For more information about rapid transit in York Region, and to sign up for construction updates, visit vivanext.com. The vivaNext rapid transit project will result in benefits for the entire community, as it includes urban design elements such as pedestrian- friendly boulevards, bike lanes, tree planting and more. Over time, our community will continue to grow and Highway 7 West will transform into a more attractive urban destination to work, dine, relax, live and shop. Construction of the Toronto-York Spadina Subway Extension [TYSSE], an 8.6-kilometre subway extension from Downsview Station, northwest through York University and north to the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre, is also underway in this area. Phase 1 of the vivaNext project is well underway, as we build a 3.6 km rapidway from Edgeley Boulevard to just east of Keele Street at Bowes Road, and three new vivastations. The rapidway east of Jane will be completed by December 2016. Vaughan Metropolitan Centre [VMC]- Spadina Subway Station, the new vivastation in the VMC development area, will connect the rapidway with the TYSSE and an inter-regional bus terminal. This area will be completed in early 2018, following the opening of the TYSSE. Starting in 2016, the second phase of rapidway construction began, from Bruce St. to Edgeley Blvd. and along Bathurst and Centre Streets. It is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2019. From Edgeley to Bowes, three rapidway vivastations are being built, including a larger vivastation west of Jane Street at Vaughan Metropolitan Centre [VMC]. The VMC vivastation will connect the rapidway with a subway station and an inter-regional bus terminal via an underground concourse. The rapidway provides safer left turns for drivers, with dedicated left-turn signals at each signalized intersection and the ability to make a protected U-turn. Vaughan is attracting residential and business development to the VMC area, and this urban space will evolve over time to combine great transit access with new residential, business, entertainment and cultural centres. * Based on YRT\Viva ridership statistics during a one-

week period for Viva Purple, YRT 3 and 77 routes.

• The vivaNext rapid transit project will result in benefits for the entire community, as it includes urban design elements such as pedestrian-friendly boulevards, raised bike lanes, tree planting and more.

• The second phase of the rapidway began construction in 2016 and the rapidway is expected to be completed in December 2019. The eastern section of Phase 2 will follow the existing Viva route, travelling along Centre Street and Bathurst Street.

• The Bathurst and Centre area already hosts a significant number of retail shops, a theatre, professional services, transit terminal, health and education services, as well as a mix of low- and high-rise residential buildings. The demand for higher density in this area already exists and will continue as York Region’s population increases, which is why this next phase of Viva is so important.

• Centre St., from Bathurst to Dufferin, has high transit ridership with an average of 28,059 transit customer movements per week.* It is where people live, play, shop and obtain services.

• The rapidway provides safer left turns for drivers, with dedicated left-turn signals at intersections and the ability to make protected U-turn. The elimination of mid-block left turns will help in avoiding common side-impact accidents in the median of the roadway during times of heavy traffic.

• Similar to the rapidway project on Highway 7 in Markham and Richmond Hill, construction is being scheduled during off-peak hours as much as possible to minimize inconvenience. Access to businesses and driveways will be maintained, and sidewalks will be available.

• VivaNext will be in regular contact with property owners and residents to share construction details and help address any concerns.

Bruce Street to Edgeley Boulevard

• The vivaNext rapid transit project will result in benefits for the entire community, as it includes urban design elements such as pedestrian-friendly boulevards, raised bike lanes, tree planting and more. Over time, our community will continue to grow and Highway 7 will transform into a more attractive urban destination to live, work, dine, relax and shop.

• The 12.6 km rapidway will be built along the existing Viva route from Bruce Street to Edgeley Boulevard in the west and from Centre Street to Yonge Street via Bathurst and Centre Streets in the east.

• Construction for this second phase has begun and the rapidway is expected to be completed in December 2019.

• The Highway 7 West rapidway will bring pedestrian-friendly, attractive spaces to the west end of Highway 7 as well as faster, more reliable transit service to help people get around as our community continues to grow.

• The rapidway provides safer left turns for drivers, with dedicated left-turn signals at each signalized intersection and the ability to make a protected U-turn.

• Similar to the rapidway project on Highway 7 in Markham and Richmond Hill, construction will be scheduled during off-peak hours as much as possible to minimize inconvenience. Access to businesses and driveways will be maintained, and sidewalks will be available.

• VivaNext will be in regular contact with property owners and residents to share construction details and help address any concerns.

• Bike lanes will be built as part of the vivaNext rapidway construction. They will be painted a high-contrast green in the areas around intersections and side streets, with specific bike lane markings to clearly identify them. Bathurst & Centre will have raised bike lanes, and there will be a multi-use path across the Highway 400 bridge on Highway 7.
