DESCRIPTION
I’ve been working in the film animation and graphics industry in U.K., Australia and Zimbabwe for over twenty years. Feature films I have worked on are HEAVY METAL for Votetone Productions [London 1980], WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT for Walt Disney Animation U.K.[London 1987] and FREDDY AS FRO 7 for Hollywood Road Productions [London 1990]. I have also worked on many television series including SCOOBY DOO for Hanna Barbera [Sydney 1985], LITTLE ELVIS and the TRUCKSTOPPERS for Viskatoons [Sydney 1997] and CROCADOO for Unlimited Energee [Sydney 1996] as well as T.V. commercials including PRITTEX and TELEMENT ANTI-FLATULENT for Barker McCormack Advertising [Harare, Zimbabwe] and a music video WARRIORS OF THE WASTELAND by Frankie Goes to Hollywood. I trained in graphic design at the Bulawayo Technical College, Art School in Rhodesia(1972-1974) and at West Surrey College of Art and Design, in the U.K (1978-1980), where I made a short film NIRVANA OR BUST and achieved the Higher Surrey Diploma in

I am currently working on an independent animated film called CANDLE IN THE WIND based on the life and death of Marilyn Monroe. A “pencil test” version was recently shown on TVS (ANTHOLOGY OF INTEREST) and Foxtel
Aurora’s DARK CARNIVAL. I have made several short independent films - IN THE BEGINNING, A SNAIL’S TALE, BIGBROTHER IS WATCHING YOU and SERENDITTY and also do illustration, graphic and web design. I have recently illustrated a historical novel by Renier Artens available to purchase at: http://www.amazon.com/dp/1481808338 My approach to graphics these days is more holistic as I don’t believe in “pigeonholing” artists into categories. My influences range from Salvadore Dali to the great underground cartoonist Robert Crumb, to the amazing Dutch graphic artist M.C. Escher.

This was an anti smoking TAFE project to tell the students that Kingswood and Penrith campuses are going ‘SMOKE FREE’ as of January 2014. I did it in watercolour pencils and watercolour paints. I personally prefer the texture and technique of hand drawn/painted pictures compared to computer graphics.

FILM ANIMATION
These are some layout drawings from a short animated film I am working on called “Candle in the Wind“. They demonstrate the process of how preliminary pencil layout drawings are firstly done before the final animation cells are coloured in. It is a long laborious process but digitalization has helped speed up the process. There is software available, such as Animo, which mechanically colour in all the cells once the colours have been designated to particular shapes.

ILLUSTRATION - TRADITIONALI do illustrations in many different styles ranging from photo-realism, cartoons to digital and also do paintings to sell. The book cover on the left hand side is “A Country Dies” by Renier Artens and was a freelance job. The book is now available at: www.amazon.com/dp/1481808338The drawing on the right was done in blue ball point pen with a few digital touches, like the cigarette smoke and red glow done in Photoshop.

ILLUSTRATION - 2D DIGITAL
This is a digital painting I did of Bridal Veil Falls in Katoomba when it was in full flood after heavy rains. When I looked at the falls, the tumbling water reminded me of silver hair. That is when I thought it would make an interesting digital painting of an old aboriginal man. I first took the photo then added a pencil overlay to use as a template. The process involved me importing both pictures into Photoshop then gradually building up the face by airbrushing the face in subtle layers.

3D DIGITAL
I did this ‘Can of Worms’ 3D picture in Maya. and the label for the can in Photoshop. It involved mimicking the texture and sheen of metal and using the most advantageous angle and lights to get the best picture.

GRAPHIC DESIGNThis was an entry for a T shirt contest for THREADLESS Designs. My idea is based on the old Soviet Union’s Communist notion of revolution where millions of people died and the only people who benefited were the corrupt leaders at the top. I however prefer EVOLUTION as a better alternative. The design was made in Photoshop.
