Photosynthesis badger task Photosynthesis is the reaction that allows plants to make their own food; the plant uses chloroplasts in the green leaves to absorb and trap sunlight in. They then use this sunlight to react with the water and nutrients /minerals its roots absorb from the soil and carbon dioxide in the air around us. There are many factors that affect photosynthesis including heat the hotter it gets the rate increases but after 40 degrees the enzymes in the leaves die. Another is carbon dioxide concentrations, the more carbon dioxide the higher the rate of photosynthesis Concentration of carbon dioxide The word equation for the process of photosynthesis is Light Water+carbon dioxide glucose+oxegon Chlorophyll 6CO 2 + 6H 2 O (+ light energy) C 6 H 12 O 6 + 6O , this is the overall chemical reaction for photosynthesis Rate of photosy nthesis

Photosynthesis badger task

Photosynthesis is the reaction that allows plants to make their own food; the plant uses chloroplasts in the green leaves to absorb and trap sunlight in. They then use this sunlight to react with the water and nutrients /minerals its roots absorb from the soil and carbon dioxide in the air around us. There are many factors that affect photosynthesis including heat the hotter it gets the rate increases but after 40 degrees the enzymes in the leaves die. Another is carbon dioxide concentrations, the more carbon dioxide the higher the rate of photosynthesis

Rate of photos ynthesi s

Concentration of carbon dioxide

The word equation for the process of photosynthesis is

Light Water+carbon dioxide glucose+oxegon Chlorophyll

6CO2 + 6H2O (+ light energy) reaction for photosynthesis

C6H12O6 + 6O, this is the overall chemical

Roots Roots act like straws absorbing water and minerals from the soil. Tiny root hairs stick out of the root, helping in the absorption. Roots help to anchor the plant in the soil so it does not fall over. Roots also store extra food for future use. Roots do not have chloroplasts at all; this would be a waste of space in the plant because the roots are underground.

Stems Stems do many things. They support the plant. They act like the plant's plumbing system, conducting water and nutrients from the roots and food in the form of glucose from the leaves to other plant parts.

Leaves Most plants' food is made in their leaves in chloroplasts which contain the chlorophyll this is where the photosynthesis takes place

Flowers Flowers are the reproductive bits of the plant. Flowers contain pollen and tiny eggs called ovules. After the flower pollinates and its seeds are scattered and there will be new plants Xylem and phloem These are tubes running up and down the plant. The xylem takes up water and other minerals while the phloem transports the glucose around the plant this is vital to the plant and you can see the tubes in a cross-section of a stem especially in plants such as celery.

Respiration Respiration in plants is one of the most important processes in the plant; its needed in plants to carry out the chemical change in gases and provides metabolic energy Biomass Biomass is the total amount of living matter in plants. In things like agriculture exceeded biomass from as little photosynthesis is the basis of productivity; the famers can try many different things to get a ratio of biomass of up to 40:1! They have different ways of trying to reach this level by 1. Plant the proper plants at the proper time. 2. Space the plants properly (less competition).3.

To know the plants specific plant's water requirements very carefully.

4. To know the plant's nutrient requirements very carefully. 5. Be known about the plant's rooting patterns.

6. Reduce weed competition. Various things can slow down biomass oxygen production

Things which affect biomass production and oxygen evolution: algal beds - pollution reefs - pollution tropical rainforests - logging & clearing swamps - draining marshes - draining
