EveryyeartheULSUputstogetherayearinreviewthatwillcoveralloftheimportantinitiatives,eventsandotheraspectsofwhattheStudents'Uniondoes.ThisyearasPresidenthasbeenoneofthemostmeaningfulexperiencesofmylife.IcansaywithabsoluteconfidencethatthishasbeenthebestjobIhaveeverhadandwilllikelystaythatwayforyearstocome.IalsoknowthatmyfellowexecutiveteamMichaelGale,VirginiaBrickley,CharlieHelmer-SmithandDanielleAdamswouldagreewhenIsayIwillneverforgetthisyear.
TheStudents'UnionwasestablishedunderthePost-SecondaryLearningActtorepresentstudentintereststotheUniversitySeniorAdministrationandalllevelsofgovernmentwhilesimultaneouslyenhancingstudentlifeatourinstitution.ThisyearweonceagainhostedFreshFest,LastClassBashandalsobroughtMTV’sown
JessiCruickshanktocampus.WeadvocatedonbehalfofstudentsfortherenewalofthementalhealthfundingtoourUniversitythroughaletterwritingcampaignaswellasaffordabilityofpost-secondaryeducation.OneofourbiggestwinswastheimplementationofafallreadingbreakforstudentstobeginintheFallof2016.
TheStudents'Unionwouldnotbeabletooperatewithoutthehelpofourninefull-timestaff.Theyarethegluethatkeepsourorganizationtogetherbyprovidingguidancewhenneededandactingasmentorseachyeartonewandeagerexecutivesastheycomeintotheirrolesandlearnwhatkindofleadertheyare.Onbehalfofthe2015-2016ExecutiveCouncil,IwouldliketothankourGeneralAssembly,staff,volunteersandalltheotherswhomadethisyearnotonlypossible,butasuccess.Brenna Scott - English major

ItwasanexcitingopportunitytobetheChairforULSU.Thedifferentrepresenta-tivesfromtheGAandtheExecutivewereverywellorganizedasagroup,assistedindistributingvaluablefundingdollarsandhadsomegooddiscussionsonissuesthatappliedtostudents.IwouldliketothankallthestudentrepresentativesoftheGA

TheStudentEngagementCommittee(SEC)wasaplaceforeverystudenttobringtheircreativeideasinaninvitingenvironment.StudentscollaboratedtodiscusspotentialStudents’Unionevents,promotionsofevents,andhowtoimproveupontheirfuturesuccess.Thiscommitteemetonceamonthandalthoughtheattendancewasnothigh,manybrilliantideasweresuggested.Someofthemanycreativeideasthatwerebrainstormedincludedapit-ballevent,snowballfight,movienights,comedynight,nap-room,scavengerhuntandmanymore.IdeasinregardstoMentalHealthWeekinitiativeswerediscussedwherestudentscantakeabreakbetweenclassestorelaxwhileplayinggames,creatingartandhavingsnacks.Thesesortofeventsareimportantforover-allstudentwell-being.OthereventslikeSuperheroandSuperVillaincabaretwerebroughttothetable.Membersmadecontribu-tionsthroughgeneratingideasandpromotingevents.Individualspromotedeventsthroughtheirsocialmediaaccountsaswellasbydiscussingtheeventswiththeirpeers.Thecommitteewasanexcellentopportunityfor
studentstoengageanddiscusswhattheywouldliketoseeattheUniversity.Membersalsoparticipatedinsetupandsupervisingtheeventsforitssuccess.Theyvolun-teeredtheirtimetohelpruneventssotheUniversityofLethbridgestudentpopulationcanenjoytheirexperienceatthisschool.Mostimportantly,SECmembersdiscussedhoweventscanbebetterorganizedandpromotedinthefutureformoresuccessfulresults.Asalways,thiscommit-teewasanamazingopportunityforstudentstoengageandmakeadifferencetostudentlifeoncampus.Aini Khan - Heath Sciences, Public Health major
LegislativeReviewCommittee
TheLegislativeReviewCommitteewasresponsibleforgoingthroughtheULSU’sconstitution,bylaws,andpoli-cies.AbigpartoftheLegislativeReviewCommitteewastoupdateandensurethatwhattheULSUstandsforwasupheldinourlegislation.Thiswhyitisvitaltocontinu-ouslyupdateandeditthelegislationsothatthestudent'sbestinterestsarealwaysinmind.
Theconstitutionhadthreenewupdates,mostnotablewouldbethedeletionoftheEdmontonCampusRep-resentativeasthecampusisclosing.Thebylawshadthirteenchanges,mostnotablechangeswouldbetheadditionoftheFirstYearRepresentativeandfurtherdeletingoftheEdmontonCampusRepresentative.Othercorrectionsinthebylawsareminorgrammaticalandformattingerrors.Thepolicieshadelevencorrections,mostnotableonesincludedchangingtheamountofundergraduatesignaturestoratifyaclubfromfifteentotwelve.ThiswaschangedtounifytheneededsignatureswithintheStudents'Union.Alsochangedinthepoli-cieswasthedeletionofpolicyXXII.Thispolicyregardedcabaretandeventprogrammingdetails,alloftheinfor-mationfoundinthispolicywaspresentelsewhereinthelegislationmakingthispolicyredundant.
ThiscommitteehelpedtoensurethattheStudents'Unionvisionandresponsibilitieswereontrackandin

