Out of this world! Are you ready to explore your imagination and creativity above and beyond the world as we know it? Summer artistswill create original works of art while learning exciting techniquesand exploring different types of media. Activities will include sculpture, painting, drawing, and other hands-on experiences.

Students will explore the world of predator/prey relationships.Investigations deal with animal adaptations that enable organisms to survive -- or not. Come join in the hunt: learn how to eat like a bird andsee what’s been eaten, and discover how the power of camouflage translates to survival in the wild. Week One only

Students will spend time reflecting, detecting and erecting devices that demonstrate the power of the sun and UV rays. Put your mind behindcreative designs and practice your architectural skills. Get ready to turnup the heat while working on some “cool” activities this summer. Week Two only.

SPORTS CAMPS

Lacrosse Camp Grades 1 – 8 Weeks 1 & 2

Sticks up! Keep on checking! Lacrosse Camp is the perfect place to learn the fundamentals of the action-packedgame of lacrosse. It is designed for beginners who are interested in learning about the game and developing theirindividual and team skills.

The program will focus on developing stick skills such as cradling, catching, throwingand shooting, as well as introduce offensive and defensive concepts specific to thesport of either boys or girls lacrosse. No equipment necessary; all you need to bring isenergy and lacrosse excitement!

The boys’ coach will be Doug Shanahan, former professional lacrosse player with the ChicagoMachine and Pine Crest Varsity Head LacrosseCoach; the girls will be coached by Eileen Pliske,Director of the Pine Crest Girls Lacrosse Program andVarsity Lacrosse Head Coach.

Girls and Boys Basketball

Panther Basketball Camp prides itself on teachingyoung boys and girls the fundamentals of the game. Theprogram will focus on developing team play andimproving individual skills, as well as increasing sportsmanship. Each day will include teaching stations,individual competition, team play, and a daily focusdetailing the proper mechanics of ball-handling, shooting form, passing, and defensive techniques.Campers will be challenged in a spirited and competitive environment. Baseball Camp Grades 4 – 9 Weeks 1 & 2

What’s more summer than baseball? Pine Crest Summer BaseballCamp! In addition to teaching core batting, pitching, catching, andfielding skills, Baseball Camp will provide training in team play andgame strategy. Coaches will use innovative techniques to teach boysentering Grades 4 - 9 how to combine solid skills instruction with thefun of learning the great game of baseball.

Future Stars Football Camp Grades 4 – 9 Weeks 1 & 2

Pass! Run! Kick! Panther Future Stars Football Camp, a non-contactprogram, teaches boys from all schools who are entering Grades 4-9the fundamentals and fun of playing the game of football. Studentswill be instructed daily in small groups with positional work related tooffense, defense, and special teams. Daily games and special competitions will highlight teamwork and skills. Experienced PineCrest coaches will enhance student learning and love of the gamethrough a low camper/coach ratio. Join the Future Stars team today!

Volleyball Camp Grades 4 – 9 Weeks 1 & 2

Panther Volleyball Camp teaches the fun and fundamentals of the game to girls entering Grades 4 – 9. Activities focus on developing individual skillsand team play. Each day will include time at teaching stations to learn passing, setting, spiking,and serving. Then the girls will have the opportunityto use these skills in fun and challenging games.Come join us for one or two weeks of volleyball fun!

Rowing Camp: Learn to Row Grades 6 – 12 Weeks 1 - 4

Rowing down the river! Open to students from all schools who will be entering Grades 6 – 12 in the fall. This camp is designed to introducecampers to the sport of rowing. This half-day, one or two-week campwill include land and water instruction emphasizing safety, properboat handling skills, fundamental rowing techniques, teamwork, andphysical conditioning. Water safety is stressed, and campers must beable to swim. Rowing camp will be coached by the Pine Crest coaching staff, who have extensive experience introducing beginnersto the fun and excitement of the sport of rowing. Returning camperswill be given advanced instruction.PE credit available for Upper School.*

High Performance Grades 9 – 12 Weeks 2 - 6Competitive Rowing Camp

This five-week camp is designed to prepare rowers with at least one year of experience tocompete at the Club National ChampionshipRegatta in Indianapolis. The program will featurecollegiate guest coaches and the opportunity toinclude SAT test preparation each day. The coaching staff will provide sweep and scullinginstruction with experience racing in eights,fours, and doubles. Enrollment is limited.

