Mr. and Mrs. Fred Cardinal and four children of Big Bear Lake, California are visiting witli his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Cardinal, Sr. for the m onth of August.
Rev. Ben Burns, pastor of the South- old Methodist Church, is serving a two-week tour of active duty as chaplain for the 514th Troop Carrier Wing (Reserve) a t McGuire APB, N. J. Chaplain Burns, one of 2,400 Air Force Reservists of the 514th who fly or support three groups of C-119 “Plying Boxcars,” will be released from active duty, Sunday, August 7th.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Jennings have been entertaining their daughter, Mrs. William Lower, their granddaughter and her husband. Mi-, and Mrs. Louis Heitz and their great granddaughter, Deborah Heitz, all of Utica, N. Y. They stayed a t Mrs. Florence Moffat’s apai’t- ment on Boisseau Avenue during their visit in Southold.
Capt. and Mrs. Ted Dowd and four children visited with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. David Dowd a t their home at Goose Bay Estates. They left on Tuesday for Prattville, Alabama.

Master Bruce Kavan, son of Sgt. and Mrs. A. C. Kavan of W esthampton Beach visited with his aunt, Miss Adele Payne, last week end, while his sisters, Barbara and Alana, were a t the M ethodist Camp a t Shelter Island.
Mrs. Daisy Myers and daughter, Carolmae, returned home last Wednesday from a 19 day motor trip to the Smokies then down the west coast to Miami, Florida. They returned home on the East coast and visited many places of interest all along the way.
Congratulations to Steve J. Doroski, who celebrated his 50th birthday on August 3rd. We wish him another half- century In Southold.

on North Parish Drive last Thursday, after spending six weeks a t the E astern Long Island Hospital. Fifteen of his relatives and friends welcomed him home with an outdoor barbecue a t his home on Sunday.

Miss Annette Grigonis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Antone Grigonis has been named to the Dean’s List a t S tate University College a t Oneonta, N. Y. for the Spring semester. Miss Grigonis, who was a graduate of Southold High School, class of ’65, will be a sophomore in the Fall.

Miss Helen Booth of New York City spent last week with her brother and sister-in-law,, Mr. and Mrs. Clement W. Booth a t their home on Mt. Beulah Avenue.

On July 30th, Mr. W alter J. Cowan, Sr. celebrated his 78th birthday a t his home a t Laughing W ater with his daughter. Miss Lillian Cowan. Mrs. Helen Smith, another daughter, of Fort Lauderdale. Florida and his son, Walter Cowan, Jr. and his wife of Paoli, Pa. were alSo here for the celebration.
Mr.s. Ralph J. Cech is nt the home of her daughter, Mrs. Veronica Felli, in Glenv.ood Landing recuperating from a recent illness. Their friends hope to see her and Mr. Cech a t their home in Wesland soon.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Metzendorf and children, Mark, Linda, K athy and Roy of Santee, S. C. are visiting a t the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Metzendorf in Wesland.
Mr. and Mrs. Jam es Vachris of Wilmington, Del. recently visited her p arents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wall a t the home of Charles V. Hickey in We.=- land where Mr. Wall ha,s been recuperating from a recent Illness.
Mr. and Mrs. Donald F. Ritchie of Lynbrook, L. I. announce the arrival of their new son, Laurence Francis, on July 21st. Mrs. Ritchie is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles V. Hickey of Kew Gardens and Wesland. Little Laurence was christened on Saturday, July 30th, by Father Zachary Daly of Brazil, who is a cousin of Mrs. Ritchie.
Mrs. Dwight Davis and children. Dee and Debbie and Mrs. Creech and daughter, Susan, left Saturday to re tu rn to their home in Raleigh, N. C. after visiting Mrs. Davis’ mother, Mrs. Henry White and her grandmother, Mrs. Helen C. Ritchie. Mrs. Ritchie passed away on Thursday and Mrs. Davis and her mother attended the funeral in Jackson Heights. Others from Southold who attended the fun eral were Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Smith, Mr. Charles Essman, Mr. William La- Velle, and Mr. and Mrs. A rthur Gagen.
Mr. and Mrs. James Phillips of Douglaston spent the long weekend at their home in Wesland. On Sunday they entertained a number of friends from the Douglaston Yacht Club who were in the vicinity on their yachts.
Miss Elmira Babcock of Hempstead is spending some time with Mrs. Henry White a t her home in Wesland.
One of our subscribers tells us about an angora cat up a tall tree with a collar and leash while her young mistress was trying to coax her down. Since the Fire Departm ent can no longer rescue cats th a t climb too high (no Insurance to cover these deeds) she really was in distress, but thanks to Gary Knoblock of Soimdview Avenue who happened along and climbed the tree to bring the frightened cat to safety, all ended well.
Allan Beebe, 8 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Allan Beebe of Alton Park, 111. recently pitched a no-hltter game in the Little League in his home town in Alton Park but still lost the game 1-0. The opposing pitcher gave up only one h it and fanned 16, while Beebe fanned 15.
Guests of Miss Betty Ann Hager- m an last Sunday were Mr. Michael Husar of Brooklyn and Miss Ann Buk- snaitis of Ozone Park.
Patrick Kelly underwent an operation a t the Eastern Long Island Hospital on Monday of this week. We wish him a quick recovery.

Methodist Church have earned commendation for their tireless hours plan ning, cooking and serving the delicious Smorgasbord Supper held last S atu rday. About three hundred assembled at the festive board. Mrs. Cerble, president of the Society wishes to thank one and all who helped to make the affair the success th a t it was. Come to the Antique Show which starts on Wednesday, AugusJ 10 th ru Friday, August 12.
Miss Sheree Ann and Clay Harrell of Huntington are spending a week with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Harrell, Sr. of Bay Avenue.
Mrs. L. Hersh of Center Moriches enjoyed the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Harold Kilburne.

Mrs. Walter Smith of Islip visited her sister, Mrs. Fillmore Grifling this past week. Slie accompanied Mrs. Edith Wanda also of Islip, to Greenport. Mrs. Wanda was a guest of Mrs. Henry Bunce.
The Loyalty Club enjoyed a delicious covered dish supper a t the home of Mrs. Betty Jane Copln on July 27th. Canasta was also enjoyed.
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Cann of Had- denfleld. N, J. are spending this week with Mrs. Cann’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. S tuart Staples. On Sunday the Staples enjoyed a “Cook O ut” celebrating the birthday of Mr. Halsey Staples. Attending were the S tuart Staples' family of Bay Shore, Mrs. Leo Gelinas and niece. Clair. The Robert Staples’ family, Mr. and Mrs. F rank K lena- wicus and daughter, Susan of Shelter Island, the Gordon Cann family and Miss Janet Gladding. M aster S tuart Staples of Bay Shore remained with his grandparents for a week’s vacation.

the person of Marco perfectly. But most of all he must be praised as the director—for his perfect casting and Interpretation of the play.
Rodolpho, Catherine’s love, played by Kenny Shi'uell could have been a little more significant to the story. However, he m aintains Rodolpho as a lighthearted kid who changes into the man of Catherine’s love. This reviewer feels th a t he will improve with the run of the play. The two minor roles played by Matthew Mogavero and Samuel Zap were entirely professional.
The producers of the playhouse must be given a great deal of credit for their choice of plays and for their desire to give to this area theater of such a high quality.