ExecutiveAccountabilityCommittee
AnimportantaspectofStudents'UnionaccountabilityisfortheGeneralAssembly(GA)andstaffmemberstoevaluatehowtheExecutiveCouncil(EC)performs.Thisyear’steambuiltonthepreviousyearsquestionnairebyextensivelycleaningupgrammarandaddingnewques-tions.Overall,weimprovedthequestionnairesonext
yearwillhaveastrongquestionbasetoworkfrom.Dis-appointingly,thesurveyonlyhada50%responserate,whichmadetheEAC’sjobfrustrating.Overall,thesurveyresultswerepositiveandidentifiedtheECashavingdoneagoodjob.TheECfocusedonstudents,andworkeddiligentlytoofferstudentsthebestservicesandhelpwhenneeded.Afewkeyareastoworkonwerecommu-nicationwiththeGA,intra-officeconflictresolution,andprofessionalism.Thisyear’sExecutiveCouncildidagoodjobanddeservepraisefortheirhardworkanddedica-tiontostudents.Kieran Brennan - Political Science major

Thisyear,manystudentscametotheULSUwithvariousacademicgrievances,thoughonlytworequiredmetositontheactualgradeappealcommittee.Thisseeminglylownumberistypicalofthegradeappealprocess.TheUniver-sity'sproceduresforgradeappealsplacealotofemphasisonconcludinganyissuesbeforetheyreachappeals;thisgivesmixedresults.Ononehand,itisalotsimplertojusttalkthingsoutwithyourprofessorone-on-oneinsteadofbringingthingstothecommittee.Muchofmyfunctioninthegradeappealprocesswastoactasasupporterorresource-person,andthishassurprisinglystrongeffects.ManystudentsjustneedreassurancethattheyactuallyCANquestiontheirprofessors,afterthattheycanconcludeanyissues.However,thisprocessimpedestheprogressofanyappealswhereinstudentsarenotsatisfiedbyjustdiscussingthingswiththeirprofessor.Theamountofworkthatgoesintoasuccessfulgradeappealpackageisdaunt-ing,andthatisnothingcomparedtotheintimidatingbureaucraticstressorsthatcomewithanappeal.Aninde-pendent3rd-partyappealsadvisorwouldbeusefulfortheUniversityasawhole.SuchapositionwouldhelpmanyhesitantappellantsaswellasfreeuptheVPAcademictositonmoreappealcommitteeswithoutanypotentialforconflictsofinterest.Charlie Helmer-Smith - History/Economics major

Therewasatremendousstepforwardforstudentmentalhealththisyear.OurrelativelynewRegistrarSusieKen-nedycapitalizedonaGFCmandatetoimplementafallreadingbreak.Thisrequiredbroadsupportfromallacrosscampus,includingaverystrongstudentvoice(whichIwasveryhappytoprovide).Thenewfallreadingbreakwentthroughmanyformsinitsdevelopment,butthebestsystemforeveryoneendedupbeingtheweekofRemembranceDayinNovember.Thiswasatestamenttowhatstrongpolicy,strongadvocacy,andafocusonmentalhealthcando.Charlie Helmer-Smith - History/Economics major