Ages: Students entering Grades 9 – 12 who have at least one year of rowing experienceDates: June 13 – July 17Cost: $2,800 - includes instruction and Regatta expenses (transportation, hotel, and race entry fees).

SAT preparation: $950 for math and verbal.

Summer Dance Grades 2 – 12 Weeks 1 & 2

Dance Level I is for beginning level students entering Grades 2-5.Includes ballet, tap, and jazz. Half-day morning program. May combinewith Art Institute or Tennis.Dance Level II is for intermediate students entering Grades 5-8.Includes ballet, pointe or pre-pointe, variations, and additional dance styles.Dance Level III is for advanced students entering Grade 7 and up.Includes ballet, pointe, variations, and additional dance styles.

Dance - Expeditions

Expeditions Grades 1 – 5 Weeks 7 & 8

Where are you going this summer? To Pine Crest! Journey withus to exciting locations, learn about cultures around the world,and have creative fun without leaving campus as we explore theworld with an artistic point of view. We will create craft projects,explore movement and music, make stories, and build memoriesin this two week program. Open to students from all schools whoare entering Grades 1-5 in the fall. Limited bus service available.

upon successful completion of a full two-week session of Rowing Camp, Tennis Camp, Swim Camp, or Summer Dance.

This graded option includes some assignments and assessments. Students who complete this option will be scheduled for a

study hall instead of Physical Education class for one quarter of the year. (Attendance in Health class one day per week is

required for that quarter. Replacement of PE with a study hall does not reduce the basic tuition fee.)

Tennis Camp Grades PK – 10 Weeks 1 - 9

Play tennis and have a ball! Tennis lovers from all schools

who are ages 4 - 16 will take their places on the ten Pine

Crest courts. Beginners will learn the fundamentals of

tennis and basic stroke techniques in small groups; more

advanced players will work on fitness, drills, and match

play. During supervised free time, campers may choose to

swim, watch a movie, play in the game room, or

continue practicing their tennis. Snacks, drinks, and lunch

are included. Bus service and extended day are available at

an additional cost.

High Performance Tennis Camp Grades 3 – 12 Weeks 1 - 9

Game, set, match! The serious advanced player will have the

opportunity to train under the supervision of a USTA High

Performance coach. Fitness will be emphasized along with

innovative drills and match play. This program is open to all

tennis juniors interested in taking their game to the next level.

Lunch is included. Bus service is available for an additional

cost.

Summer School - SAT PrepSummer School Grades 9 – 12 Weeks 1 - 7

Think you might miss learning new things over the summer? Pine Crest

Summer School offers enrichment and credit courses across the

curriculum for students from all schools who are entering Grades

9 – 12. From the popular Ethics class to full-year work in math,

English, and world language, Summer School provides an opportunity

for students to earn credit and prepare for more advanced work in

the fall.

SAT Preparation at Pine Crest Grades 10 – 12 Weeks 2 - 5

Aim for the best and prepare with the best in the Pine Crest SAT

Preparation courses in Reading and Writing Skills and Math Skills.

Open to students from all schools who will be entering Grades 10 – 12,

these two-week classes include specialized instruction in a

small-group setting, test-taking strategies, and practice tests.

Competitive Swimming Ages 9 – 17 Weeks 2 - 8Overnight & Day CampOur premiere summer swim program. Spend two to seven weeks with us, and we will help you attain new heightsin the pool. Our training program and coaches have one primary objective - to make a significant impact on yourswimming. If you are a competitive swimmer, this camp will take you to the next level.

Rising Star Swimming and Dive Day Camp Ages 3 – 12 Weeks 1 - 8 The perfect opportunity for kids who love to be in the pool! Instructional time is split between swimming instruction and diving instruction. Great for the child who wants to participate in more than one summer activity.

Experienced Pine Crest teachers will guide children through project-based learning activities,where the focus is on the child as an active participant. The main components of this program are reading, math, and creative writing.Research and study skills will be reinforced where appropriate. Theclassroom strategies will consist of open-ended questioning and discovery. This program is for new and returning Pine Crest students.Class size will be limited, so enroll early!

