Abraham-Louis Perrelet develops the

first pedometer and also becomes the

first to make with escapements and of

the duplex, date and equation of time

type. He further improves the going

train and improves the pinions, wheels,

the escapement and his unique wind-

ing mechanism.

His growing interest in the fields of as-

tronomy, physics and science lead Louis-

Frédéric Perrelet to design so-called

“scholarly” clocks. An astronomical clock

developed in 1815 and presented at the

World’s Fair in Paris in 1823 sets the seal

on his status as watchmaker-engineer to

three kings of France.

From the 1770s onwards, he begins try-

ing to develop a system that can pick

up an initial impulse and keep it running

indefinitely. In 1777 he gives concrete

shape to a totally revolutionary inven-

tion: the automatic movement. To date,

no better way has ever been found of

giving life to mechanical calibers and

his invention is still making its mark on

watchmaking history.

Birth of Louis-Frédéric Perrelet who has

inherited his grandfather’s horological

genius. Displaying a clear-cut predispo-

sition for mechanics and mathematics,

he is trained by his grandfather before

settling in Paris and studying in the

Breguet workshops. His talents enable

him to rapidly distinguish himself as an

independent horologist.

On the occasion of the French Industrial

Exposition, he presented an excep-

tional split-second physics and astron-

omy counter. This model, for which he

was granted an official patent in March

1828, earned him a medal from the

French Academy of Science in 1830.

Birth of Abraham-Louis Perrelet in the

tow of Le Locle in the Neuchâtel moun-

tain region of Switzerland. Passionately

interested in watchmaking skills, he

devotes himself from his adolescence

onward to building a certain number

of precision instruments. His impressive

mastery of his art, his acknowledged

competence and his creative genius

are to make him one of the greatest

ever exponents of the art of horology.

Representing notable proof of his

European-wide reputation, his talent

and his perseverance, and in addi-

tion to his many gold medals, Louis-

Frédéric was awarded the French title

of Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur.

The House of Perrelet develops, fine-

tunes and produces the first so-called

“Double Rotor” automatic caliber – a

unique system that connects the oscil-

lating weight of the automatic winding

system with a rotor on the dial side. The

Dipteros model thus represents an im-

portant step towards the Brand’s future

and heralds a number of original and

exclusive developments.

Perrelet is acquired by Miguel

Rodriguez, owner and sole share-

holder, marking the start of the brand’s

renewal. The brand-new collection, re-

vamped and reoriented under the ae-

gis of Miguel Rodriguez, is presented

at Baselworld 2005.

Perrelet presents a model that is soon

to become a truly iconic timepiece: the

Turbine. Once again based on the so-

called “Double Rotor” movement, the

oscillating weight on the dial side takes

the shape of a propeller rotating at ex-

tremely high speed. The Turbine thus

paves the way for a range of unique

and authentic artistic and horological

creations.

The Brand continues innovating and

inventing by presenting the Peripheral

Double Rotor that embodies the evolu-

tion of the double rotor concept that

shifts from the center to the periph-

ery. Above all, this model is the first

equipped with the entirely in-house

manufactured Caliber P-321.

Perrelet presents the Turbine Chrono,

once again demonstrating its creativ-

ity by proving capable of combining

the Turbine effect with a horological

complication. Hot on its heels, Perrelet

also launches its Turbillon model rep-

resenting a clever association of the

Turbine with a Tourbillon caliber pro-

duced in its own workshops. Through

these two major new releases, Perrelet

demonstrates its horological expertise

and its ability to continually reinvent his

“Turbine” concept.

Perrelet’s watches add to the prestige of fine watchmaking with models that are eminently true to the company’s history and identity. The authenticity of the brand is evidenced by the standard features mentioned below :

Embodying the singular nature of Perrelet, inventor of the automatic movement, the patented Double Rotor gives a starring role to the ingenious winding system. The traditional rotor is complemented by another rotor that is permanently visible, either in the center or around the periphery of the dial, depending on the model. This per-fectly synchronized pair ensures enhanced performance and enables the wearer to admire or keep track of the steady to-and-fro oscilla-tions.