TheCanadianAllianceofStudentAssociationsmetinOt-tawafromMay18th-22nd,August10th–12th,November19th-22nd,2015andFebruary22nd-28th,2016.
Foundationswasthefirstconferenceoftheyear,withagreatmanypresentationssuchas;SafetyAgainstWomen,theGenerationalSqueeze,PoliticalClimate,MentalHealth(presentedbytheMentalHealthCommissionofCanada),CanadaStudentLoans,MikeCorakonPSE,RossFinnieonEarningsofGraduates,aGovernmentRelationsPanel,Advocacytraining,MediaTraining,BasecamptrainingandFinancialAid.TherewereseveralsmallerpresentationsthateducatedthegrouponCASA,pastandpresent;aswellaswhereitwasgoing.AllelectionsforBoardChairandtheDirectorshappenedatthistime.GetOuttheVoteprepcameafterwards,inAugust,whichwasthefinalwrapupoftheprogrambeinglaunchedintheGetOuttheVotecam-paign.Thereweremanyplanningsessionsandstrategiesbuiltoverthecourseoftheconferencethateachstudentleadercouldtakebacktotheircampus.
Forourcampus,theVPExternaldidover30classroomtalksaboutvotinginthefirsttwoweeksofSeptember,aswellasusingextensivesocialmediatopromoteawareness.TheVPExternalalsohostedanAllCandidatesForumwhichwashugelysuccessful;drawinginover200studentsandcommunitymembers,leavingnothingbutstandingroomonly.Allcandidatesattended.RachaelHarder(C),CherylMeheden(NDP),MikePyne(L),KasMacMillan(G)andSollyKrygier-Paine(R).Thedebatemadethefrontpageofthepaper,aswellasbeingfeaturedontheradiostationsandmakingnationalnews.ThroughoutOctobertheStu-dents'Unionreallyfocusedongettinginformationtostu-dentsabouthowto;register,vote,findtheirpollingstationandgoabouttheprocesssmoothly.AdvancedPollingwasOctober9th-12th,andmanystudentswereatthepolls.
InNovember,CASAmetinHalifaxtogoovertheGOTVcampaignanddecideonthefinalpolicyasksforlobbyweekinthenewyear.GOTV,andCASAbyextension,re-

ceivedmuchmediaattention;wellover50hits,and1000viewswhichismoremediaattentionthanCASAhaspreviouslyreceived.Theamountofpoliticalattentionwasenormous-manyMP’schosetopayattentiontoPSEduetothiscam-paign.Voterparticipation,especiallyinyoungadultsskyrocketed.ElectionsCanadastatedtherehadbeena10–12pointincreaseinyouthvote!Indigenousridingswereat20%,30%and40%higherthannormaldependingonlocation.Therewere41,072pledgesnationwide–includ-ingourowncampus.Theprioritieschosenwere;YouthEmploymentandEntrepreneurship,FinancialAssistance,EquitySeekingGroups(MentalHealth,FNMI,InternationalStudents)andResearch.
InFebruary,theVPExternalflewtoOttawatopartakeinSuperCon;amixofalobbyconferenceandtheannualAGM.Whilethere,over157meetingswerescheduledwithMP’s,MinistersandSenators;ofwhichtheVPExternalattendednine.TherewasampleopportunitytomeetwithMP’sfromalloverthecountryduringameetandgreetheldattheHouseofCommons,aswellasthewidevarietyofmeetingstheVPExternalattended.TheAGMwasthelastpartoftheconference,whichwasawrapofhowtheweekwent,whowemetwith,andwhichofushadupdatedHighrisewithmeetingdetails.Virginia Brickley - VP External
CAUSReportCampaigns;GetOuttheVote(EndofApril,beginningofMay)&MentalHealthLetterWriting.
Overthecourseoftheyear,therehavebeen11in-personCAUSmeetings,aswellastwelveteleconferences.CAUSpriori-tiesaredecidedveryearlyintheyear,May7th-10thtobeexact,buthoweachpriorityisaddressedwasthesubjectofmuchdiscussionanddebateoverthepastyear.Ourprioritiesthisyearwere;TuitionandMandatoryNon-InstructionalFees,CampusMentalHealth,StudentFinancialAid,StudentEmploymentProgram,Research,andPSLAGovernance.CAUSalsopresentedabudgettoMinisterSirgurdson,theMinisterforAdvancedEducationatthetime,aswellasamen-talhealthletter,whichallmembersofCAUShelpwrite.
AlargefocusforCAUSwasthewaytuitionisdefinedandregulatedintheprovince,andwhatrecommendationscouldbebroughtforwardforthelobbyweekinApril.Itwasdecidedthattuitionshouldbereturnedtolegislation.Inaddition,loopholesformarketmodifiersshouldbeclosed,notallowingUniversitiestoaddadditionalamountstowhatstudentsalreadypayforservicesrendered.MandatoryNon-InstructionalFees(MNIFs)werethelastpartofthetuitionaskthisyear,pushingthegovernmenttoregulateMNIFsinordertopreventgougingstudentsduringthetuitionfreeze.

