Law and Life Among the Ancient Hebrews The surviving literature of the ancient Hebrews is almost entirely concerned with religion. The selection of laws

presented below comes from the books of Exodus, Leviticus and Deuteronomy, which are parts of the Old Testament. Historians believe that the Old Testament was written down between 900 B.C.E. and 100 C.E. Although it is a religious

work, it contains a wealth of information about the secular lives of the Hebrews.

As you read the selections below, think about the following questions:

1. What are some of the ways in which the Hebrews made a living? 2. What do these laws reveal about the class structure of their society?

3. What do the Hebrew laws on weights and measures reveal about the extent of governmental control? 4. What differences do you see between these ancient laws and American laws today? What similarities?

The Old Testament Exodus Chapter 20 12. Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee

People by The Sea Travel Booklet Welcome to the Seal An exciting place where many great civilizations have grown and prospered. It is here that we find the Minoans, the Phoenicians and the Hebrews. These groups contributed many things to the world that helped to make it the place that it is today.

Your task: Create a travel booklet the highlights the accomplishments of these 3 civilizations

Requirements:

1) Each civilization has their own 2 page spread that includes:

a. Where/when civilization occurred

b. Three accomplishments of the civilization

c. Pictures (drawn, not printed from internet; 3 per civilization) that show what these accomplishments

were

2) One page must be set aside to explain the Jewish Religion. This must include:

a. Definition of Monotheism

b. Explanation of their two main contributors (people)

c. Overview of the religion