DOUBLE ROTOR

Since 2009, the Perrelet Double Rotor has been interpreted in a new way with the upper rotor replaced by a large 12-blade wheel that turns freely over the entire dial surface, in step with wrist movements. The Turbine collection plays with a wide range of colors and motifs appearing as a backdrop and creating fascinating optical effects. Visual pleasure is the chief priority. Over the years, the Turbine has become an authentic brand icon and has evolved considerably. In 2013, horological complications such as the chronograph and the tourbillon have been added. An important step has thus been taken, paving the way for promising further developments.

PERRELET – AESTHETIC CODES

Fluting is a traditional watchmaking pattern that has been given a contemporary twist. The square-section hollows form cleanly struc-tured pilasters on the case middles. While generally fairly closely spaced on classic watches, they are broadened and even raised on the daring Turbine models. This pattern is picked up on certain crowns to ensure an enhanced grip.

INTERNATIONAL WARRANTY

As parts serving to secure the wristband, the lugs play a considerable role in defining the Perrelet style. They are generously sized and stand out from the case in order to accentuate their presence. Their crisply cut angles assert their contemporary nature, and their broad curves ensure optimal comfort on the wrist.

LUGS

As the fundamental element of the automatic movement, the lower rotor of the more classic Perrelet calibers exercises its winding func-tion in an entirely transparent way. It is openworked and enriched by the recognizable logo of the brand to offer a broader view of the finishing of the movement.

CUT OUT ROTOR

Every wristwatch produced by Perrelet comes with an international warranty certificate. Perrelet provides a warranty of 3 years on material defects and workmanship, valid from the date of purchase.

Since 2009, the Double Rotor has been given a fresh interpre-tation, with the upper rotor being replaced by a large titanium 12-blade wheel inspired by a gas turbine. The Turbine covers the entire surface, while its rotation is entirely free and has no effect on the automatic winding. The focus is firmly placed on aesthetic appeal and the watches in the Turbine genre offer a wealth of delightful visual effects.

This is the daintiest of the Turbine models. The steel case of the XXS version features a 38 mm diameter representing an extremely feminine, discreet and graceful expression of a highly fashionable trend. Like its larger counterparts, the Turbine XXS radiates the fascination of a watch revealing the sparkling fire of the diamonds adorning the under-dial in step with the move-ment of the turbine. The watches in the collection are fitted with rubber straps and are available in an all-white version or in total-black with a PVD-coated case.

The inspiration comes from the sea and from its color schemes. This new collection reinterprets the Turbine Diver model for sailing fans and seabed explorers. The Turbine Yacht collection features watches suitable to depths of 30 ATM with a wind rose rotating ring allowing the orientation. The upper rotor, evoking a subma-rine propeller, rotates above an entirely luminescent dial that shines in the darkness with a truly fascinating glow. For the first time since its launch in 2009, Perrelet’s iconic Turbine collection welcomes a horological complication; a chronograph, offering a further demonstration of the brand’s technical exper-tise. The additional function is clearly displayed on the dial of the Turbine Chrono automatic model without detracting from the singular identity of the collection. The chronograph measure-ments are provided by a central seconds chronograph hand and a particularly innovative 60-minute counter. A graduated mobile disk turns in the center of a fixed ring marked with a red arrow bearing the inscription “min” and pointing to the recorded times.

At the heart of the 36.50 mm-diameter New Diamond Flower, the creation sweeps over a dial stamped with a sunburst motif and bearing four Roman numerals and six petal hour-markers, of which three are set with diamonds. The dials and the alligator leather come in matching white, black, brown or bright red colors. Certain particularly sophisticated versions feature a diamond-set bezel or a rose gold 4N case.