thisyear.Withthesubmissionofamentalhealthletter,allfiveschoolsparticipatedinacampaigntogetstudentstowriteletterstothegovernmenttostresstheimportanceofthisfundingandhowithashelpedstudentsoverthepastthreeyears.TheULSUcollected230lettersfromstudentsandsentthemtotheMinistry.
LobbyweekthisyeartookplaceonApril3rd-8th,opentobothoutgoingandincomingmembersoftheorganiza-tions.ThecurrentVPExternal,VirginiaBrickley,andtwoincomingexecutives,CodyCionaandCameronHowey,attendedtheconferenceinEdmonton;participatinginmeetingswithMinisters,MLA’sandotherstakeholders.AllcurrentmembersofCAUSattended,andwereintroduced,inQuestionPeriod–theirnamesforevergoingonrecordintheminutes.CAUSmetwithMinisterMarlinSchmidtonTuesday,April5th,andhadagoodconversationaboutallofthepriorities.
OnApril6thCAUShostedanMLAmeetandgreetatCen-tralSocialHallinEdmonton,whereMLA’sandstaff,fromallthedifferentpartieswereinvitedtoattend.Theeventwasquitesuccessful,asmembersofeachpartyattendedthegathering.Therewasfoodanddrinktogoaround,eachincomingandoutgoingmemberofCAUShavinganopportunitytomeetandtalkwithMLA’sinacasualset-ting.Anhourintotheevent,theMinisterforAdvancedEducation–theHonorableMarlinSchmidt,arrived.Thiswasagreattimeforthestudentleaderstohavesomeindi-vidualtimetospeakfreelyaboutpost-secondaryissues,aswellasgettoknowtheMinisterpersonally–developingrelationshipsgoingforwardthatarepositiveandpowerful.Virginia Brickley - VP External

ingjustacoupleofthem,butthey'vebeen
takingonalotofhardtopics,likebullying,
andWUSCisgoingtobebringingarefugee
studentontocampusinthenearfuture.Our
veteranclubsdidanamazingjobastheyal-
waysdomakingsuretheyareastrongpres-
enceonandoffcampus.Onaclubpolicy
sideofthings,wearedroppingtheamount
ofstudentsneededtoratifyfromfifteen
downtotwelve.Thereweresomeissuesthis
yearwithclubsmissingClubsCounciland
thenbeingplacedonprobation.Thepolicy
mayneedtobereviewednextyeartomake
surewedecreasethenumberofclubson

RelayforLife
TheRelayforLifeisanannualeventthathasbeenheldattheUniversityofLethbridgeformanyyearsnow.Thisyear(likemanyyearsbefore)theULSUputinateamwithagoalofreaching$100perparticipant.Togetherweraisedagrandtotalof$850andspentaspiritednightdressedinyellowandgoldontheschooltrack.Itwasaverywellputtogethereventwithalotofenthusiasm,andsupportfromalltheparticipants,volunteers,andcoordinators.Jessica Jones - Psychology & HRM/LR
1stYearManagerialCaseCompetition
TheIntroductoryManagerialCaseCompetition(IMCC)isaveryexcitingeventhostedattheUofLbytheULSUandMSS,withthesupportofmultiplesponsors.Thiscasecom-petitionisrestrictedtofirstandsecondyearstudents,anddesignedtoprovidealessthreateningintroductiontocaseanalysis.Studentswithminimal,tonocaseexperienceareencouragedtoattendandgaincasecompetitionexperi-ence,withthemotivationofacashprize!
Thecompetitionisheldoveronedayandissplitintotwosections.Themorningconsistsofbreakfast,followedbyaworkshopwherecompetitorslearntipsandstrategiesonanalyzingacase,aswellastheessentialsofpresentingacaseresponse.Afterlunch,competitorssplitintotheirteamsandweresentintoisolationwiththecase.Duringisolationthestudentscreatedafifteen-minutepresentationwithoutaccesstointernetoroutsideassistance.Followingathree-hourisolationperiod,theteamspresentedtheircaseresponsestoapanelofjudgesformedofexperiencedstudents,andindustryprofessionals.Fromthere,thetopthreeteamswerechosenandawardedtheircashprizes.
Theeventwashighlyvaluabletostudentsinexperiencedwithcaseanalysis,asittaughtthemskillsthattheywillusebothinhigherlevelclassesandintheircareers.Havingacompetitionwherefirstandsecondyearstudentsdonothavetoworryaboutbeingovershadowedbymoreexperi-encedstudentswasalsoimportant.Brendan Warren - Manage-ment Representative

