and competitions

like “Freeze to Unfreeze”, were conducted

where the participants were given a theme to

be depicted in a freezed position and once the

theme is identified, they have to speak on the

theme for one minute. 20 students from 5

colleges (MJ college, Vishwa Vishwani,

Kasturba Gandhi college and David Memorial

College for Management) participated and the

winners were Azam, Dilshad, Asma and

Simran from MJ College.

IV. TESTS, EVALUATION AND

REMEDIAL CLASSES

- The first Unit Test for first and second

year UG students started on 27th February

2018.

- The OU first Internal Exam for Semester

2 and 4 was on 6th and 7th March 2018.

- The second Unit Test for 1st and 2nd years

was conducted from 2nd April 2018.

- The OU second Internal Exam was held

on 12th and 13th April 2018 for the first

and second years.

- The Prefinal exam for BA, BCOM and

BSC 2nd and 4th Semester began on 23rd

April 2018.

- The answer scripts of all the Internal

Exams were evaluated within a weeks

time and the feedback was given to the

students for further improvement. The

Internal assessment marks were submitted

online to Osmania University.

V. CELEBRATIONS

CHRISTMAS

The Dept. of English was incharge of

Christmas Celebration. Christmas was

celebrated in a grand manner in the

Auditorium on 11-Dec-2017. Ms.Monoshree

presided over the function and welcomed the

Principal Sr. Velangini, Corrrespondent

Sr.Japamala , Chief guest Rev. Fr. David &

the students of final year UG students. Ms.

Annie Sunil (HOD of English) orated the

significance of Christmas. The celebration

started with a welcome dance by B.Sc

students followed by a prayer by Mrs.Sheila

Keziah and Ms.KBahavya (General Secretary

of Student Council). In this celebration the

college choir rendered a prayer song and

Ms.Catherine Chelsea (President), student

council read the scripture.

The chief guest Fr.David addressed the

students with the Christmas message.

Principal Sr.Velangini and Correspondent

Sr.Japamala greeted the students. The

programme moved on to the cultural session

where the BA Students enacted a musical

drama and symphony based on ‘The Birth &

Death of Jesus’. B.com student danced for a

festive song based on the birth of Christ. Vote

of thanks was given by Ms.Anagha Joy. At

the end of the program Santa Clause arrived

and filled the entire crowd with joy and

danced with everyone with great enthusiasm

OUTCRY a South African band, performed

on 13-Dec-2017 at the college campus in the

quadrangle. Outcry is a group of young

individuals who had come down to college to

create an impact through music and bring

positivity among the young students/youth.

This band also ignited the Christmas season.

The students of III B.A, B.Com & B.Sc

watched, sang and danced with the band. The

novelty of the band is adding values and

morals in educating the youth. The band also

thanked the management for their hospitality

as well as providing time and space towards

fulfilling their mission.

Resonance 2017-2018, a three Day

intercollegiate competitions was

The 1st day started with a short Prayer

invoking God’s blessings for the

College choir rendered prayer song for the

lamp. Chief Guest in her message

emphasized that participation in various

cultural and co-curricular events helps to

build confidence and result in the all

round development of the students.

She also appreciated the College for

gaining a good reputation in and around

Hyderabad.

The dignitaries later declared RESONANCE

2017-2018 open by formal ribbon cutting.

The Resonance 2017 saw the participation of

students competing in various events under

different categories. The cultural fest was

divided into Literary, Fine Arts, Theatre Arts,

Music and Dance.Altogether 20 competitions

were organized under the events listed below:

The starting day of Resonance i.e 1st February

began with 9 different competitions viz.. Fruit

Carving, Creative Writing, Handmade Craft,

Declamation, Nail Art, Face Painting,

General Quiz, Stand Up Comedy, and Group

Singing which took place in parallel sessions.

were held on 3rd day. The students came up

with some energetic dances performances.

