PIANO VACANCY The United States Naval Academy Band is seeking a versatile pianist to perform in commercial, jazz, and classical styles. Auditions will be held on Monday, July 18, 2016. The audition committee reserves the right to dismiss any candidate not meeting the highest professional standards. To be considered for an audition, applicants will submit a one-page resume by July 1, 2016 to MU1 Emily Madsen at [email protected]. Additional materials are not necessary and will not be viewed. All travel arrangements and expenses are the responsibility of the candidate. Active duty musicians from all branches of the U.S. military must also send a letter of endorsement from their Commanding Officer granting them permission to audition for the Naval Academy Band. In order to accept a position with the Naval Academy Band, the audition winner must also qualify for enlistment in the United States Navy and successfully complete Recruit Training. A minimum of a four-year enlistment is required. The Navy has strict height and weight requirements. PIANO VACANCY

SUBMIT RESUME BY JULY 1, 2016

PREPARED MATERIAL:

1. Classical solo/etude of Candidate’s choice.

2. Emily: Mandel and Mercer

3. Litha: Chick Corea

4. Just Friends: Be able to play in all keys.

5. Con Alma: arr. Mossman - Read part, 54 to end

6. Sailor’s Song: Edvard Greig

7. Medley of conservative solo piano dinner music: Include the following two selections and others of your choice:

Nancy with the Laughing Face: Jimmy Van Heusen

Norwegian Wood: Lennon and McCartney

8. Sweet Home Alabama: Lynyrd Skynyrd, play exactly as recorded.

9. Ballad: Candidate’s choice. Please provide lead sheets.

10. Chromazone - Mike Stern, play the melody with sax until letter E, then continue as a rhythm section player

11. Optional: Original arrangement to be played with jazz combo. Please provide in advance.
