The six outdoor gyms CityParks has already installedare wildly popular – andmore are on the way, prom-ises the new ManagingDirector for JohannesburgCity Parks and Zoo, Bu-lumko Nelana.Joburg residents have giventheir stamp of approval toCity Parks’ outdoor gyms, prompting the utility toadd the fitness equipmentto other parks. The six out-door green gyms includethe Mushroom Farm Parkin Sandton and DiepslootPark in the far north of thecity.”The outdoor gyms areenvironmentally friendly;are accessed at no cost;cater for people who areunable to afford gym mem-

Speakingabout the Outdoor GreenGyms, Nelana says: “CityParks is championing theinitiative. The long-termvision is to ensure that ev-ery flagship park in the cityis fitted with an outdoorgym to complement theexisting playground equip-

About the thinkingbehind this initiative, Nelanaexplains: “One of the out-comes of the Growth andDevelopment Strategy con-sultation was that residentswanted a liveable city thatencouraged family-friendlyrecreation.”The aim is toencourage the whole family, from gran and her senior citi-zen friends, to mum and dadand their teenage children, touse the exercise equipmentin the city’s trim parks whilethe younger children enjoythe traditional playgroundson offer,” he says. Dear Reader

Please read below for this new development in HIV/AIDS treatment:

The Minister of Health Aaron Motsoaledi has officiallyrolled out the new fixed dose combination (FDC) ofanti-retroviral recently at Phedisong Clinic, Garanku-wa in Pretoria after announcing the plan last year.Motsoaledi said the new treatment means that HIVpositive patients will now take only one tablet insteadof three twice a day.“We will ensure that we make available over 900, 000units around the country for the FDC-suitable patientsto easily access the treatment,” said Motsoaledi. The minister said pregnant women who are HIV posi-tive will be given the FDC and breast feeding motherswill continue with the treatment as well as after givingbirth if their CD4 count is less than 350, adding: “Thechild will stop taking the pill after six months.”Andrew Mosane who was the first patient to receive theFDC at Phedisong Clinic said: “Since 2009, I nevertook any HIV/Aids treatment, and this is my first one.It is a victory to me and to be the first patient to starttaking the three in one anti-retroviral pill.”

All I can say is: I welcome anything that will help fightthis pandemic.