TheModelUnitedNationsClubinits15thyear,attendeditsannualnationalconference.ThisyeartheclubvotedtoattendMcMunhostedbyMcgillUniversity.McMunhasbeenwidelyconsideredthebestconferenceinCanada,andinsomeyears,haswonbestconferenceintheworld.Wehaveattendedthisconferencemanytimesinour15yearsandhavealwaysdoneanexcellentjobrepresent-ingtheUofL.McMunoffersatraditionalUNcommitteeexperienceaswellashistoricalandmodernworldissues.Thisyearstudentsdebatedissuesrangingfromthe2008financialcrisis,genocideprevention,thecreationoftheUnitedStates,andillegalarmstradeprevention.Ourclubgivesstudentstheopportunitytobuildknowledgeanddebateideaswhileattainingpublicspeaking,research,andwritingskills.Inaddition,theconferenceofferedsocialandnetworkingactivitieswhereclubmembersmadevalu-ablecontactsandmetlifelongfriends.Iknowalltheclubmembershadagreattimeandmanyhavecommittedtotheclubtripnextyear!TheULSUgraciouslygaveus$3000tohelppayforregistrationfees,andtheentireclubwasbeyondgratefulforthisfinancialaid.Evenwiththelargepriceofthetrip,ourclubmanagedtohave35attendees,arecordforourclubinthelastdecade.Kieran Brennan - Political Science major

Thisyear5DaysforTheHomelesswentexceptionallywell.DirectorConnerWilliamshailingfromtheManage-mentStudentsSociety,alongwithourteamoforganizersandsleepersworkedreallyhardtomakethiseventgoassmoothlyaspossible.Oursleepersbravedthewindandtheelementsfor5daysfromMarch13th-18th.Duringthistimewehadmanyvolunteerscometohelpraisemoneybyplayingguitaroutsidebythesleepers.WealsohadaplethoraoffooddonationscomeinfromTheZoo,Mr.Mikes,SaveOnFoodsandfreecoffeefromtheCoffeeCompanyamongothers.OnWednesdaythe16th,weheldahotdogBBQoutsidetheFirstChoiceSavingsCentrewhichwentreallywell.Intotal,5DaysforTheHome-lessraised$9,200,wherealltheproceedswenttoWoodsHomesYouthEmergencyShelter.Cody Ciona - Political Science major

DodgeballTournament
TheannualULSUDodgeballtournamenttookplaceonMarch19ththisyear.Westartedthetournamentat1:00pmandplayeduntil5:00pmthenheadeduptoTheZooforburgersandpop.Wehadover14teamscompete.Itwasverywellattendedandcameinsignificantlyunderbudget.ThistournamentraisedmoneyfortheULSUFoodBank,withthisyearraisingover$500.Witharound140studentsparticipating,thiseventengagedphysicalandmentalhealthawarenessamongststudents.Wehandedoutnumerousprizesanditwasexcellenttoseesuchahighlevelofengagementfromthestudentswhoparticipated.ThisyearwasmysecondtimeplanningthiseventandIwasextraordinarilyhappy.IwanttosendoutabigthankyoutoCheri,Megan,Tracyandeveryoneelse

CanadianOrganizationofCampusActivities(COCA)isanannualconferencethattheVPStudentAffairsattendseveryyear.Thisconferencedealswitheventplanning,clubrelatedtopics,andalsoshowcasesvariouscomedians,musicians,andspeakersthatwemayliketohaveonourcampus.ThisyeartheconferencewasheldinEdmontonandIwillnotlieIwashopingforsomewherealotcoolertogo.Regardlessofthat,itwasmyA-HA!momentfortheyear.ThetalentthatcrossedthestageandthesessionsIattendedregardingclubsshapedtherestofmyyearandwhatIwantedtodooncampusthisyear.PlusIgottomeetsomanyamazingpeoplefromalloverthecountryandit'sanexperienceIwillneverforget. Theself-defencecoursewassomethingthatIreallywantedtobringtostudentsoncampus.Wereceiveda

