COURSE DESCRIPTION
• This full year course offers students instruction in piano keyboard and the fundamentals of music including basic skills in notation, ear training, aural dictation and sight singing.
COURSE OBJECTIVES • The students will be able to
identify, notate and perform (clap, sing and play)
Course Content
Scales and Key Signatures
• Identification and notation of Major and minor scales on the grand staff using accidentals.
• Performance (playing and singing) of major and minor scales
• Performance (playing and singing with solfege syllables) the chromatic scale
• Identification and notation of major and minor key signatures
• Reproduction of the Circle of Fifths
Technology• Students will use the Sibelius notation
software to write, edit and compose music.
• Other software in use: Musition (theory), Auralia (ear training)
Assessment• Dictation• Piano Performance in class• Journal (all written material – tests, projects, research
papers, oral presentations)• Sight-singing• Ear Training • Written Tests & Quizzes• Oral Challenge (student must be able to explain his/her
work)• Original Compositions on Sibelius & manuscript