The valedictory session began with report on

3-day Resonance events by Mrs Pritha Ghosh,

Utsav- The diversity Fest came to an end with

vote of thanks and showers of blessings.

3. NATIONAL SCIENCE DAY

National Science Day was celebrated on 28th

Feb, 2018. The theme for this year was

‘Science and Technology for a Sustainable

Future’. All neighboring schools of Nacharam

area were invited on the occasion of this day

.Students from 7 schools visited accompanied

by their teachers. The college was a gala all

around with students of different schools

visiting the college. Each department in their

own way of made the students realize the

importance of science and how it can be used

for a sustainable future.

The department of Computer Science

enlightened the responsibility of educating the

As a part of National Science day students of

Interactive and around 100 blood Samples

were analyzed for Blood Grouping. The

In the honour of Discovery of Raman Effect

by Sir.C.V.Raman 28th Feb, 2018 is

celebrated as National Science Day. On this

occasion students from BSc and MSc have

designed and also displayed working models

on ‘Laser Security System’, ‘Rain Water

indicator, ‘Hydraulics’ etc.

WOMENS’ DAY – 8th March, 2018

Dept. of Biochemistry

The International Women’s Day was

celebrated at St Pious X Degree and PG

college for women with the Theme “LA

BELLE FETE-In Celebration of

Womanhood” on March 8th,, 2018 .The Guest

of Honour was Dr. Kalpagam Polasa , Former

Director NIN. The program began at 1:00 PM

in the auditorium. Miss V.Rani Padmini

Faculty gave a welcome note, followed by

prayer session by Mrs. Afreen.

Ms.C.Vanisree HOD, Department of

Biochemistry gave the Significance of the

Day and urged that this women’s day should

be a reminder of the discrimination and

inequality against women and how one

should fulfill their responsibilities in

safeguarding the integrity, sanctity and glory

of the womanhood

of Biochemistry Introduced the Guest of

Honour Dr.Kalpagam Polasa to the gathering.

Dr.Kalpagama mam gave her valuable

message on women Empowerment and the

Goals of the present day woman, her health

and socio economic requirements.

Sr.Japamala secretary and correspondent,

extended her warm wishes and addressed the

gathering about the Gender equality and how

She also motivated students about the

significance of the education in creating an

identity for a woman. The prizes were

awarded to the winners of the Painting

Competition that was held on 3rd March on

the theme “Be Bold For Change” and the

Caption contest held on 5th and 6th March on

the Theme “ I am Proud to be a Woman.”.

The formal session thus came to an end and

the Cultural programmes begun.

The cultural session was hosted by

Ms.Kathyayani and Ms. Niharika of II M.SC

Biochemistry.The events of Clutural Session

included Dance by M.Sic I & II year

conducted Women’s day celebration on

10th March 2018 in collaboration with a

NGO OSFS (Our step for service)

whose founder is an Alumni of BtBC.

On this occasion the NGO conducted various

poetry, and 2 minutes speech on their

personal inspiring experiences being a

women. All competitions were based on the

theme “Women empowerment”. Nearly 40

celebrated National Mathematics Day on

22.12.2017. On the occasion of a great

mathematician Shri Srinivasa Ramanujan’s

Games. Mrs K Sri Devi (Department of

Mathematics) and Mrs.M.Anitha (Department

of Statistics) are the judges for the

competitions. Department has given prizes to

MBA FRESHERS PARTY

Students of second MBA 2016-18 batch has

organised a freshers party for the new comers

(2017-19) on 9th September 2017 in the

collage auditorium.

