Photo-Realism

Maddy O’Donnell

• Photorealism is the genre of painting based on using the camera and photographs to gather information and then from this information, creating a painting that appears to be very realistic like a photograph.

Robert Bechtle

• Robert Bechtle is an American painter, born in San Francisco, California, on May 14, 1932. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts (1954) and Master of Fine Arts (1958) from the California College of Arts and Crafts, now the California College of the Arts, in Oakland, California.

Charles Bell

• Charles Bell (1935 – 1995) was an American Photorealist, known primarily for his large scale still lifes.

Chuck ‘Charles’ Close• Charles Thomas "Chuck"

Close (born July 5, 1940, Monroe, Washington) is an American painter and photographer who achieved fame as a photorealist, through his massive-scale portraits.

Richard Estes

• Richard Estes (b. May 14, 1932, Kewanee, Illinois) is an American artist, best known for his photorealist paintings. The paintings generally consist of reflective, clean, and inanimate city and geometric landscapes.

• After reading about Photo-realism, I liked how much the paintings looked just like real-life pictures. My favorite is Chuck Close because he shows people’s flaws in their faces like their wrinkles and pores.
