One of 100 copies on Arches wove of a total edition of 110. Each copy

is inscribed with a different handwritten proverb by Louis

Aragon, in lieu of his signature, and is numbered in ink by Aragon.

This book includes five sonnets from “Il Canzoniere” conceived

and written by Francesco Petrarca after the death of his beloved

Laura on 1348.

Picasso's etching for the book is a beautiful oval face surrounded by

flowing hair, representing the idealized portrait of Laura.

the homage of Louis Aragon to Elsa

Triolet, a Russian he met in 1928 after a suicide

attempt, and who changed his life.
