From Fabric J, cut:Six 4-1/2” x WOF strips; subcut �fty-seven 4-1/2“ square and cut three squares diagonally in half twice

From Fabric K, cut:Four 4-1/2” strips; subcut into four 4-1/2” x 8-1/2” pieces and thirteen 4-1/2“ squares; subcut one squares diagonally in half twice

Two 2” x WOF strips; subcut into three 2“ x 6-1/2” pieces, three 2“ x 3-1/2” pieces and twelve 2“ squares

From Fabric L, cut:Three 4-1/2” x WOF strips; subcut into six 4-1/2” x 8-1/2” pieces and twelve 4-1/2“ squares

From Fabric M, cut:Six 4-1/2” x WOF strips; subcut into six 4-1/2” x 8-1/2” pieces and forty-one 4-1/2“ squares; subcut one square diagonally in half twice

From Fabric N, cut:One 4-1/2” x WOF strip; subcut into two 4-1/2“ squares and cut diagonally in half twice; from remainder of strip cut seven 2” x 3-1/2“ pieces

Three 2” x WOF strips; subcut into seven 2” x 6-1/2” pieces and twenty-eight 2” squares

From Fabric O, cut: Ten 2-1/4” x WOF strips for binding

Make the Blocks 1. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of one 2” N square. Place the square, right sides together on one end of one 2” x 3-1/2” A piece as shown. Sew on the drawn line, trim seam allowance to 1/4”, and press open to make a leaf unit. Repeat to make a mirror image leaf unit.

2. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of one 2” N square. Place square right sides together on one end of a 2” x 3-1/2” A piece as shown. Sew on

the drawn line, trim seam allowance to 1/4”, and press open. Repeat on the opposite end to make a �ying geese unit.

3. Sew the �ying geese unit to one 2” x 3-1/2” N piece, and then sew the leaf and mirror image leaf units to opposite sides.

4. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of one 1-1/2” A square. Place square right sides tgoether on one corner of a 2” x 6-1/2” N piece. Sew on the drawn line, trim seam allowance to 1/4”, and press open. Repeat on the adjoining corner as shown. Sew to the bottom of the unit from step 3. Sew one 1” x 6-1/2” A piece to the top.

5. Sew 2” x 5-1/2” A pieces to opposite sides of the unit from step 4 to complete a pineapple top measuring 9-1/2” x 5-1/2”.

6. In the same manner, make a total of three each B/A and K/A, four C/A, �ve E/A, and seven N/A pineapple tops.

7. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of one 4-1/2” E square. Place the marked square on a 4-1/2” G square. Stitch 1/4” on either side of the drawn line, cut on the drawn line, and press HST units open. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of one HST unit, perpendicular to the seam line. Position the marked HST on an unmarked HST with contrasting fabrics touching. Sew 1/4” on either side of the drawn line, cut on the drawn line and press QST units open. Square up QST units to measure 3-1/2” square. Make a total of nine QST units.

8. In the same way, make one additional E/G HST. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of one 3-7/8” A square. Position the marked square right sides together on the E/G HST, with the marked line perpendicular to the seam line. Sew 1/4” on either side of the drawn line, cut on the drawn line and press the E/G/A corner units open. Trim each unit to measure 3-1/2” square.

9. To make the E/G/N unit, lay out two 4-1/2” E triangles, one 4-1/2” G triangle, and one 4-1/2” N triangle as shown. Sew the triangles into pairs, and join the pairs to make a QST stem unit. Trim unit to measure 3-1/2” square.

10. Lay out two corner units, one QST stem unit, and nine QST units into four rows of three units each. Sew the units into rows and join the rows.

11. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of one 2” A square. Lay the square right sides togeth-er on the bottom left corner of the pineapple unit. Stitch on the drawn line, trim seam allowance to 1/4”, and press open. Repeat on the right bottom corner to complete the 9-1/2” x 12-1/2” pineapple top.

12. Sew the pineapple top and bottom units together. Sew 1-1/2” x 17-1/2” A pieces to both sides to complete the pineapple block. Block should measure 11-1/2” x 17-1/2”.

13. Repeat steps 7-13 to make the following blocks: three each D/J/K, F/J/B and F/J/N blocks, four each E/G/N and F/M/C blocks, and �ve I/G/E blocks as shown.

Assemble the Quilt 1. Sew �ve 2-1/2” x WOF A strips short ends together and cut three 66-1/2” lengths. 2. Referring to the Quilt Assembly Diagram, lay out �ve pineapple blocks and two 6” x 17-1/2” A pieces into a #1 row. Make two. 3. Lay out six pineapple blocks into a #2 row. Make two. 4. Sew the rows together alternating with three 66-1/2” A strips. 5. Sew the eight 3-1/2” x WOF A strips short ends together. Cut two 74-1/2” lengths and two 72-1/2” lengths. Sew the longer strips to the sides of the quilt. Sew the shorter strips to the top and bottom. 6. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of two 4-1/2” A squares. Position a marked square on one end of a 4-1/2” x 8-1/2” L piece. Stitch on the drawn line, trim 1/4” past the stitch line, and press open. Repeat on the opposite end to make a �ying geese unit.

E/G/N F/J/N F/J/B

7. Make a total of thirty-four �ying geese units: two each C/A, E/A and F/A, four K/A, and six each H/A, I/A, L/A and M/A. 8. In the same way as step 7 of Making the Blocks, make four A/C HST units using 5” squares and four A/F HST units using 5” squares. Trim HST units to measure 4-1/2” square.

9. Sew together nine �ying geese units and two HST units as shown in the Quilt Layout Diagram to make a side pieced border. Make two. In the same way, sew together eight �ying geese units, two HST units, one 4-1/2“ C square and one 4-1/2” F square to make a top/bottom pieced border. Sew the side pieced borders to the sides of the quilt and the remaining pieced borders to the top and bottom. 10. Sew the nine 2-1/2” x WOF A strips short ends together into a long strip. Cut two 88-1/2” lengths and two 84-1/2” lengths. Sew the longer strips to the sides of the quilt. Sew the remaining strips to the top and bottom. 11. Referring to the Quilt Assembly Diagram, sew together twenty-three assorted 4-1/2” squares to make a side border. Make two. Sew to the sides of the quilt. Sew together twenty-three assorted 4-1/2” squares to make a top/bottom border. Make two. sew to the top and bottom of the quilt.

Finishing Lay the backing right side down, batting and quilt top right side up. Baste the layers together and quilt as desired. Use the ten 2-1/4” x 42” O strips to bind the quilt.
