    Light

    Key words :

White light :The light that comes from sun

Absorb : When the object doesn’t reflect the light

Reflect : When the ray of light bounces off an

    object and changes its direction

1- Does the plant leaf absorb or reflect green light ?

    The leaf reflects green light

2- Does the plant leaf absorb or reflect blue light ?

    The leaf absorbs blue light

3- What color of light does a yellow banana reflect?

    The banana reflects yellow light

4- If you take a photo of a white piece of paper in a

forest, the paper will look green in the photo.

Why?Because it reflects all light colors so it reflects green

color from the forest and appear green

5- Why do you see the class board white?

Because white materials reflect all light colors

6- The coal piece looks black, why?Because black materials absorb all colors and don’t

    reflect any light color.

7- What is the color produces from mixing the

seven colored rays?White color results from mixing the seven colors

8- When we expose a banana to green light its

color will appear black, because the yellow

materials absorb all colors and reflects yellow only.

So when it’s exposed to green color the banana

absorbs it and reflects nothing so appears black.

    LightKey words :

Translucent : A material that light can travel

through, but which you cannot see through clearly

Screen : A flat surface that an image appears on

    Pinhole camera:

How to make your camera ?

1- Take the lid of the box so you can see inside

2- Make a small hole in the middle of on end the

    box.

3- On the other end of the box , cut most of theend away

4- Paint the inside of the box and the lid black, and

stick tinfoil in front of the pinhole . This will

    improve your camera

5- Stick a sheet of translucent paper over the end

that you have cut away. This will be the screen

6- Put the lid on the box . your camera is ready to

use, Look at some objects on the screen

7- Describe the images you see on the screen :

    Worksheet (5) Light Reflection

Key words :Light reflection : The light beam bounce when

    hitting with a surface

Incident ray : The light ray which hit the mirror

Reflected ray : the light ray reflected from the

    mirror

    * Reflection law :

The reflection angle is (more than – less than –

    equal to) the incidence angle

    * Compare between specular reflection and

    diffuse reflection :

    * Explain :

All students in the class can see the diagram on the

board? The light comes from the source/data-show

is reflected off the screen/board and enters

students eyes forming an image on their retina

which is transferred into their brain through the

    optic nerve.

    Worksheet (7)Light Refraction

    Key words :

Light refraction : The change of the angle of a ray

of light when it moves between two transparent

    materials

Transparent : A material that light can travel

    through

Optical density : The ability of the material to

    refract light beam

When a ray of light move between two different

transparent materials the speed of light changes

and the angle of the straight ray of light will change

    * There are three cases of refraction according to

the optical density of the transparent materials

1- When the ray travels from air (lower optical

density) to water (higher optical density), the ray

refracts (approaching or away from) the normal

2- When the ray travels from water (higher optical

density) to air (lower optical density), the ray

refracts (approaching or away from) the normal

3- When the ray moves vertically between two

transparent materials it doesn’t deviate and pass

    without refraction

    * Complete the following figures :

    * Why we see objects under water above the real

    position ?

Because of light refraction as in the next figure

    * Write true or false for each of the following :

1- Refraction is most obvious when you look

directly down through the water [×]

2- Refraction is most obvious when you are looking

    Splitting White light

    * What are the colors that white light made of ?ROYG BIP (Red –  Orange –  Yellow –  Green –  Blue –  Indigo –  Purple)

    Explain:*

White light splits into seven colors when it passes

    through a glass prism

    * Why can we see rainbow on rainy days?

Because rain droplets act as small prisms which refract

and split white light into spectrum of 7 lights“rainbow” (see the previous question)