ThiscampaignstartedoncampusinSeptemberof2015,byencouragingstudentstotakeituponthemselvestoendsexualharassment/violenceonourcampus.Alongwithorderingt-shirtsthathelpedtopromotethecause,weencouragedaseriesofworkshopstopromoteconsentandpositivemasculinity.Inaddition,weinvitedstudentstostarttalkingaboutrapeculturethroughwhiteboardquestionsthatwouldchangeweekly,allowingstudentstoengageanonymouslyforamonthoverthetopic.ThecampaignalsoallowedtheULSUexecutivestoscreentheHuntingGroundbeforebringingthedocumentarytothestudentsofboththeUniversityandCollege.Thedocumentarywasfollowedwithapanelonhowto

SexyWeekwasFebruary1stto5thandwascomprisedofaneventeachdayoftheweekleadinguptoValentine'sDay.OnMonday,400redroseswerehandedouttostu-dentsaroundcampuswithacardlistingtheweek'sactivi-ties.Tuesday,wepiggybackedoffofKaraoke,changingthenametoSexyokeandhandedoutprizesforbestlovesong,bestduet,bestgroup,etc.OnWednesday,theKappaBetaGamaSororityorganizedaSpeedDatingnight.Thiswasahugesuccesswithnearlyahundredparticipantsandhopefullylotsofnewfriendships.OnThursday,Dr.PaulVaseydidatalkedtitled"WelcometotheAncestralMatingEnvironment".Thiseventhadlowerattendance,however,theaudiencethatattendedwereverypassionateandinterestedinthetopic.TofinishofftheweektherewasthebiggestDirtyBingoeventoftheyearwithrampedupintensityandprizesandwascalledExtraDirtyBingo.Theweekwasagreatsuccessandwasabletoengagestudentsandliftspiritsallovercampus.Michael Gale - Neuroscience, Biology & Geography.

ThisyeartheULSU,LPIRG,andSACPAworkedtogethertohosttheannualStudentSpeakerChallenge.Thetopicquestionwas"WhatisOurResponsibilitytoOthers?"anditwasaddressedfromthreeperspectives:Individual/SmallCommunity,Corporate/NGO,andGovernment.Theprizeswere$1000for1st,$500forsecond,and$250for3rd/4th.Wehadninegreatspeakersthisyear,bringingmanydiffer-entpointsofviewtowardsthisquestion.Weheardmanygreatpointsandarguments,howeverintheendthewin-nerwasKristinKrein.Congratulations!Charlie Helmer-Smith - History & Economics major
TheLastLecture
Thisyear'sLastLecturewasatremendoussuccess!ItwasontheeveningofApril13thandtherewereatleast100peopleinattendance,includingmanyfacultymembers.Icouldnotbehappierwiththeturnout.Dr.ChrisBur-tonfromHistorygaveanexcellentrenditionofhis(mis)adventuresthroughtheUSSRandRussia,andtheiraffectonhiseducationandunderstandingofhistory.Hewastremendouslyentertainingaswellasinformative.Dr.TanyaDrollingerfromMarketinggaveusasimple,yetextremely

welcomebackevent,andbyfarourbiggestyet.
Therail-jamrunbyBoarderlinewasahugesuccess,withinsane
stuntsputonbylocalsdownintheBreezewayandtonsofprizes
givenoutfromtheboardshopandtheirsponsors.Ourdecision
togoonwithoutfoodandabeergardenthisyearseemedto
havehadnoaffectonourattendance,andwasahugecostsaver
intheendwhichwasawesometosee.
Movingontotheconcert,thelineupwashandsdownamazing
thisyear,andShadfromSoundbarrierEntertainmentdidan
incrediblejobonthesoundandintelligentlightingfortheshow.
Unfortunatelyitwasasuperpopularnightforeventsallaround
townandwewereunabletosellouttheshow.However,those
whoattendedhadanawesometimeduringtheshowanda
lotofawesomephotoscameoutofthatnight.Pointswecould
improveonnextyeartomakeitbiggerandbetterwouldbe
advertizingtheeventsoonerintheyearandcollectingfeedback
fromwhatstudentswouldliketoseemoreoutofFrostbite.

