30 YEARS
HELPING BUSINESSES RESHAPE THEIR PRODUCTS
In November 1986, three innovative self-starters opened SAY Plastics, performing fabrication and distribution services in Adams County. They had just two clients — Westinghouse Elevator and Amp Inc. — but they had a lot of ideas and a bright future.
Today, SAY Plastics is a contract manufacturer that special-izes in design, thermoforming and assembly of plastic parts and components, supporting the needs of more than 100 clients, including Harley-Davidson Inc., Honda, Schindler Elevator Corp., the rail transportation system and bus mar-kets. SAY Plastics is ISO 9001:2015 certified for the design, thermoforming and assembly of plastic products, making it compliant and competitive in the market while also breeding confidence in its services.
In the company’s early years, all engineering documents were hand-drawn and everything was manufactured by hand using a manually operated thermoforming machine, a table saw, a panel saw, manual drill presses, hand power tools and hand routers with template guides. Now, all systems are computer-operated — in the individual workstations, in every office and in several locations throughout the plant floor. Part design is completed with CAD and solid modeling, while forming and trimming are accomplished with CNC controls.
Depending on the project and the specifications involved, the company works with a variety of materials to meet its clients’ needs.
SAY Plastics’ collaborative approach to doing business features innovative engineering systems like the SAYtooling System — its own cost-effective tooling development system — as well as additive manufacturing, reverse engineering, internal design engineering and process engineering. Qual-ified subcontractors are used for part model and tool design support. SAY Plastics also takes advantage of software and systems support from outside partners, and it has internal 3-D printing services.
Traditionally, transportation parts were composed of metal and fiberglass materials. But with expertise in transforming metal and FRP (fibre-reinforced plastic) parts into thermo-formed plastic designs, SAY Plastics has been able to carve out a new niche by re-engineering replacement parts for railcars, trucks and buses. Paired with its reputation for excellent customer service, SAY Plastics clients know there will be no headaches or unnecessary project delays.
In addition, the ClasSAY Global service group provides a range of protective solutions for the automotive industry and its suppliers — from assembly line shielding protection to part packaging for transporting. The cost savings and efficiencies associated with ClasSAY Global have attracted automotive industry clients from around the world.
