It is with great pleasure that I announce that construction of the new Palo Alto Junior Museum & Zoo (JMZ) is underway. This milestone comes after more than a decade-long effort to realize a new JMZ facility. The Board of Directors of the Friends of the Palo Alto Junior Museum & Zoo (Friends) is very grateful to all of our donors for helping us raise $25 million to reimagine and rebuild the Junior Museum & Zoo. We are confident that this new facility will support the JMZ’s mission to engage a child’s curiosity in science and nature for generations to come.

While construction progresses, the JMZ will continue to provide unique educational experiences for children at our temporary location at Cubberley Community Center in Palo Alto. Kids can enjoy their favorite exhibits, including the Kid-Powered Ball Machine, giant Climbing Web, and the Hydropower Machine. Visitors can also see some of their favorite animals, including our skinks, hedgehogs and boa constrictor. The Friends is also maintaining its steadfast commitment to fundraising for science and accessibility programs that benefit the JMZ and the local community. Our Science Outreach Program reaches more than 2,500 elementary school students each year in surrounding communities that serve high numbers of children from low-income families, and we are continuing to expand the pro-gram’s growth and impact. I invite you to join me in supporting this early-education science program by making a directed contribution to the Science Outreach Program. We are excited to continue our work to support and enhance the Palo Alto Junior Museum & Zoo for today’s children and future generations. We celebrated many milestones in 2018, including moving to Cubberley Community Center, demolishing the old museum and zoo, and beginning construction of the new JMZ. These highlights have followed years of hard work and collaboration between the Friends, City of Palo Alto, our donors, and the local community.

Available Recognition OpportunitiesLoose in the ZooA novel zoo habitat designed especially for children that will be home to a blue duiker, barn owl, armadillo, Caribbean flamingos, and many more! Protective netting will cover the zoo, and children will encounter animals as they climb into logs, crawl underwater, and scale over the zoo.

Raccoon CreekThe new Raccoon Creek willprovide a natural habitat designed to optimize children’s engage-ment with our rescued raccoons.

Ball MachineIn the new JMZ, the permanent ball machine will nearly double in size! Judging by the love for our current ball machine, it will almost certainly be a favorite among visitors.

Science Outreach Program The Junior Museum & Zoo ignites a love for science and nature in elementary school students from local, underserved communities. Through the Science Outreach Program, the Friends’ goal is to deliver exceptional science programming to every single student in Ravenswood City School District by 2020. We hope you will join us in providing critically needed STEM education to local students by donating to the Science Outreach Program.

Club JMZ Club JMZ members enjoy unique access to the Junior Museum & Zoo in a quiet and intimate setting, with special access to exhibits and animals. Members also provide vital support through their membership donations, which help fund new exhibits, care for animals, and rebuild the JMZ.