The programme has started with a formal

prayer, followed by scripture reading and

lighting of the lamp by the principal

Dept of Zoology

On 26th November 2017, Received an

invitation to Lucknow for the Best Teacher

award in Environmental Science,

sustainability development organised by FEE,

CEE and Wrigley’s (Federation for

Environmental Education) Centre for

Environment Education. The awarding

ceremony was at Lucknow, 1500 participated

from all over the Nation. Only 9 members

were selected as winners. CEE sponsored Air

tickets costing upto Rs 83,880 and Food and

accommodation (Rs16,500) and presented

Redmi 4X53 as prizes to the winners. A

Kindle and The Best Teacher Award- was

presented to Mrs. Grace Beena Paul. The

awarding ceremony came to an end with High

Tea. On 30th November 2017 there was a

wide coverage of the award ceremony in

Deccan Chronicle.

Orientation Programme – 10th Jul, 2017 An

orientation programme for I year UG students

was arranged in the auditorium to orient the

freshers on various activities conducted by

PEARL and to encourage them to be a part of

it.

On 8th August, 2017: The Pearl volunteers

along with the committee members visited the

Sadhana Home, an Institute for children with

special needs and celebrated the

Rakshabandhan festival with them .They tied

Rakhis and distributed sweets to them.

Nacharam Govt.school and finalized the

schedule of classes to be taken. It was

finalized that on every Friday from 2:00pm to

3:30 classes will be taken in the Maths,

Science, English and Second languages for

the 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th class students.

Girl Child Day : On 11th October 2017

PEARL volunteers visited the Wesley school

students and enacted a street play on the

importance of Girl Child and spoke to them

on various issues related to Girl Child.

Candle Making Workshop: From 14th to 18th

November 2017 pearl volunteers organized a

5 day workshop on candle making . It was

open to all the students of the college who

were interested to learn, around 150 students

participated with the volunteers got benefit

through this workshop

Fund Raising For Children’s Day

Celebrations: on 18th and 19th of November

2017 the candles which were prepared in the

workshop were sold by putting a stall in the

college.

Children’s Day Celebration: On 15th

November 2017 PEARL volunteers

conducted various competitions in the Wesley

Govt School and distributed prizes to the

winners.

Food Hygiene Practices Guidelines: On 31st

January Mrs.Nazia PEARl committee

member along with volunteers visited the

schools and spoke to the students regarding

personal hygiene and practices and gave them

various health tips for upcoming summer and

distributed Tang health drink to the students.

Personal Hygiene tips to students: On 9th

Feb 2017 Pearl Volunteers spoke to the Girl

Students exclusively on girl child issues and

gave tips on how to deal with them

confidently.

1. Extension activity “Medical camp” was

organized at MurukulaBasti, Nacharam in

association with Dept. of Arts as a part of

“Slum Adoption under ISR” on 28th January,

2018.

Share a Meal : On 14th March, 2018, students

from M.Sc. Microbiology and Biochemistry

along with Four faculty members visited

“DivyaDisha Orphanage” for girls at

Boduppal, Hyderabad for the “Share a Meal”

program. The students and staff of the two

departments contributed and provided lunch,

cakes and gifts for the inmates of the

orphanage. They also spent quality time with

the children.

‘Share a meal’- On 13th Jan ‘2018 five staff

members and 25 students of Department of

Chemistry, Zoology and Genetics visited

DivyaDisha Orphanage in Boduppal,

Hyderabad. They sponsored meal for the

inmates and distributed blankets, stationeries,

clothes, groceries and food items.

1. Campaign on Healthy lifestyle,

Campaign on Nutrition Date: 3/2/2018 at

Ambedkar Nagar Community Hall,

Nacharam

On 3/2/2018 3 Students of I.BSc BCMC

accompanied by 1 faculty member Miss

V.Rani Padmini presented posters on “7rules

for a healthy lifestyle” and “Nutrition” for the

NSS Volunteers in the morning session and to

the people of neighborhood in the afternoon

session. The neighborhood community

expressed their happiness for briefing out the

things about health and nutrition, and also

interacted with faculty and students about the

diet plans for some diseases like diabetes,

hypertension.

