SILK ROAD PROJECT AND GEORGIA  

At present, the Port is equipped with modern technologies to meet European standards. The Port operates indoor and outdoor storage facilities, motor and rail roads, a distribution substation and other ancillary infrastructure. The Port has eight transshipment facilities located at the 15 berths of North Port and Internal Basin. Being one of the largest ports in the Black Sea Basin, Poti Seaport handles dry cargoes . It is the most critical part of the Caucasian transit transport network, with direct sea routes to link itself to major ports in Europe and Asia. Poti Sea Port boasts direct ferry traffic with the Black Sea ports of Ukraine, Russia and Bulgaria. The Port is connected to the nation’s railway network, linked to all the cities in Georgia and maintains communication with Poti Airport and Batumi International Airport (80 km off Poti). There are such well-known carrier lines operating in the Port as MAERSK, CMA- CGM, MSC, ZIM Line, etc. Besides, there are several private companies operating terminals under lease agreements. As one of the best equipped and modernized ports along the Eastern Coast of the Black Sea, Poti Port has acquired ISO 9001-2000. In view of growing cargo traffic between European and Asian countries, Poti Port has a potential to increase its cargo-handling capacity and attract and handle up to 25 million tons of cargo per annum.
