RE: Playground Enhancement to Pier 60 Park
Dear Mayor Cretekos and Members of the Clearwater City Council:
On May 06, 2013 the Clearwater Neighborhoods Coalition (CNC) heard from a representative from the Clearwater Beach
Association (CBA) that spoke about a proposed playground enhancement to Pier 60 Park. The representative said that i
was the opinion of many beach residents as well as members of the CBA that this enhancement was not needed. The
representative asked for support in opposing this project.
Having heard from the CBA representative and after a discussion that included expenditures exceeding any possiblebenefits of this enhancement, the members of the CNC voted unanimously to oppose this project. During our discussion
we reminded ourselves of how city leaders have told us on numerous occasions that Clearwater just does not have funds
for unnecessary projects. Building a $330,000.00 playground enhancement with a life span of 12 to 15 years on a world
class beach; and with many residents opposing this project should certainly rise to the level of an unnecessary project.
On behalf of the CNC it is our hope that you will reconsider the merits and benefits of this project and conclude it to be
deemed unnecessary. We are seeking your vote to abandon the playground enhancement project.
Sincerely,
Clearwater Neighborhoods Coalition
Carl Schrader
