בס״ד
This week’s Sedrah is big business. In it we have the Laws of Kashrus. What animals we can eat and what we cannot. Imagine the business generated by these laws. But it is nothing compared to what Kashrus has done for us. It has brought us nearer to Hashem and away from the heathen world.
Last Days of Pesach 5780 – 2020
In the 2nd passuk of parshas Haazinu (Devarim 32:2) Hashem compares His words of Torah to rain. Why?
Because just as nothing would grow without rain, so too, without Torah study we would have nothing.
This is famously stated in the Mishna (Avos 3:17) which says אם אין תורה .if we do not study torah we will have no food -אין קמח
Fascinatingly, the אור החייםcommenting on the above passuk, actually explains the other famous words of that same mishna - אם אין קמח אין
-אם אין קמח ;to be saying the same thing. He explains it as follows -תורה if we see that we lack parnassa, then we must realize it is because אין
.we do not sufficiently study torah -תורה
In Gittin 38b, Chazal teach us that Ballebatim experience loss of parnassa for not properly learning torah on Shabbos.
Through the next few days of Yomtov, and Shabbos which will quickly follow, we must recognize that this time off, the extra time we have available, is meant to allow for an increase in Torah study.
לא ניתנו שבתות וימים טובים לישראל אלא כדי לעסוק בהם בתורה
Chazal declare (Yerushalmi quoted by Beis Yosef and cited by Mishna Berura 290:2:7) “Shabbos and Yamim Tovim were given to [Bnei] Yisrael for the express purpose of studying torah.”
Yomtov and Shabbos are opportunities for us to give great nachas to Hashem Yisborach and literally connect with Him.
Wherever we find ourselves, let us all resolve to eliminate any non-Shabbos-friendly conversations and/or reading material, and utilize this Yom Tov & Shabbos for increased Torah study.

Pesach Yizkor Appeal
5780-2020
Although we have been away from our Shul for almost a month now, the vast majority of
our Shul's bills, costs, and payments continue to accrue. Many aspects of our shul continue
to function despite the dysfunction, and our shul relies heavily on the annual Pesach
Yizkor appeal for these much needed funds. We all hope to be able to return to our Shul
soon, IYH.
So if you will be saying Yizkor this Thursday, or if you are so blessed to not be saying Yiz-
kor, please support our Shul with your generous donation here.
A beautiful idea was mentioned - donations to sustain a Shul create a Zechus - a merit. It
was mentioned/suggested that perhaps we can all increase our support to our Shul as a
Zechus Refuah Sheleima for Rabbi Lehrfield - Moreinu HaRav Refael Dovid ben Etta Riva.

REFUAH SHELEIMA
Integrity and Humility Rabbi Aharon Ziegler, Associate Member, Young Israel Council of Rabbis On the eighth day of the Miluim (Inauguration of the Mishkan) Aharon HaKohen burned the meat of the Rosh Chodesh korban chatat, instead of eating it. When Moshe Rabbeinu found out he became upset and demanded an explanation. (The Gemara Zvachim (101b) details the entire incident and dialogue). Aharon explained that he burned the korban because he and his children were onanim (since earlier that day two of Aharon’s children, Nadav and Avihu, died) so they were forbidden to eat the korban. Moshe did not accept this explanation because Ha-Shem had specifically commanded that the korban Mincha of that day be eaten- in spite of Aharon’s state of Anninut. Since Moshe had already conveyed HaShem’s commandment to Aharon to eat the Mincha, he criticized Aharon for treating the Rosh Chodesh chatat differently than the mincha. Aharon replied, that he understood that HaShem’s commandment to eat the Mincha was a Horaat Shaa (a limited one-time leniency), which pertained only to the Kodshei Shaa, (the unique korbanot that were brought especially for the miluim) and not the Rosh Chodesh chatat which is a kodshei dorot (a standard and permanent korban brought regularly. Aharon ex-plained that he deduced the difference from the fact that Moshe had taught him that even maaser sheni, whose laws are less stringent than those of korbanot may not be eaten by an onen. Upon hearing Aharon’s argument, Moshe immediately agreed that Aharon was correct. The Gemara states that Moshe did not attempt to save face by simply saying, “I never heard of that”, but he said , “I did hear of this , but I forgot” This, by itself, shows the greatness of Moshe Rabbeinu. However, the Chatam Sofer, adds a further dimension. Moshe, like Aharon, was never taught that an onen may not eat from a standard korban ledorot. He was expected to in-fer it from maaser sheni, as Aharon did. His failure to properly use his deductive reasoning was more humiliating to him than simply forgetting a Halacha. Admitting to such a failure could po-tentially convince people that Moshe’s logic was faulty and lead them to consider his halachic decisions as unreliable. The Gemara is telling us that in spite of this concern, Moshe admitted his shortcomings and did not ascribe his error to forgetfulness. Moshe is not only our “Rabbeinu”, but our role model in leadership, in integrity and in humility. Shabbat Shalom.
