Perspective Unit Erin Schiltz  Drawing & Painting 1 Class periods: 15 (45 min) Objectives: 1. Students will be able to create a two point perspective of their surroundings. 2. Students will be able to demonstrate their knowledge of shading using several values. 3. Students will be able to create their own unique “unseen” element in their art. Materials: Pencils Colored Pencils 9 x 12 White Paper White board Dry erase marker Sketchbook Sample Art Procedural Steps: 1. I will ask the student’s to sit at their desks to start a new unit. 2. We will discuss with the students what they think of when they hear the word perspective. We will go over the “six rules of perspective” (overlapping, size, shading, placement, detail and color) and the vocabulary terms (perspective, vanishing point, horizon line and linear perspective). 3. They will then watch the video on perspective "The Art of Renaissance Science: Galileo and Perspective" (Part 1) 4. The following class we will continue with the "The Art of Renaissance Science: Galileo and Perspective" (Part 2). 5. The succeeding class I will demonstrate on the whiteboard how to create an aerial view one point perspective. 6. The students will then work in their sketchbook creating their own city aerial view. 7. On the following days they will have time in class to finish their city aerial view.

Perspective Unit

Erin Schiltz – Drawing & Painting 1

Class periods: 15 (45 min)

Objectives: 1. Students will be able to create a two point perspective of their surroundings.

2. Students will be able to demonstrate their knowledge of shading using several

values.

3. Students will be able to create their own unique “unseen” element in their art.

Materials: Pencils Colored Pencils 9 x 12 White Paper

White board Dry erase marker Sketchbook

Sample Art

Procedural Steps:

1.  I will ask the student’s to sit at their desks to start a new unit.

2.  We will discuss with the students what they think of when they hear the word

perspective. We will go over the “six rules of perspective” (overlapping, size, shading,

placement, detail and color) and the vocabulary terms (perspective, vanishing point,

horizon line and linear perspective).

3.  They will then watch the video on perspective "The Art of Renaissance Science: Galileo

and Perspective" (Part 1)

4.  The following class we will continue with the "The Art of Renaissance Science: Galileo

and Perspective" (Part 2).

5.  The succeeding class I will demonstrate on the whiteboard how to create an aerial view

one point perspective.

6.  The students will then work in their sketchbook creating their own city aerial view.

7.  On the following days they will have time in class to finish their city aerial view.

8.  In the next class, I will review the rules and terms of perspective, while demonstrating

two point perspective on the white board using drawn blocks. I will have the students

gather around my desk to show how to create value with colored pencils in their blocks.

9.  The students will then create a two point perspective block drawing with colored pencils

in their sketchbooks. They will need to show at least ten blocks of different sizes while

following the rules of perspective.

10. During the rest of the week they will have studio time to finish their colored blocks.

11. When they have this completed they may do free time art.

12. On the next Monday, I will explain the final perspective drawing to the students using

perspective. The students will take their final 9x12 paper into the hallway to replicate

their surroundings. They will need to find the vanishing point or points and then draw the

corners, stairs, etc.

13. Before the students start shading they will need to add a creative “unseen” element to

their drawing. They need to use their imagination to draw an element in a corner of their

paper that would not normal be there. This creative element will be in colored pencil incontrast to the black and white hallway.

14. Students will have the remainder of the week to finish their final project and any

unfinished perspective drawings.
