Introduction
Emerging trends towards higher paper machine speeds, lower grammage of paper & board
and the growing importance of high-quality products increase the demands that the paper and
board industry places on the quality of fibrous raw materials.

Management of Paper for Recycling
The data-driven manufacturing of Industry 4.0 provides opportunities for a more efficient use of
raw materials. The management of Paper for Recycling can be improved by using big data
sources, such as CPS data from innovative measurement technologies and other secondary
sources.
The digital transformation of Industry.

Application and outlook
• Trouble shooting:
Identification of PfR quality fluctuations and their effects on process performance
and product quality
• Strategic orientation:
Prediction of PfR quality changes due to changes in future paper consumption,
collection systems etc.
• Connection with measurement devices:
Extended usage of measurement technologies in combination with simulation
models
• Optimisation of dry sorting processes:
evaluation of different sorting fractions as a basis for talor-made-quality sorting
