A Message from your President

Each month our meetings are bigger and better. Attendance is steadily increasing and the old saying of 'The More the Merrier' seems to be true. Remember, participation is the word.

Last month our guest speaker was Sandy Sanford. He is the activities vice-president of the S. D. Corvair Club and a licensed gemologist. It's always fun to exchange information with other car clubs and in this case, we were entertained with a wonderful audio/ visual presentation which was highly educational. The enlightenment I gained (about gemstones) may save me some big bucks in the future. The presentation coupled with dinner seems to be a popular combination for our membership.

Speaking of food and activities, take note of the Mystery Garage Tour featured in May.

I was pleased that the general membership supported the opportunity of participating in a fund raising activity for the new S. D. Automotive Museum. The museum project should be available for all our members to view at the conclusion of the garage tour.

The May monthly membership meeting will feature Pete and Rita Bradley as they will be participating in The Great American Race. They will share their race strategy with us and we will view a movie about this spectacular event. Remember, refreshments will be served. The Bradley's will also repeat their stellar performance as hosts for lunch during the Fallbrook Swapmeet and- Car Show. -"Mays nould be a super - month for everyone!

ATTENTION

I'm anxious to get started on the HISTORY BOOK for our club but I need your help. If you have PICTURES of past or present events and are willing to part with them, I would appreciate your donation. Please put them in an envelope marked with date, event, and names, if possible. I would like to go back to the beginning of the club. Include your name on the envelope and any pictures not used will be returned.

Thank Y ou, L~ g~, Secretary

Still available through the club are APPLICATIONS to join the San Diego Automotive Museum. We would encourage any members to consider one of the memberships offered on the application. This is a tax deductible worthy cause and will strengthen the museum and show that we have the 'ENTHUSIASM' to show our support for this effort through our club affiliation.

TECHNICAL

Tire Rotation

I

SERVICE -BULLETIN

:s'ront and rear tires perform different jobs and can wear differently

depending on the types of roads driven, driver habits, vehicle types, etc.

For longer tire life, tires should be inspected and rotated as recommended in the vehicle owner's manual.

It is recommended that tires be rotated the first time between 6,000 to 8,000 miles and at similar intervals thereafter.

The timeliness of the first rotation is very important and should any indication of abnorrr.al or uneven wear be observed the rotation should be performed at an earlier milage than the

recor.~endation above.

Uneven or abnormal tire ','rear is usually caused by incor~ect inflation pressures, improper wheel alignment, out-of-balance

LF I IRF

~"·'l Xl LRI IRR

tires, or poor driving habits. Lack of regular rotation will magnify the degree of abnormal \'!ear. Before rotating your tires determine the cause

of any unusual ~'Iear and correct the problem.

After rotation, adjust the front and rear tire pressure to the vehicle manufacturer's reco~mendation ( add 41bs. to reco~~endations in your Packard ovmer's manual), according to the tire's new location on the car.

For optimum tread \'lear, tire performance, and fuel economy, it is best to operate the tires at the maximum recor.~ended inflation pressure. Tire Dressure should be checked at least once a month.

1- Inordinate affinity to the magnetism of extinct perambulators. 2-Self-agrandisment when viewing your image in the mirror-like finishes adorning the "mechanical monsters" of yesteryear. 3- Uncontrolable exhilera tion when surrounded by tons and tons of hiChly polished brass, chrome and stainless steel, accentuating the contours of mans "mechanical beasts of burden~ 4:- If the fear of "falling in" when being "potty trained" as a child, resurfaces at the sight of large "wide wbi te waJ.Is~ 5- If "brute power" surees through you veins at the sight of massive engine hoods. 6- If you get a "sick" feeling at the sight of contemporary bundles of "thin tin" bound together by strips of plastic. 7- If aflicted wi th "exbibi tionism" (mild form of flashing) and have to show off your "dream machine~ So- Nightmares of never-ever finding that one last gaget needed to complete your "four wheeled beauty~ 9- Habitual gambling, the overpowering desire to wager on your chance of winning a beautiful band made quilt.

If you experience any of these symptoms, you are urgently advised to keep your 24 Ma.y appointment. This isn't to say you'll be unable to make it througb another year without dire consequences. It is only to suggest, there is no reason to chance that possibility.