TheexecutiveteamwenttoWatertonNationalParkonJuly21,2015.Wewenttheretohelpcountbutterfliesandtoalsodocumentthedifferentspecieswefoundinthearea.Thiswassomuchfun.ItwasagreatbondingeventforallofusandwegottolearnsomenewthingsaboutWatertonNationalPark.Thiswasavolunteerbasedopportunityandwegottomeetalotofpeoplefromnotonlythoseinourareabutfromthoseacrossthecountryaswell.Plus,itwasalotoffunwatchingCharlierunaroundwithahugenetandabiggrinonhisface.Brenna Scott - English major

UVolunteerprovidesvolunteeropportunitieswithintheUniversityofLethbridgeandtheLethbridgecommunity.Theyofferexcellentandmeaningfulopportunitiesforstudentstohelpoutandgivebacktoourcommunity.Akeyelementwithintheirmissionistoenhancethecultureofvolunteerismandengagementoncampus.Someinitia-tivestheytackledthisyearincludedafreehugcampaign,thevoicedriveandtheSummerColourFunRun.Thefreehugcampaign’saimwastode-stressstudentsbyhavingvolunteerswalkaroundcampusofferinghugs.Althoughasimpleconcepttheresultswereextraordinary,receivingveryvocalpositivefeedback.Thevoicedrivewasamuchlargerprojectwherestudentslenttheirvoicetothosewithoutanythroughrecordinghoursoftalkingtocreateaphoneticsounddatabase.TheSummerColourFunRunisanannualeventheldinconjunctionbyUVolunteerandLethbridgeStudents’Union,withallproceedsreceivedbyUVolunteer.Achievementssuchasthesebetterstudentsexperiencesinallfrontsacrosstheboard.Cameron Howey - Political Science & History major

Thisyear,manyofourExecutivesandGeneralAssem-blymembershadtheabsoluteprivilegeofbeinginvitedtoattendthe2016GreatnessinLeadershipConference.Eachofusservedasastudentambassador,assignedtoaparticularcommunitygroupandentrustedwiththetaskofaidinginthefacilitationoftheday’seventsandengaginginnetworkingactivitieswithourrespectivegroups.AmongthedistinguishedspeakersoftheconferencewereChesterElton,CandaceCarnahan,ChrisHadfieldandBuzzAldrin.Allfourspeakerswerenothingshortofinspiring,creating

Hello,mynameisLandryForandandIrepresentTheOrganizationofResidenceStudents(ORS)astheirPresidentfor2015-2016hereattheUniversityofLethbridge.WiththispositiononORS,IalsohavehadtheopportunitytositontheStudents'UnionGeneralAssemblyastheResidenceRepresentative.FromthisseatIhavebeenabletocontrib-uteinavarietyofwaystotheUofLcommunitythroughmyorganization,andrepresentthemaccordinglytotheUniversity'sstudents.Tostart,IwilldescribemoreonwhatORSis,whattheydo,andthenaddwhatmypositionentailsontheULSUGeneralAssembly,andwhatmyteamhasdonetosummarizetheinitiativesincollaborationwiththeULSU.
TheOrganizationofResidenceStudentsisthelargestcluboncampus,hostingasahome,andacommunityformorethan1000studentswhoattendtheUniversityofLethbridgeannually.Thisorganization,beingalargecommunityofstudents,workscloselywiththeULSU.Wehaveauniqueopportunityofexternalfundingfromhousing,andasup-portteamof32RA's,4membersofOperations,and4Ex-ecutivemembersincludingmyself,thatcreatesandmouldsthecommunitythatORScaresfordeeply.Eachyeartheteamchanges,andsodoesthecommunity.BeingapartoftheULSUhasallowedustodoalotforourcommunityinresidence,andtheentirestudentcommunitywhoattendthisschool.Youwillfindalistofevents,thatIhavebeenapartofinmyroleontheStudents'Union,andofourachievementsbelow.
FreshFest
Inmyview,FreshFestisoneofthemostimportanteventstheULSUhosts.Irememberitwellinmyfirstyear,be-inganintegralpartinshapingmy1styearexperience.FreshFestwassomethingIhavebeenespeciallyhappytocontributetothisyear.ThisisoneofthefirstcommunitybuildersthatmanystudentsreceiveattendingtheUofL,andourresidentsofcoursebecomeveryinvolvedwithit.Theresultalwayshasthemcomingoutwithasmiletostarttheiryear.AsResidenceRepresentativeIhadalargepart
inpreparingourFreshFestLuau.Thisisadryeventwithmusic,food,bouncycastles,obstaclecourse,andourfavorite100'SlipandSlide.TheUniversityhasbeenahugesupportforthisaswell,aswehadthejoyinhavingourVicePresident,AndyHakinjoinusdownthe100'Slip'nSlide.
GetouttheVote
Withthefederalelectionwehadtheopportunitytoshowthatstudentsdohaveavoice,andthattheydocarewhengiventhechancetoshowit.Withonly1000studentslivingoncampuswedidnotgetourownvotingpoll,andwereinsteadplacedintoaneighbourhoodoutsideofourzonetovote.Wecampaignedonstudentinvolvementwiththeupcomingelectionandprovidedresidentstudentswithtransportation,information,andaproofofresidencytomakevotingeasy.Doorsforthevotingstationclosedat7:30pm,butwestillhadaline-upofresidentstudentsvotinguntil11:00pm.FromthissuccessIamconfidenttheywillprovideamoreaccessiblestationtoresidencestudentsinfutureyears.
OperationChristmasLights
PartneredwiththeULSUonthepurchaseofChristmaslightsin2014-2015wehavebeenabletocontinuelightinguptheresidencespacesoncampus.Thisisaninitiativetoimproveeveryone'smentalwell-beingwhilestudentsdrawclosertothestartoftheirfinalsandtheendoftheirfirstsemester.ThisissomethingthattheResidenceAssistantsarealwaysveryhappytodofortheirresidents,andthebenefitstrulyshowfromit.

