Directions:1. Print, cut , laminate and shuffle all cards.2. Play the board game while practicing the “social fake”. The

“social fake” is a response or comment provided to someone that may not be true yet preserves the person’s feelings. Children with social cognition/pragmatic language deficits may have significant difficulty formulating a “white lie” within a social situation. When a player draws a card and reads the social situation, he must then answer the four prompt questions related to: a) using perspective to consider others’ feelings and develop a plan to preserve the feelings of others; b) determine the best response/action to maintain the social relationship; c) discuss intentions; and d) discuss outcomes.

after your comment or action?

You’re shopping with a friend and he tries on a shirt you don’t like. He says he loves it. He asks you what you think.

Your mom gets a new car. She is really excited, but you really wanted her to buy a different car.

Your best friend tells you he wants an action figure for his birthday, but you think he is too old to play with them.

Your brother wants to watch a movie that you don’t think you will like, but you know he’s been waiting to see it with you.

Your teacher got a new haircut and you think it looks weird. She asks the class what they think.

Your bus driver has really bad breath and always talks to you when you are getting on and off the bus.

The lady sitting next to you at the movies smells really bad.

You notice that the principal has something on her face when she is talking to you in the hallway.

Your mom wants to listen to her favorite song on the radio. You don’t like the song.

Your sister sang in the chorus at

school. You don’t think she can sing well. She asks you how she did.



The boy who sits next to you in class has a really hard time with math. You think the math work is easy.

Your speech –language therapist is wearing two different shoes. She doesn’t seem to notice.

A kid in your class wears dirty clothes and smells stinky sometimes.

Your doctor speaks with an accent, and you think she sounds really funny.

Your mom made you a special dinner, but you don’t really like it. You know she worked really hard making the new recipe.

Your dad picks out your outfit for the school assembly. You don’t like what he picks out.

You want to be the first person to read your project to the class, but someone else starts first.

You want to be last in line every day, and so does another student.

A girl you know invites you to her birthday party, but you don’t want to go.

The gym teacher asks you to be the

dance partner of a boy that

you don’t like.



The lady in front of you in line at the grocery store has a weird hat. She tells you she just bought it.

You don’t think the student next to you made a very good art project. He says he worked on it for two weeks, and asks you what you think.

You think your friend’s new dog is really ugly. She says, “Isn’t he cute?”

Your friend tells you that he thinks a girl in your class is pretty. You don’t think she’s pretty.

Your mom gained weight, and now her pants are tight. She asks you if she looks okay wearing the pants.

You are at your friend’s house, and her dad offers you a cookie he just baked. The cookie looks terrible.

Your sister buys a new bathing suit that you think looks silly. She asks you if you like it.

Your OT gets new glasses, and you don’t like them. She asks you what you think about her glasses.

Your teacher dyes her hair bright red, and you think she looks weird.

Your friend calls you, but you don’t feel like talking to

him on the phone.



You don’t really like a boy in your class, and you have to work on a poster with him.

Your friend’s parents don’t make a lot of money. You get a video game that he wants, but you know he didn’t get it. He asks you what you got.

You are riding the bus, and a girl you don’t like sits next to you and starts a conversation about her cat.

You’re at your friend’s house for the first time. Your house is a lot bigger and nicer. Your friend asks you if you like his house.

Your dentist has a big pimple on his face. He is leaning over you cleaning your teeth.

Your friend is wearing too much makeup, and you think she looks silly. She asks you how she looks.

Your mom is tired and doesn’t want to take you to the park like she said. You know she worked hard today.

Your little brother thinks he can ride a bike as well as you can. He says, “I ride good like you, right?”

Your friend has messy handwriting and asks you if her project looks nice.
