Chaplain Burns, one of 2,400 Air Force Reservists of the 514th who fly or support three groups of C-119 “Plying Boxcars,” will be released from active duty, Sunday, August 7th. “Port and Starboard” Fashion Show is coming August 24th. Miss Annette Grigonis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Antone Grigonis has been named to the Dean’s List at State Uni- versity College at Oneonta, N. Y. for the Spring semester. Miss Grigonis, who was a graduate of Southold High School, class of ’65, will be a sophomore in the Fall. Mrs. Lillian Kummert of Hobart Road .spent the past week visiting with friends in Vermont. Miss Helen Booth of New York City spent last week with her brother and sister-in-law,, Mr. and Mrs. Clement W. Booth at their home on Mt. Beulah Avenue. Dr. and Mrs. Keith Sherman and children left last Friday for their home in Ames, Iowa after residing in South- old for the past year. Dr. Sherman was at the Animal Disease Laboratory at Plum Island during the year. On July 30th, Mr. Walter J. Cowan, Sr. celebrated his 78th birthday at his home at Laughing Water with his daughter. Miss Lillian Cowan. Mrs. Helen Smith, another daughter, of Fort Lauderdale. Florida and his son, Walter Cowan, Jr. and his wife of Paoli, Pa. were alSo here for the celebration. Mr.s. Ralph J. Cech is nt the home of her daughter, Mrs. Veronica Felli, in Glenv.ood Landing recuperating from a recent illness. Their friends hope to see her and Mr. Cech at their home in Wesland soon. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Metzendorf and children, Mark, Linda, Kathy and Roy of Santee, S. C. are visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Metzen- dorf in Wesland. Mr. and Mrs. James Vachris of Wil- mington, Del. recently visited her par- ents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wall at the home of Charles V. Hickey in We.=- land where Mr. Wall ha,s been recuper- ating from a recent Illness. Mr. and Mrs. Donald F. Ritchie of Lynbrook, L. I. announce the arrival of their new son, Laurence Francis, on July 21st. Mrs. Ritchie is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles V. Hickey of Kew Gardens and Wesland. Little Laurence was christened on Saturday, July 30th, by Father Zachary Daly of Brazil, who is a cousin of Mrs. Ritchie. Mrs. Dwight Davis and children. Dee and Debbie and Mrs. Creech and daughter, Susan, left Saturday to re- turn to their home in Raleigh, N. C. after visiting Mrs. Davis’ mother, Mrs. Henry White and her grandmother, Mrs. Helen C. Ritchie. Mrs. Ritchie passed away on Thursday and Mrs. Davis and her mother attended the funeral in Jackson Heights. Others from Southold who attended the fun- eral were Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Smith, Mr. Charles Essman, Mr. William La- Velle, and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Gagen. Mr. and Mrs. James Phillips of Douglaston spent the long weekend at their home in Wesland. On Sunday they entertained a number of friends from the Douglaston Yacht Club who were in the vicinity on their yachts. Miss Elmira Babcock of Hempstead is spending some time with Mrs. Henry White at her home in Wesland. One of our subscribers tells us about an angora cat up a tall tree with a collar and leash while her young mis- tress was trying to coax her down. Since the Fire Department can no longer rescue cats that climb too high (no Insurance to cover these deeds) she really was in distress, but thanks to Gary Knoblock of Soimdview Ave- nue who happened along and climbed the tree to bring the frightened cat to safety, all ended well. Allan Beebe, 8 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Allan Beebe of Alton Park, 111. recently pitched a no-hltter game in the Little League in his home town in Alton Park but still lost the game 1-0. The opposing pitcher gave up only one hit and fanned 16, while Beebe fanned 15. Guests of Miss Betty Ann Hager- man last Sunday were Mr. Michael Husar of Brooklyn and Miss Ann Buk- snaitis of Ozone Park. Patrick Kelly underwent an operation at the Eastern Long Island Hospital on Monday of this week. We wish him a quick recovery. But most of all he must be praised as the director—for his perfect casting and Interpretation of the play. Rodolpho, Catherine’s love, played by Kenny Shi'uell could have been a little more significant to the story. However, he maintains Rodolpho as a light- hearted kid who changes into the man of Catherine’s love. This reviewer feels that he will improve with the run of the play. The two minor roles played by Matthew Mogavero and Samuel Zap were entirely professional. The producers of the playhouse must be given a great deal of credit for their choice of plays and for their desire to give to this area theater of such a high quality. The Loyalty Club enjoyed a delicious covered dish supper a t the home of Mrs. Betty Jane Copln on July 27th. Canasta was also enjoyed.

On Sunday the Staples enjoyed a “Cook O ut” celebrat­ing the birthday of Mr. Halsey Staples. Attending were the S tuart Staples' family of Bay Shore, Mrs. Leo Gelinas and niece. Clair. Rodolpho, Catherine’s love, played by Kenny Shi'uell could have been a little more significant to the story. However, he m aintains Rodolpho as a light­hearted kid who changes into the man of Catherine’s love. This reviewer feels th a t he will improve with the run of the play. The two minor roles played by Matthew Mogavero and Samuel Zap were entirely professional.

The producers of the playhouse must be given a great deal of credit for their choice of plays and for their desire to give to this area theater of such a high quality.