RecreationalImprovementProposal
LastyeartheULSUapprovedtheexpenditureof$36,000tobespentonanoutdoorfacilitythatbenefitsbothmentalandphysicalhealth.Origi-nallythiswasaproposaltoplacetenniscourtsoncampus.Thisproposalfellthroughanditwasagreedthatthemoneywouldbeusedinthefollowingyearforaproposalwiththesamegoals.ThankstotheStudents'Union,withthehelpofORS,Iamhappytosaywehaveapprovedtheexpenditureof$50,000toaddanewsoccerfieldtoourcampus,andthatitiscurrentlyintheprocessofbeingmade.Thisfieldwillbeopentothecommunity,andbebuiltnearbytheresidencecommunityoncampus.Thisaccomplishmentfromstudentadminis-trationwillbenefitstudent'smentalhealthandphysicalwell-being,aswellasprovidingaspaceforourcommunitytogrowandinteractwithoneanother.

TheUniversityofLethbridgeStudents’UnionformallyrecognizedandhonouredteachingexcellenceattheUni-versityofLethbridge.Weaccomplishedthisbyofferingstudentsanavenuefornominatingaprofessor,sessionalstafforlabinstructorwhohadshownoutstandingeffortstoincreasethelearningexperienceoftheirstudents.Theawardselectionwasbasedsolelyonteachingexcellence.ThewinnerswereformallyrecognizedaspartoftheULSULastLectureeventinApril2016.The6thannualTeachingExcellenceAwardswereawardedtothreeprofessors.
1.Dr.RandallBarley-BiologicalSciencesDr.Barleywasselectedforthisawardbecauseofhishelp-fulness,hispassion,andinfectiousenergywhileteaching.Hewasastrongsupporterofstudentsuccessinsideandoutsideoftheclassroomaswell,showingstrongsupportforindividuallearningaswellassupporttotheBioClub.
2.Dr.HowardCheng-Math&ComputerScienceDr.Chengwasselectedforthisawardbecauseofhisout-standingleadershipandtirelesseffortsinprovidingaqual-ityeducationtostudentsinandoutsideofclass.Hehashelpedmanystudentsachievegreatnessininternationalprogrammingcontestsaswellasindependentresearch.

TheULSUFoodBankhadabusyyearhandingoutham-perstomorestudentsthaneverbefore,aswellasin-creaseddonations.Wejustwanttosay“THANKYOU”toallwhohavedonatedtohelpsustainourfoodbank.
InSeptemberwehadanamazingdonationfromtheBhutaneseSeniorsAssociation,theyspentthesummergrowingpotatoes,onions,andtomatoes.AtharvesttimetheydividedtheharvestbetweentheULSUFoodBankandtheLethbridgeCollegeFoodBank.Itwasawonderfultreatforourstudentstoreceivefreshvegetableswiththeirfoodhampers.
AnotherwonderfuldonationcamefromagroupofquiltersinHumanResources.Thisgroupofladiesspentagreatdealoftime,energy,andtalentcreatingabeautifulChrist-
masquiltthattheydonatedandraffledoffraisingover$500fortheULSUFoodBank.
Asalways,theUniversitycommunitywasverygenerous.UofLdepartmentshadacampuschallengethatwasspearheadedbyI.T.andFinancialServices,thisyearmoredepartmentsthaneverbeforecompetedandFinancialServiceswasthedeclaredwinner.TheBoardofGovernors,theSenate,ULSUclubsandmanyon-campusindividualsdonatedfoodandmoney.
