Build a Wall for Humpty Dumpty https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0n_J2z-ILXo *Use boxes, canned goods, books, plastic cups, etc. to construct a wall for an egg. How tall is your wall? How many items did you use? How can you make it taller? How might you make it stronger? Would an egg be able to sit on your wall?

Build a Reading Fort Use chairs. sheets, cushions, boxes or anything your parents give you permission to use. Does your fort have walls? Does it have a door? Do you have a cozy place to read? Do you have a flashlight for looking at your book? Did you decorate your fort?

Water to Ice and Back Again Fill a plastic cup ¾ full of water and place it in the freezer for several hours. After frozen, run a little warm water on the outside of the cup to loosen the block of ice. Place the ice upside down on a baking sheet. Sprinkle the top of the ice with salt and add a little food coloring to see how the waters permeates and breaks apart the ice. See an example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h93ZxB21Uc4

Ice Age Melt *You will need to fill a container that will fit in the freezer with enough water to cover small plastic toys like dinosaurs, shells, rocks, leaves or small sticks. Freeze overnight. *Use a turkey baster or eye droppers to drip warm water over the frozen creation. This is most fun outdoors on a warm day.

Earth Worm Hunt *Take a stroll outside. You probably won’t have to walk far before you see an earthworm. Talk about how worms are unique and helpful for gardeners. *Draw a silly picture of what worms might look like with arms and legs. Does this remind you of another animal? Learn more: “Earthworms” https://www.mycapstonelibrary.com/reader/?isbn=9781491462157

Social Studies

*Giant Self-Portrait Get a big piece of paper or tape smaller papers together. Trace the child on the paper and color. Use chalk outside to trace your child.

*Move like transportation. Fly like a plane, chug like a train, and race like a racecar. Move fast or slow. *Play “Red Light, Green Light”

*Tape or Chalk Maze! Make a maze on the floor with tape (inside) or chalk (outside) by making lines (ex. straight, curvy, zig zag)

* Think of 3 things you can do to help someone today. Draw a picture of what you did to help others.

*Take a walk and notice your neighborhood. - houses, street signs, trees, etc. Draw a map of where you walked when you return home.

Did they guess right? Talk about the

techniques: Awareness, mindfulness and gratitude. Objectives: All activities will provide the student with the tools to increase their awareness of self, others and their environment.

2) What do you notice about their body? 3) What is going on around them?

Now ask them how they

are feeling and see if

you got the clues

difference between drawing out your

feeling and showing your feelings? Which is

easier? Which is harder?

And start again

Mindfulness: Use your senses: Identify: 5 things you see, 4 things you hear, 3 things you can touch and 1 thing you can taste.

Lie down and put a stuffed animal on your belly. Breathe slowly watching your tummy go up and down.

Lookup at the sky and simply watch. Noitce the clouds. Notes the birds. Notice nature. Just be in the moment.

Identify 2-3 ways to calm down such as deep breathing, positive self-talk, taking a walk, counting, sitting in a quiet place, writing down how you feel, coloring a picture)

Go for a rainbow walk around in your environment. Find something for each color of the rainbow.

Gratitude: List 3 things you feel gratitude for.

Do something helpful for someone in your home today and pay attention to how it makes them feel.

What is a choice you can make today that will make you feel proud of yourself? And bonus- it also keeps you out of trouble!

Express your

appreciation. Write a

kind note, send a kind

video or email to

someone. Make their

day and help them feel

appreciated. Bonus: it

makes you feel good

too.

Give hugs and snuggles to everyone in your house. Tell them you love them (even stinky brothers and sisters….LOL).

GATE

As always, pick and choose the activities that work best for you and your family. Since this is the last week of distance learning, I have posted several

web sites that you might enjoy over the summer.

If you haven’t tried it

Code.org

is a great website that teaches programming. You can try an hour of code, and if you like it you can sign up to continue with coding activities.

I just discovered the National Geographic website for kids.

https://www.nationalgeographic.com/

There are games and videos, and my personal favorite, quizzes. Find out which Greek God you would be, which National Park you should visit, or what

superpower you should have. This is a super site with lots of different options for all ages.

This is a great website. I sent the link that has activities, but there are tons of interesting videos on the rest of the site.

https://thekidshouldseethis.com/tagged/activities

If you like puzzles, this site puts up a new one every day at noon, along with the answer to the previous days puzzles. I found them challenging.

I am not sure what resources you are using to access reading. I downloaded the Cloud Library onto my tablet, phone and computer and can access the

Tulsa City County Libraries digital collection. It is free and only requires a library card. Here is the website.

https://www.yourcloudlibrary.com/

You should find it in the App store for your tablets and phones.

Here are a couple of Scavenger Hunts that my younger students might enjoy.
