Notes from my in class instruction: 9/18/12 Personal Mission Statement - How To Write It: I. Please list your priorities in your life:- What is a challenge? What do you do for fun? How do you want to collaborate with others? II. Please list what gives you joy in your life:- Who is important to you? What do you do to calm your being? How do you feel when you are happy? What are your triggers to being happy? III. Please list what direction you want to go in your life: - What type of person do you want to be? What do you want others to say about you? What would you like your 2nd sentence to be? (Context: I described to kids that how they are seen by the rest of the world is the second sentence - ex: Two people talking, as you walk up and say "hi". After you walk away, one person says to the other, "Who was that guy?" "Ken" "Ken who?" "You know, Ken, the guy helps kids at Bowditch Middle School." (This is the second sentence.) IV. Please list why and what you want to go give to others in your life: How do you want to elevate and challenge yourself? How do you want to pursue excellence? After this kids did a quasi - Mad Lib fill in the blank to make their Personal Mission Statement. Ex: from Ken: Priorities: Downtime, collaboration, community building, exercise Joy: Not arguing over small stuff, friends, not wasting time - being productive, breathing, time, patience Direction: a person who cares about the "other", thinking beyond himself, being a producer not a consumer, creative Give: live values of inclusion Personal Mission Statement: I, Ken Klieman, will exemplify thinking beyond myself through teaching by pursuing inclusion, helping others

Personal Mission Statement: I, Ken Klieman, will exemplify thinking beyond myself through teaching by pursuing inclusion, helping others elevate their lives and being a producer not a consumer.  I will do this by breathing, modeling the patience I want out of others, being inclusive of "the other", valuing down-time and not arguing over small stuff.

This is a rough first draft, but this is what I came up on the fly.  Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
