    General PFC Meeting Feb. 4, 2011Meeting Begins at 8:10. Flag salute.

    Presidents Message:*Kim congratulates Science Night Committee for a job well done. It was a great success-

    over 400 attendees. Students, teachers and parents loved it. We will do it again next year.*Lupin Hills Beautification Team has been awarded the Carl Gibbs EnvironmentalExcellence Award from the City of Calabasas. Kim congratulated everyone on the teamand all the volunteers. The award will be given on Feb. 8 at 7pm in City Hall. On a sidenote Lesli announced that the city will be rolling out its no plastic bags ordinance startingin July and we will no longer get plastic bags at the supermarkets or other stores.*Kim congratulated Mrs. Grady for being awarded the Citizen of the Year Award fromthe City of Calabasas.* Next week is Cyber Smart Week for our students. Mrs. Lagola will be covering variousinternet topics. A parent info meeting will be this Mon at 7pm in Hees Hall.* Jump for Heart packets went out last week. Great way for our kids to give back to a

    great cause and the kids are educated about heart disease.* The district is launching a Community Donation Appeal.: a fundraiser for the schools inour district.*Carnival and dances coming up. Donation letters are here

    Teachers Report:Mrs. Mizrahi let us know that Mrs. Grady is at a conference. Rose Dunn Dir ofInstruction, received her Doctorate and talked about her dissertation on globalelementary. The students will be doing writing assessments this week. The Map has beena great success. It was a map of the continent of Africa. The creator of the map was heredoing a lesson. Bonnie commented that we need to revisit the idea to have a map of theUS on the upper yard.

    Treasurers Report:Lesli announced our total fundraising income is $145K. We have paid out $73K inexpenses. We have a net income since Aug of $73,765. We still have $46K to pay out.We are on track because we still have our big carnival fundraiser, dances, and golftournament and more Phemac coming in.We are on track to make our budget this year.Lesli says our Holiday Boutique made $2200 which is great. Our Jog-a-thon made $7400which is great. And Tiger Tales has made $5900 after expenses, which is very good.Community Programs : Target has given us a nice chunk of money and she encouragedus to sign up for a Target Red Visa Card. A percentage goes back to our school.We have $172K in the bank and will allocate some of that money towards schoolimprovements and beautification.Measure G came up and Lesli explained that that money from the district will be used forschool site improvements most likely redoing Hees Hall but this wont happen foranother 3-4 years since the district is busy with other projects right now including,redoing Lindero Canyon Middle School and building a Performing Arts Center for AHSand CHS.

    Mrs. Mizrahi brought up that the teachers computers are breaking down and needto be replaced. Right now they are being replaced by the district as they breakdown. The computers are almost 7 years old and should be replaced. District isresponsible for replacing teachers computers.

    Lesli talked about and updated us on the cell tower issue. Right now it has beentabled and T Mobile is looking for another site. Lesli encourages all to attend theFeb. 17 open forum Planning Commission meeting in City Hall at 7pm. The citywill re-do the entire ordinance.

    Committee Chairs:Dances: Larkin announced that the planning is well underway and we have all ourvolunteers and helpers. Need volunteers to help during the week for decorating andduring the dances. Kids are actually making the decorations. Everyone will be gettingphotos. Not spending a lot of money on the food. Really keeping the cost down. Theyplan on putting up the tent again like last year. Larkin will double check with Mrs. Grady.

    . We will be having a special guest author of StinkyCheeseman coming. He will be preselling his books and a % of the sales will go to theLupin Hill library. Looking at doing an assembly for the 2-5 graders that day. Alsothinking of doing a pancake or bagel breakfast that morning. Bonnie may know someonethat has a pancake business and will contact him. Melinda says Western Bagels give ahuge amount.

    Carnival: Sun. March 27th. Set up March 26th. Angelique reports that they have filled allthe coordinator positions for the Carnival. She encourages everyone to bring donationletters to all the business you know for sponsorship and donations. She needs volunteersto actually follow-up with phone calls to business we already sent letters to. Next week

    room parents will be asked to come to a quick meeting to pick basket themes for thebasket raffle. Lesli would like to meet with the people that are organizing food with therestaurants to ensure proper payment and ticket sales. Mon at 9am will be the nextmeeting for carnival. All are welcome to attend.Box Tops: Next turn in day is Feb 28

    th. Keep saving those box tops and send them in with

    the sheet in our Tiger Tales. Need flowers for Valentines Day? Go through Box Tops.We get a %.

    Grade Committee: Robin reports that Zumba Night for the girls went very well andthe Sports night at AHS for the guys went great. Only disappointment was that the kidsdid not have Lupin Hill tee shirts to wear for spirit. PFC to look into getting tee shirts

    printed up ASAP. Robin showed us a nice decal idea that maybe we can do next yearHelping Lupins Grow. Talent Showcase is for the 5th

    graders only and will be on Feb18 and March 11. Music must be approved by Mrs. Grady.

    Beautification: Kim congratulated and thanked Valerie for the great job she did onrefurbishing the marquee. Mike changes the marquee when asked. The butterfly gardenwill be finished next week on the primary yard.

    Tiger Tales: Coming home today. Doing great. Advertising is going well. Leila suggestedthat the room moms appoint someone from their class to attend performances and takepictures for the Tiger Tales as there will not be a photographer at every event. She alsoneeds pictures from the jog-a-thon. Summer camp issue is coming out soon and asked ifanyone knows of summer camps/summer school programs, please shoot her an email.

    Someone suggested that we send copies of the Tiger Tales to our advertisers for.Someone asked if we will have a summer school program and so far we just have a paidsummer school program.

    New Business:Kim announced that we extended an invitation to all running for City Council forCalabasas. They are invited to the next PFC meeting on March 4. They will be given 2minutes to speak. We need to vote and show our support for our city as they do so muchfor our school, donating $47K just this year.Melinda asked about the status on the crossing guard at the bottom of the hill. Kim saidthat he is still down there and there is no new news on that.

    Valerie brought up that traffic is really slow getting out of the school because of thecrossing guard situation. She wondered why we dont have parent volunteers in the dropoff lane helping the traffic move faster and smoother. We will revisit this.

    Robin Felton wanted to let everyone know that March 1st

    from 4-6 at CalveryCommunity Church and amazing speaker to talk about Attitude is Altitude.

    Melanie Tourquand needs volunteers for the copy room Mon-Thur from 8-9. Anyoneinterested please contact her.
