they say that a single photo is worth one thousand words. In the world of journalism, I like to believe that one single photo is worth one thousand stories.
Photojournalism is something that I think people should appreciate more. As humans, we love to have a visual aid to almost everything that we do. Photographs have been around for what seems like forever because we like to relive memories, we like to capture our lives, and we like to view beautiful images we may have never seen if a photo had not existed. I think of photos the same way I think of movies. Movies tell a story in ways that words on a page cannot. Movies take storytelling to the next level, you get to see the film through the director and the screenwriter’s eyes. With photojournalism, you get to see the story through the eyes of the photographer. Photos give the story its heart.
We discussed several ideas for special editions for the spring 2010 semester here at The Campus, but the one that always stuck was a photo edition. We have some incredibly talented photographers, and this is their time to shine. I’m glad to have been able to work with such talented photographers and staff alike, and I thank all of you for my time here at The Campus. Thank you all for helping to accomplish my vision for this paper. Without each of you, this would have been impossible.

I was fascinated with the ge
ars I found while fixing a pocket
watch, so I held a jew
eler’s handlens up to my camera and sh
ot away.
The lens created a nic
e blurred frame around the edges.

Clockwork
Days after a rain always make for beautiful skies. The stop sign was much darker than the nice spring sky, so I popped a little flash onto the sign to make it brighter.

I got this photo while covering “Cabaret” at the COS the-
atre. At first I was disappointed at not being able to use flash,
but this ended up working to my advantage; the neon stage lighting
was superb.

This is one of the first pho-tos that I experimented with blurring motion. I used long shutter speed to blur the wa-ter, and made it look nice and soft alongside the more rigid rocks and icicles.

I can't really pick my favorite aspect about this photo; I like all of it. It was taken on a Sunday drive near Rocky Hill. I like that no matter where you are, you can take a piece of nature with you. It's like a positive blessing on your travels.

This was taken in New York City next to Central Park. While walk-ing, my eyes were drawn to the con-trast of the bright green to the blues and greys of the city. I liked that between these two differ-ent images, there were people ty-ing them together. I still somet-mies wonder who they are and what their story is.

What I like most about this photo is how small the subject looks in comparison to the rest of the things around him. There is some-thing to awe inspiring when a person realizes how small they truly in the scheme of things. I think thos photo portrays that fact wonderfully.

“JUDGEMENT”

During the Journalism Association for Community Colleges Los Angles, I
went to Hollywood Blvd with a few members from the COS Campus News
late night on Friday April 10, 2010. While the night life was in full swing with
club go-ers up and down Holllywood Blvd, It was at 11:11pm where i came
across this man frantically preaching the final day is approaching and that
we will all be judged. It’s hard not to believe he truly believed it. Shutter

like the photo of hayley wil-liams, this photo of josh farro was shot on a point and shoot, which made me really nervous about how it would come out. this was one of the photos i loved the most from the entire night. i love concert pho-tography, so add-ing these to my collection was awesome.

“adrenaline“i’ve been a fan of the band paramore for almost six years.
their live shows are something i can’t even begin to explain, so
to catch the passion that hayley williams delivers in a photo was
incredible. shot on canon powershot sd1000 @ 1/80 sec, f4.5, iso 1600
