Feeding a baby It is recommended that a baby mainly has breast milk for the
first year When feeding a baby with a bottle, hold the baby upright in a
semi tight position Support the babies head and neck Hold the bottle at an angle Test the temperature of the milk on your arm before you feed it
to the baby It should feel luke warm, not hot Throw away extra formula, bacteria can grow in left over
formula
Introducing new foodsAfter 6 months you can introduce “solids” Baby may spit out food because it is unfamiliar Hold the baby in a up right positionUsually cereal, then rice, then oatmeal, then
fruits and veggies

drinking out of a cup
Self feeding When babies sit up, they can feed themselves
using their fingersTo encourage this, provide finger foods
Cut into small pieces Easy to break up and no chewing Give the baby just a few pieces at a timeStay away from peanut butter, milk, whole grapes,
candy, nuts

How to swaddle a baby
1. Lay the baby on a flat surface and fold down the top-right corner about 6 inches2. Place your baby on his back with his head on the fold3. Pull the corner near your baby’s left hand across his body, and tuck the leading edge under his back on the right side under the arm4. Pull the bottom corner up under your baby’s chin5. Bring the loose corner over your baby’s right arm and tuck it under the back on his left side. If your baby prefers to have his arms free, you can swaddle him under the arms.

buttocks and the other under the shoulders. Use your forearm to support the neck and head as your raise your hands together to lift the newborn
Bathing a baby Can’t feed right after feeding Newborns are given a sponge bath for the first two weeks Make sure the water is between 70-80 degrees Remove baby’s clothes and put a towel on the baby Wash the babies face with clear water and a soft wash cloth Wash the rest of the baby with soap and water one area at a
time Make sure you dry all of the baby’s creases Don’t use q tips, babies jerk and it could damage their hearing
Dressing a baby Many newborns just wear a onsey When babies creep and crawl they need more
durable clothingPull over garments
1. Gather garment into a loop and slip over the back of the baby’s head
2. Stretch the garment forward as you bring it past the forehead and nose
3. Put the baby’s fist into the armhole and pull the arm through with your other hand. Repeat and straighten out the bottom on the garment