2. Share a meal - 14th March 2018

The faculty and students of The Departments

of Biochemistry and Microbiology Visited the

Divya Disha Home at Boduppal and shared a

meal with the inmates. The students also

interacted with the inmates entertained them

with songs and dances and distributed the

pencil pouches to them.

Department of Commerce

A two day employment development activity

was conducted on “Candle Making” from

14th to 18th November 2017 by Commerce

department along with the PEARL

committee.

On the third day the students put astall on

campus and sold those candles. The revenue

thus earned was donated to a government

school in Nacharam.

SHARE A MEAL

A Share a meal programme was organized on

24th February 2018.Thisprogramme involved

interaction with the 27 children living in

DIVYA DISHA orphanage. The lecturers and

students distributed food, sweets and

chocolates to children and played games with

them.

An ISR activity was organized on 18th April

to support slum areas. A total of 70 earthen

pots were distributed to the needy with an

intention to provide clean and cool drinking

water. 15 student volunteers from 1st and 2nd

B.Com along with Mrs Nagalaxmi, Mrs

Geetha and Mrs Malathi accompanied the

students for distributing the pots.

Genetics & Dept. of Chemistry organised

share a meal programme at Boduppal.5

MGC donated 25 blankets , stationary and

also dry fruits. Nutritious Lunch was provided

for 25 orphan girls at Divya Disha. Students

interacted and motivated them in the areas of

personal development, moral Values, Healthy

practices to maintain health and hygiene and

distributed 200 sanitary napkins. Girls from

DivyaDisha interacted and shared their

experience and problems with our students

and faculty.

Welfare Association, Tarnaka has organized

a community programme under

SwachBharath – Swach Hyderabad on 21st

January 2018. The programme was headed

by the corporator of Tarnaka Mrs.

Saraswathi, students & Faculty of department

of Sanskrit and Hindi. President and office

bearers of Nagarjuna Nagar Community

Welfare Association, House wives and others

have participated in the Swach Bharath

programme.

Dept. of Social Sciences: Slum support

activity : St.Pious College supports a slum at

(Murkulabasti, Mallapur, road no 15,

Hyderabad, Telangana) as a part of

Institutional Social Responsibility for which

the college comes up with many initiatives

and programmes. As a part of this, Social –

Sciences department has collected the

essential articles to donate for the needy. An

amount of 3000/- rupees was raised by the

Department through sale of Candles, Sweets

& Snacks, Saplings in Donation boxes. This

amount was used for purchase of books and

stationery. Along with cash, students also

generously contributed provisions, clothes and

edible items which were distributed at the

Slum. HOD Mrs. Malathi along with faculty,

Student council Members and 20 students

visited the slum and enlightened the children

on health and hygiene. They also entertained

the children with joyful moves. The children

were thrilled and overjoyed with their

presence and thanked them for their

generosity.

Department of Comp. Science

The institution has initiated an outreach

program called ‘Share a Meal’ withan aim to

fulfill the vision of the Institutional Social

Responsibility (ISR) throughits strategic

goals and objectives. The program is directed

towards supporting the well being of the

underprivileged students by providing meals

once a month to 24 girl students, at Divya

Disha Orphanage in Boduppal, Hyderabad.

To uphold the functioning of this program

throughout the year, each department whole

heartedly comes forward to render services

towards the achievement of this goal by

taking support from the students and faculty

of the department to provide a day’s meal to

the orphanage. The Department of Computer

Science and Physics visited Divya Dish a

organization on 21st December 2017.

collected contribution in the form of food

pulses, grains, eatables and cash before the

visit to share them with the under privileged

children. During their visit the students of the

departments had shared everything that was

collected and had participated in Christmas

celebrations were arranged for them. Many

games and activities were conducted to the

and gifts were presented to encourage them in

every talent they own. The children

exchanged their future plans and goals they

have set for their future and the department

helped them in guiding them the correct path

to reach their goals. The departments also

contributed an amount of Rs. 2523 to help the

needy and promised to extend the help

whenever necessary.
