PERSONAL EFFECTIVENESS

Personal effectiveness means making the most at all personal resources at our disposal - our personal talents, energy and time relative to what's most important to us. It is a branch of the self-help movement dealing with success, goals, and related concepts.

According to Mitch McCrimmon, Ph. D., personally effective people are thus more than just people who get what they want. They really have two qualities: They make good use of their resources and they are skilled at achieving their goals.

Many books have been published which talk about personal effectiveness. Some of these are the following: Super Self: Doubling Your Personal Effectiveness by Charles J. Givens, Personal Effectiveness by Alexander Murdock, The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey, Feel the Fear and Do It Anyways by Susan Jeffers, and many others.

BenefitsPersonal effectiveness boosts your confidence. Personal effectiveness is an important quality of leadership. Personal effectiveness helps you to achieve your goals. Personal effectiveness improves socialization.

How To Be Personally EffectiveThere are seven ways to improve personal effectiveness taken from Stephen Coveys book entitled 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.

Step 1Be Proactive. People need to control the environment, rather than have it control them. This means exercising self determination and choice.

Step 2Begin With the End in Mind. Personal leadership, which involves leading towards established aims. Develop the habit of concentrating on relevant activities.

Step 3Put First Things First. Personal management, organising and implementing activities in line with personal aims.

Step 4Think Win-Win A win-win attitude is based on the assumption that theres plenty for everyone, and that success follows a co-operative approach. \

Step 5Seek First to Understand and Then to be Understood Finding the problem before proposing the cure can be simple and effective.

Step 6Synergise for Productivity Harness the power of creative co-operation. The principle here is that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

Step 7Sharpen the Saw Self renewal, which surrounds all the other habits, enables and encourages them to happen and grow.
