Welcome to the Pick and Pack delta course for SAP Business One release 9.1 .You must have a good knowledge of the Pick and Pack process in order to fullyunderstand the contents of this course.

OEC Computers resells computers and electronic equipment to retailers in the UK. Inaddition, OEC Computers also assembles computers that are combined from differentcomponents like hard disks, memory cards and cases.

George is the warehouse manager of OEC Computers. He and his SAP Business Oneconsultant, have already implemented pick and pack processes in the company. Now,George wants to include the pick and pack process also for production. He would liketo create a pick list for the components required for production.

In addition, OEC Computers manages bin locations in their warehouse and Georgewould like to create pick lists for transferring goods from one bin location to the other.

The enhancements introduced in release 9.1 provide a solution for OEC Computer’sneeds.

The pick and pack enhancements introduced in 9.1 enable users to processproduction orders and inventory transfer requests in the Pick and Pack manager.In addition it is also possible to create and view pick lists directly from productionorders and inventory transfers.The main benefits deriving from these enhancements are:• Using pick lists to collect goods for production and inventory transfer.• Saving time by creating inventory transfers and issue for production for a batch of

documents.• And also the ability to create pick lists instantly for a specific document.

This slide summarize the main differences between 9.0 and 9.1 in the Pick and Packmodule.The main improvement introduced in 9.1, in the Pick and Pack module, is the ability toprocess production orders and inventory transfer request documents.This improvement also includes the ability to create inventory transfer, inventorytransfer request and production order documents, in the Pick and Pack Manger, basedon different document types.In addition, it is now possible to also process non-inventory item document rows in thepick and pack manager and thus creating new documents including these rows.And lastly, it is also possible to split pick list by different parameters including businesspartner, document data and item data.In the next slide we will cover these changes in more details but first let us see how thepick and pack process is combined with the production process.

In the image you can see a general description of the pick and pack process used forproduction at OEC Computers.Starting from 9.1, OEC Computers can generate pick lists to pick items needed fortheir production process.Once a day, George opens to the Pick and Pack Manager, selects the productionorder rows and creates pick lists.The components are then picked and taken to the shop floor area.Then, the production manager creates an Issue for Production document, from thePick and Pack Manager, in order to withdraw the components in production frominventory.Finally, after production is complete, the production manager adds a Receipt fromProduction document to add the final product to inventory.Note that for items using the backflush method, the process does not include creatingan Issue for Production document.

• OEC Computers has integrated the pick and pack process for inventory transfers aswell.

• Since OEC Computers manages bin locations in their warehouse, George issuesmany Inventory Transfer documents to transfer goods from one bin location to theother.

• When transferring items from different areas in the warehouse, George first createsInventory Transfer Request documents and then in the Pick and Pack Manager, heselects the inventory transfer request rows and creates pick lists.

• George splits the pick lists by the warehouse sublevels and assigns each pick list to awarehouse employee.

• After the goods are picked, George creates an Inventory Transfer document in the Pickand Pack Manager, based on the picked rows from the inventory transfer request.

• In the next slides we will see the enhancements made in the Pick and Pack Managerto enable generating pick lists for production and inventory transfer processes.

We are about to view the main changes made in the Pick and Pack manager:• We will see the new selection criteria window with additional options.• Then, we will see the new columns added to the three pick and pack drawers.• After that we will see the new options to split pick lists.• And finally we will look at the new options for creating documents within the Pick

and Pack Manager.

The pick and pack selection criteria window now includes the production orders andinventory transfer requests. You can choose one or more of the relevant documenttypes to be included in the Pick and Pack Manager.Then you can choose additional filtering options and enter From and To values foreach choice.Note that the filtering options change according to the chosen document type.Another important change is the ability to choose a user defined field (UDF) as a filter.In our business example, OEC Computers has added a UDF field to the productionorder to indicate which shop floor is to be used. When George wants to create picklists for a particular shop floor, he filters the production orders by the shop floor field.Note that it is possible to choose UDF fields from all other documents chosen in theselection criteria.

Two new columns were added to the document rows grid of the Open, Released andPicked draws, to receive all information relevant for inventory transfer requests andproduction orders:• The first one is the To Warehouse column, relevant for the Inventory Transfer

Request document rows.• The second is the Issue Method column, relevant for Production Order document

rows. The Issue Method field indicates if the item is backflushed or not. This valueis later used to determine if an issue for production can be created for these items.We discuss this in more detail later in the course.

A number of new options for splitting pick lists are available that provide additionalflexibility in pick list generation.In release 9.1, you can additionally split pick lists by business partner, document type,specific document, item group and item.In our business scenario, George splits pick lists according to Document Typebecause this field indicates the destination for the items at the end of the pickingprocess. For example, items from production orders are moved to the shop floor areaand items from sales orders are moved to the packing area. This facilitates theprocess of picking and transferring items from multiple orders to the appropriatedestination area simultaneously.

The Create button in the Pick and Pack Manager allows us to create different types ofdocuments for selected rows in the Pick and Pack Manager and in the Pick List document

In release 9.1, the Create button contains new options for creating documents.

In addition to creating invoices and delivery documents it is now possible to create InventoryTransfer Request, Inventory Transfer and Issue for Production documents.

In order to create new documents, you first choose the relevant document rows from the list,then choose the Create button and choose the relevant option. Once you do that, a newdocument is opened and all relevant data is drawn from the base document rows to the newtarget document.

We already saw there are new options for creating documents from the Create button.Different document rows can be copied to different Create option documents.The table shown here lists the options available and the base document rows that can be usedto create the new document.For example, issue for production can be added based on production order rows only. The usercan only choose rows that are indicated as backflush items.When trying to create new documents based on document rows that are not relevant for thattype of document, the system prompts a relevant error message.The Items/ Components Transfer create option is also new in 9.1. Choosing this optiongenerates an Inventory Transfer document. The main difference between the Items/Components Transfer option and the Inventory Transfer option is the purpose of each createddocument. While the Inventory Transfer option purpose is to complete the process initiated bythe inventory transfer request, the purpose of the Items/ Components Transfer option is totransfer goods to a picking area.Note that when creating an inventory transfer from any document other than inventory transferrequest, the warehouse and bin location information is copied to both the from and towarehouse and bin location fields. The user can then change the content of these fieldsmanually.

Up to release 9.1, you could only process document rows with inventory items in thePick and Pack Manager.In real life, non-inventory items such as technician or support fees, often appear insales documents.In 9.1, non-inventory item document rows lines can be processes in the Pick and PackManager.These document rows can be included in pick lists and can be copied to a delivery orinvoice via the Create option.Note that non-inventory items cannot be cannot be copied to an inventory transferdocument.

Generating a pick list directly from a specific document can be a quick option to handlethe picking of that one document.Before release 9.1, it was possible to generate pick lists directly from only salesorders.In release 9.1 this functionality was extended to inventory transfer request, productionorders and reserve invoices.Right-click the mouse on one of these documents, to open the context menu andchoose one of the following options:• Generate Pick List - This option generates a pick list for the open document

quantity.• View Pick Lists – This option opens any existing pick lists related to that document.

• In our business scenario, George uses this option when a pick list is needed urgentlyinstead of using the Pick and Pack Manager. After the inventory transfer request orproduction order is added, George generates a pick list directly from the document. Allrelevant data from the document is then copied to the pick list. Then he reviews thecontent of the pick list and adds it.
