Life is hard enough without trying to earn your PhD. Family demands, trying to work and study, and finances all work to make earning your PhD degree a balancing high-wire act of circus proportions. We know it’s hard.

We understand. We also know it can be done and done well.

Being in this program has been a rich, unique experience. While in the program, I have learned a lot about the value of time and being flexible. It was really important for me to make strong and lasting connections with my colleagues who share the same PhD life with similar challenges and solutions. Making sure to allow time every week to get out, explore, and meet new people is also very important. With the support of everyone in the program, and understanding family and friends, this program will continue to create a lasting impression.

It’s truly a blessing for my wife and I to be in the same program. Since we both know how the program works and what’s required of us here, we have become the best supporters of each other. There were hard times when both of us were trying to balance work and family at the same time, especially taking care of our five-year old son, but we got through it by managing our time together based on our trust and understanding of each other. This was possible because we knew exactly what each other was going through. As schoolmates and as spouses, we will try our best to support each other until we both succeed in this program.

Time has become a precious commodity since becoming a student again, especially having a young family. I get a lot of my work done after we put the baby down, but sometimes it spills over. My wife and I knew what we were signing up for when I started the program, but that doesn’t make it easy. I rely on my wife and family a lot to stay afloat. Working toward success in this program has meant learning to accept the support that the people around me offer. That’s true at work, in school and with my family.
