    ONLINE Application for Autumn Semester - (2016 - 2017)

    PHD ONLINE APPLICATION PROCEDURE

    1. RegistrationClick 'Online Application'on PHD ONLINE Application HomepageThis will take you to the "IITB External User Registration Portal".Click on "New user? Click here to register" button.Enter your email id with which you want to register with the portal.On clicking register, an email will be sent to the email id specified by you which willcontain the activation URL.Click on the activation URL specified in the email and fill the personal details form tocomplete the registration process.

    2. Login for registered applicantRegistered Applicant should click 'ONLINE Application'on PHD ONLINE ApplicationHomepage.Type in your Registered emailid and Password as registered with "IITB External UserRegistration Portal", and click 'Login'.

    3. Filling of ONLINE Application by the Registered Applicant (after login)Enter departments (atleast one), personal details, research interest of your choice, validgate score (if available), employment details etc.Either use 'Save And Continue Later' or 'Submit Finally' option.You can preview your application at every stage by clicking on 'Preview Form'.ONLINE Application will be processed only if 'Submit Finally' option is clicked.Applicant can correct any mistakes / make changes in the "finally submitted application"

    by clicking on the link "UnFreeze Application".Once the applicant clicks on unfreeze application, the application will be treated asDraft/Un-Submitted Application , which will allow the applicant to make changes.

    Very IMP : Please note that application form will NOT be considered for furtherprocessing if Applicant does not Submit the application form Finally, even if theapplicant has filled it completely along with application fees payment.Do not keep the page idle for more than 30 minutes, otherwise the session will expire.

    4. Documents to be UploadedUpload scanned 3.5 x 4.5 photo (of type jpg/jpeg/png) with size less than 40 kb.Upload scanned Signature (of type jpg/jpeg/png) with size less than 10 kb.Upload scanned Marksheet of last semester/Consolidated Marksheet of the QualifyingDegree (of type PDF) with size less than 500 kb.Upload scanned Caste Certificate [ OBC-NC/SC/ST ] if applicable (of type PDF) withsize less than 500 kb.Upload scanned PD certificate if applicable (of type PDF) with size less than 500 kb.Upload scanned Sponsorship certificate if applicable (of type PDF) with size less than500 kb.Upload other exam score card if applicable (of type PDF) with size less than 500 kb.

    Upload scanned Statement of Purpose (SoP) , (of type PDF) with size less than 500 kb,for all academic units : Statement of Purpose (SOP) is your opportunity to share with theadmission committee your thoughts and feelings about Postgraduate studies at IITBombay including your preparation for the same. Briefly describe past project/ researchwork done by you. Restrict yourself to 500-600 words. The personal SOP will aid theadmission committee in evaluating your application.

    (i) If you are applying for more than one academic discipline, you may include separate

    SoP for each discipline.(ii) If you are applying to CTARA or CSRE, you need to upload Statement of Purpose aswell as research proposal.(iii) If you are applying to Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management, you are required tosubmit a sample of your recently published writings on a relevant topic or research

    proposal (1500 words) on a topic of your interest in place of Statement of Purpose. Theproposal should contain a) problem identification, b) brief review of literature, and c)methodology.(iv). Candidates applying to IDC are required to submit a SOP along with a 1500 word

    proposal that should specify (a) research area (b) brief review of literature and (c)

    methodology. The candidates have also to submit a recent work or paper related to theirarea of research. In addition to SOPTry to scan it using 200dpi so that the document will automatically compress uptorequired Upload Size.

    5. Payment (after login)Both Demand Draft (DD) and Online payment options (SBI online banking ORCredit/Debit Cards) are available.Either DD payment OR Online payment can be made only after final submission ofONLINE Application Form.Application Fee is Rs.300/- (Rs.150/- for SC/ST & Female Applicants)

    DD payment can be made by clicking on 'DD Payment'.Online payment can be made by clicking on 'Pay Online'.If you have made payment through DD, submit the DD along with a copy of theapplication in person at the counter of Academic Office, IIT Bombay or mailed only byRegistered Post or Speed Postto the following address so as to reach the AcademicOffice, IIT Bombay on or before 5-4-2016.

    Write "PHD ONLINE Application for Autumn 2016-2017"on top of the envelope.You must write your Name, Department,Application number and Email address onreverse side of the Demand Draft.
