THE INSTITUTE Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Kottayam is established in 2015 with a major objective to set up an education model which can produce best-in-class human resources in IT and can harness the multidimensional facets of IT in various domains. It is one among the IIITs that have been established as "Institutions of National Importance" by Ministry of Education, Govt. of India under the ambit of IIIT (PPP) Act 2017. IIIT Kottayam is expected to contribute significantly to the global competitiveness through the key sectors of Indian economy and Industry, focusing on applied research and education in IT in selected domain areas. IIIT Kottayam conducts academic programs of BTech in CSE and ECE, MTech in AI and Data Science, PhD in various disciplines such as CSE, ECE, Mathematics and allied areas. INFRASTRUCTURE The institute is connected to National Knowledge Network (NKN) with a bandwidth of 1Gbps. The laboratories are equipped with various hardware and software required to carry out the research. Researchers have 24x7 access to the high performance computing facilities along-with the campus-wide licensed Matlab Software package. An MoU has been signed with CDAC for installing the state- of-art supercomputer (ParamYuva-II Supercomputer) under National Param Supercomputing Facility (NPSF). Institute is also subscribed to various E-resources including IEEE Xplore Digital Library along-with IEEE CSDL, to enhance research and learning experience. Institute has set up an incubation center (AIC), a non- profit Sec.8 company, sanctioned under the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM)—NITI Scheme of Govt. of India, which currently incubates numerous start-up companies for developing technology solutions for societal benefits. Institute is also approved as an MSME Business Incubation centre for incubating start-ups. ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Indian Institute of Information Technology,

Kottayam aims at imparting its academic

excellence through the expansion of the

frontiers of knowledge by doing world class

research. With this objective in mind, IIIT

Kottayam launched its doctoral programme to

impart the knowledge, skills and attitude to do

world class research in the area of computer

science and its allied fields.

The faculties of Engineering department and

Science and Humanities department along with

their research scholars perform cutting edge

research in their respective domains, and has

resulted in highly acclaimed publications in

reputed Journals, Conferences and patents. Our

faculties also take industrial consultancy

projects, apart from sponsored research projects

along-with collaborative projects with

Industry/Academia within India and abroad. Some

of our international collaborations are:

Volkswagen Foundation, Germany

Microsoft Research, Redmond, USA

Institute has also signed MoUs with Reliance JIO

Gen Next, Technolodge and has tied up with BOSCH

India and 3DDivella for various projects.

Research Students get an opportunity to

participate in these projects. Research works

are promoted in interdisciplinary research areas

across various departments of the institute.

SELECTION PROCESS

Candidates will be shortlisted based on the

eligibility criteria and called for the

section process (Written test and/or

Interview). The final selection will be

completely based on their performance in

written test and/or interview.

Eligibility

CSE Master’s degree in Computer

Engineering/Information Technology/

Computer Applications/ ECE or equivalent

area with minimum CGPA of either 6.5 in a

10-point scale or 60% of marks in

appropriate branches.

OR

(ii) Four-year Bachelor’s degree in

Computer Engineering / Information

Technology/ Electronics and Communication

Engineering from any IIT’s, NIT’s, IIIT’s

/ Other Institutions of National Importance

with a minimum CGPA of either 7.5 in a 10-

point scale or 70% of marks. Such students

will be awarded both MS and PhD degree on

completion of PhD Programme without any

exit option during the programme.

ECE Master’s degree in ECE/ EEE or equivalent

area with minimum CGPA of either 6.0 in a

10-point scale or 60% of marks in

appropriate branches.

OR

(ii) Four-year Bachelor’s degree in

Electronics and Communication

Engineering/Electrical Engineering from

any IIT’s, NIT’s, IIIT’s / Other

Institutions of National Importance with a

minimum CGPA of either 7.5 in a 10-point

scale or 70% of marks. Such students will

be awarded both MS and PhD degree on

completion of PhD Programme without any

exit option during the programme.

Mathem

atics:

2 years M.Sc. / Integrated M.Sc. in

Mathematics/ Mathematics and Computing/

Applied Mathematics/Statistics or an

equivalent degree with a minimum of 60%

aggregate in the qualifying examination.

ADMISSION CATEGORIES

Scholarship Holders: The candidate will be

admitted as a full-time student for PhD degree.

He/she will be receiving financial

assistantship/fellowship from

INSPIRE/CSIR/UGC/NBHM or any other recognized

funding agency.

Sponsored: The candidate should be sponsored by

a recognized R&D organization, academic

institution, government organization or industry

or QIP candidates for doing research in the

Institute on a full-time basis.

Self-financing: The candidate should be

working full-time towards the PhD degree. The

Institute does not provide any financial

assistantship/fellowship to the candidate except

teaching assistantship to a limited number, on a

case to case/need basis.

Part-time: The Candidate should be employed and

pursues the PhD Programme while continuing the

duties of his/her service. The Institute does not

provide any financial assistantship/fellowship to

the candidate.
