10:45 a.m. MECHANISMS THAT fACIlITATE SkIN CEll HYDrATION (lECTurE) By Michael Q. Pugliese

Do you know how to provide effective hydration treatments for your clients’ skin? Pugliese discusses the intricate systems that maintain cellular hydration within the extraordinary structure of the skin, and reviews ingredient technologies designed to promote these efforts. He identifies the external and internal aggressors that undermine cellular hydration and the problematic skin conditions they create, giving attendees an understanding of how to address and avoid their impact. This lecture covers the concepts of aquaporin expression, transepidermal water loss (TEWL), maintenance of lipid profile and interstitial water, which can help you assess hydration levels of skin and create results-oriented services for your clients.

Michael Q. Pugliese is the CEO of Circadia by Dr. Pugliese and the Circadia Institute of Advanced Esthetics. Pugliese and his grandfather, Peter T. Pugliese, M.D., hold in-depth classes on a variety of subjects, including cosmetic chemistry and histology of the skin. Pugliese is a licensed esthetician in the state of Pennsylvania, and holds a degree in business management and marketing from Kutztown University.

11:15 a.m. THE bENEfITS Of 8 HOurS Of SlEEP IN A 10-MINuTE fACIAl MASSAGE (DEMO) By Ellie Malmin

The art of massage is about touch and relaxation. Incorporating a 10-minute facial massage into a 50-minute facial treatment can make your clients feel as if they have just had 8 hours of sleep! This type of massage eliminates the stress often caused by extractions, calming the skin and acting as a sedative so the client does not break out after the facial. This massage also helps relax facial muscles and tension to create a more youthful appearance, and can even calm sebaceous oil glands in oily skin.

Ellie Malmin is a cosmetologist and electrologist with more than 30 years of experience in the industry. She is the founder of Anushka Spa in West Palm Beach, FL. Malmin has co-authored several training manuals, developed training programs for various cosmetics manufacturers and created a styling program for eyelash implants with the prominent Dr. Alan Bauman. She is currently the executive director for the Lashologist Council of America.