Art Grades K – 5

What color is your imagination? Summer

Art offers students the chance to explore

their imagination and creativity through a

variety of projects. Summer artists will

make original works of art while learning

exciting techniques and using different kinds

of media. Activities will include

sculpture, painting, drawing, and other

Science: Discover and Learn Grades 1-3

Join us for an adventurous

afternoon in the science lab. The

children will participate in a

variety of experiments involving

Skill Builders Grades 2-5

Skill Builder for Grades 2 and 3: Meets individual needs for reading,language, and math skills. The students refresh last year’s skills inpreparation for the upcoming fall. Building around a common theme,students are involved in research, reading, and writing. As studentsreceive intensive practice in spelling, writing, reading, and math, theygain the confidence to begin the year with the skills they will need toget them off to a strong start. They also familiarize themselves withschool procedures, make new friends, and meet teachers.

Language Arts for Grades 4 and 5: The Write Stuff! Learn how mastery of language arts basics leads to better written expression. Using the Six-Trait Writing Model, students will learn how to develop competency in the areasof ideas and content, word choice, fluency, voice, organization, and conventions. Breaking down each trait into manageable parts will help students develop skills they can use for a lifetime.

Math for Grades 4 and 5: Jump start your math! Small groups rotate through math activity stations using games,manipulatives, and teacher-led activities. Computers are used to reinforce math skills and concepts. Near the endof each day the class will come together in a whole group activity covering skills or concepts in geometry, measurement, or probability through hands-on projects.

Strings in the Afternoon Grades K – 5 Week 10 Only

Calling all violins, violas, and cellos! If you are a strings player – or ifyou would like to become one – Strings in the Afternoon is the programfor you. Pine Crest Strings conductor Deena Shapiro will direct theone-week session. It combines master class and small group instruction with ensemble playing and musical games and crafts.Strings in the Afternoon welcomes children who have never played aninstrument as well as those who have strings experience. A limitednumber of instruments will be available for rental. Please be sure tospecify playing level on the Registration Form for appropriate groupplacement: Beginning (never played a string instrument), Intermediate(playing 1 –2 years), Advanced (playing 3 years or more).

Beginning Band Camp Grades 4 - 6 Week 11 Only

Toot your own horn! This course is especially tailored for studentsentering 4th, 5th, or 6th grades who want to be able to say proudly,“I’m with the band!” Over the course of five morning sessions, students will have the opportunity to experience band instrumentshands-on through listening, demonstration, playing, and experimentation. With the help of instructors, students will be betterequipped to select an instrument for study by the end of the final session. With instruments selected and obtained by the first day ofschool, the Band will be off to a great start!

The Middle School Preview gives students an opportunity torefresh and sharpen their skills in math, English, technology,and world languages just before the new school year begins.Each student will be challenged by our quality of course contentand academic independence in a casual summer environment.Students in Preview will be able to start the school year at fullspeed. These classes are particularly helpful to students who arenewly enrolled at Pine Crest.

Upper School Preview Grades 9 – 12 Weeks 10 & 11

The Upper School Preview provides an opportunity to reviewand preview critical skills in English, math, and technologyjust before the new school year begins. This program is particularly helpful to students who are newly enrolled at PineCrest. It also gives returning students a chance to get ready tostart the new school year at their best. Classes focus on preparation for challenging courses and academic independence in a casual summer environment. Preview helpsstudents master their summer reading assignments and brushup on math skills and concepts. It also provides an overviewof the technology skills they will need to succeed in PineCrest’s wireless laptop environment.

Video Boot Camp Grades 6 - 12 Weeks 10 & 11

Exercise creativity and build technical skills in this two-week workoutfor budding filmmakers. Students will become proficient in cameraand camcorder use, film editing software and learn the process of storyboarding, script writing and on camera improvisation. Teams willcreate original short film projects demonstrating a variety of topic formats. Digital cameras and camcorders will be provided for student use.

Middle School Keyboarding Grades 6 - 8 Weeks 10 & 11

NEW! Panther Press Studio Grades 6 - 12 Weeks 10 & 11

Ink it up! Welcome to Panther Press Studio, where studentsexplore their creativity using basic concepts in printmaking. Projects will include monotypes, linoleumblock stamps, and solar plate etching. Students will investigate a wide range of tools, from ink rollers, woodenspoons, and rice paper to using our etching press and photosensitized metal plates, where images are developed outside using sunlight. This course will also provide a historical overview of printmaking and showhow famous artists from Rembrandt to Picasso createdgraphic works of art.

Instructor Ron Garrett, a veteran of the Visual Arts department at Pine Crest, will guide students in this enriching and hands-on approach to making art in a relaxedstudio environment. Space is limited. No experience necessary; all you need is a desire to ink it up and makebeautiful prints.
