Reasons to go on Pilgrimage…. - People believe that a special event has taken place in a certain place – eg: Mary appearing in Lourdes and Fatima. - People believe that it will bring them closer to God in their faith – such as walking the footsteps of Christ in Jerusalem, the Garden of Gethsemane. - Some places of pilgrimage have been known to be places of healing – such as in Lourdes with the holy water, there have been many cases of miracles which have happened there. A Pilgrimage is a journey undertaken to a holy place as an act of devotion. The place of pilgrimage is a particular location, usually connected with the life of Christ in the Holy Land, or of a Saint, or of an apparition to the Virgin Mary. ‘Pilgrimages evoke our earthly journey toward heaven and are traditionally very special occasions for renewal in prayer.’ CCC 2691 Catechism evidence Marian Devotion is about celebrating and thanking Mother Mary. Many Christians have been doing this for over 700 years. She is known as Mother because she is the Mother of Jesus and the adopted Mother for all and the Church. Her life is celebrated in October and May. This is done with devotions, crowning, processions and saying the Rosary. Marian Devotion - May Devotions: Special Hymns are sun. Flowers are laid in a line leading up to the church. Festivals can be held to celebrate- they can be called Marian Festivals. - Crowning; this is when Catholics place a crown of flowers on statues of Mary. This is offered as a part of respect, handmade to represent her queenship. It is a time of growth.. - Processions: Carrying flowers in a line, singing hymns and saying prayers. Walking through town together to the shrine or church where the crowning f Mary would happen. - The Rosary. It is a planned prayer that is accompanied by a prayer aid- a set of beads. It has five decades (sets of 10). Each Decade has a set of prayers; the Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be. Each decade has a story or a mystery which remembers the life of Jesus Christ and of his Blessed Mother Mary. There are 4 types of Mysteries represented in the Rosary: 1. The Joyful Mysteries (Mary) 2. The Luminous Mysteries 3. The sorrowful Mysteries(Jesus) 4. The Glorious Mysteries.
