PIERRE DE PALMAS illustration and painting

Since the late 90’s, Pierre de Palmas has been working as painter and illustrator, learning the craft by himself. Focusing on two techniques and two different approaches to art.

In the black and white illustrations, often destined to album cov-er art and concert posters... The esthethic is set in the grindcore scene (which he had close links with from elaborating his website, Braindead Zine) dealing with themes like violence, body horror, animal liberation, etc... With a favored drawing technique (stip-pling) especially inspired by the work of Jeff Walker (Napalm Death’s “Scum” or early Carcass inserts, Carnage)...

In his paintings (acrylics, oil or watercolors), Pierre takes a major inspiration in italian cinema, from the movies of Mario Bava and Dario Argento in particular, their lighting and color schemes, as well as the style of genre poster art. These films’ influence feed his imagination. With painting as medium, he explores an artis-tic language, vector of dreams and nightmares, translating fear, death and suffering into images...
